If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #288 (1967) - Vicki - 'Well, listen, I know that you like to imagine scary things, and you have a very active imagination, but you MUSTN'T let it run away with you.'

From "#0287/0288: Robservations 12/17/01: Julia KNOWS!!!"
David enters the drawing room to find Vicki staring out the window, listening to the music box. When she tells him she was daydreaming,
he says he had an odd, frightened feeling she was someone else-someone strange.
Except for the part in which David says he felt that Vicki looked so strange, everything else in the Robservations summary actually happens in the teaser, but it was necessary to include it for context because of the way the summary is written. And in Act I what isn't summarized is that after David says Vicki looked strange, he says there was something scary about it, and Vicki replies with the quote to that remark...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #433 (1796) - Judge Hanley - 'Mr. Trask, the court has warned you repeatedly about your manner of questioning. The defendant MUST be regarded as innocent until proven guilty. You will bear that in mind.'

From "#0433/0434: Robservations 04/09/02: Dirty Deeds, Done Dirt Cheap"
Back in the courtroom, Trask calls Vicki to the stand. Peter brings up the "innocent until proven guilty" rule and reminds the judges about her right not to incriminate herself, but the judge assures him those rights will be protected. Trask goes at Vicki with a vengeance, asking her if she HATED Abigail for suspecting her of witchcraft--did she hate her enough to KILL her? Peter objects. Vicki denies wanting to see Abigail dead.
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but it sort of references its circumstances...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #572 (1968) - Julia - 'I believe that Nicholas Blair is involved. We MUST find out what that involvement is. We MUST find the vampire and destroy him. Or none of us will be safe.'

From "Robservations 7/23/02 - Joe & Maggie Finale? - #572/573"
Julia thinks it possible Blair made Tom a vampire. Barnabas disputes this--Nicholas is no vampire. Julia knows that, and a vampire exists close to them, but she feels Nicholas is involved, and they must learn what that involvement is. We must find and destroy that vampire, says Julia, or none of us will be safe!
The Robservations paraphrases a bit but gets all the quote's main points across...

And I always find it interesting how whenever there's a new vampire on DS and the identity of that vampire is unknown, everyone is guilty of reverse sexism in thinking that new vampire is male. Not always. And certainly not in this case.  [nodno]

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #1228 (1841PT[-1968/69]) - Melanie - 'Tell him, he MUST hear it!'

From "#1228/1229: Robservations 01/02/04: Daphne Faces the Truth"
You have seen the attacks Melanie is prone to, says Flora, she is also prone to hysteria.  Not true, says Melanie, I'm quite myself now, Mama, you know what I'm talking about, so tell him, please, Mama, for me!  Darling, says Flora, there is nothing to tell--I'm sure Mr. Young is distressed to see you so overwrought.  Tell him! cries Melanie, in despair, he must hear it.  Hear what? asks Kendrick.  That I killed Stella! cries Melanie.  Don't listen to her, says Flora, she doesn't know what she's saying!  Kendrick, shocked, stares at Melanie, who apologizes, near tears.
The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Flora - 'He IS Morgan, we MUST continue to think that') was back on February 12th of 2025, and the second (Bramwell - 'I MUST- I MUST go upstairs if you'll excuse me') was back on November 12th.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1841PT[-1968/69])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a The Werewolf-Quentin's Ghost ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from so a 1841PT quote was substituted.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #828 (1897) - Petofi - 'Whatever is going on in this house, Mr. Collins, I will not have it. She MUST stop immediately.'

From "Robservations 2/26/03 - Angelique Steps In - #828-829"
6 o'clock - Quentin paces the drawing room as the hour chimes.  Someone knocks at the door-- Petofi.  What are you doing here? he demands.  Petofi shoots the question right back at him--what are YOU doing here?--whatever is going on in this house, I will not have it--she must stop immediately.  She? asks Quentin.  Don't be a fool or think me one, insists Petofi--who but Angelique would make the dreadful error of tampering with my spells?
The Robservations references the entire quote almost perfectly...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #945 (1969) - Sky - 'The storm MUST have knocked out the electricity. It's happened before.'

From "Robservations 5/19/03 - #944-945"
Nothing is going right, says Sky--I'm sorry about the lights, too--the storm must have knocked out the electric--it's happened before; I'll have it fixed tomorrow. He looks out the window.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #735 (1897[-1970PT]) - Gregory - 'Don't you remember anything we taught you at Worthington Hall? MUST we teach you everything again?'

From "Robservations 11/20/02 - #734-735 - Jamison Escapes the Closet; Worthington Burns"
Trask wonders about Rachel's insolence, asking about Mrs. Collins this way!--must I tell you everyone I speak to each day?  I simply wondered if she had been here, says Rachel.  Why? asks Trask--is there a reason?  No, says Rachel, no reason.  You're lying, he accuses--have you learned that, too?--must we teach you everything again?  Rachel sees smoke coming from under the door--there's a fire.
The Robservations doesn't reference the entire quote, but the part it does, it does so well...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Laura - 'You MUST do as I tell you, darling') was back on August 16th of 2022, and the second (Gregory - 'What kind of insolence is this?! MUST I tell you everyone I speak to each day?'), obviously also from this scene, was back on February 2nd of 2024.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1897[-1970PT])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a 1970PT ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from so an 1897 quote was substituted.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
1991 DS Ep #6 (-1970) - Maggie - 'Sara, we need your help. You MUST tell us of the evil that has descended upon this house.'

From SHADOWS IN THE '90s: The Dark Shadows Concordance 1991 - PLOT SUMMARIES - EPISODE SIX:
COLLINWOOD:  Victoria gives Maggie the family his-
tory book.  Sara's portrait is already in place.  Maggie approves
- familiar objects help when trying to attract a spirit.  Roger
would prefer they conjure up someone he'd really like to talk
to - say, Abraham Lincoln.  Elizabeth protests his frivolity.
Maggie directs them to place their hands in an unbroken
circle.  Carolyn doesn't until Barnabas directs her with a
glance.  Roger asks, how will Sara contact them?  Will they see
her?  Maggie explains that physical appearances are quite rare
- they may hear a voice, or there may be some other sign.  She
stresses the importance of keeping from negative thoughts -
they may frighten Sara away.  Roger protests, he's all in favor
of this - it should be a fascinating experience.  Elizabeth sug-
gests they begin.  Maggie, "We are gathered here in an attempt
to contact another world.  Our purpose is to speak to one who
has appeared to some of us at this table, and who has at-
tempted to warn us of the great dangers that surround all
those who live in this house called Collinwood.  Sara... Sara
Collins, please speak to us...  Please warn those you believe to
be in danger.  Help us to understand what forces are here to
destroy those who live in this house..."  She continues to plead
with Sara to respond.  Lightning flashes and thunder roars.
Victoria's eyes close and she whispers, "Yes..."  Maggie starts,
then warns everyone not to move - "We cannot break this
circle.  Are you Sara Collins?"  Victoria replies, yes.  Maggie
again asks her help - tell them of the evil.  Victoria, "Evil. Yes,
there is evil.  Everyone at Collinwood will die unless..."  Maggie
begs her to explain.  "Someone must come. Someone must try -
to change things!  To make them - different!"  A violent flash of
lightning explodes and thunder strikes.  The lights go out. Vic-
toria screams. A wind whips through the room.  When the
lights are turned back on, everyone gapes in astonishment at
the battered blonde woman wearing 18th century dress who
sits at the table in Victoria's place.  She stares at them in ab-
solute terror, then collapses.  Elizabeth, "My God, what have
we done?  Where's Victoria?"

And the summary doesn't directly reference the entire quote but does share a part of it as well as convey the circumstances under which it occurs...

And as I will do eventually once I get access to it, I'll use a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- however, I don't have access to it at the moment and because for some odd reason YouTube, which has copies of all the other TGG eps, doesn't have a copy of Ep #6, so I couldn't get a screen capture from there. But anyway, even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release (which I also don't have access to at the moment) does -

- also like the VHS release, it has the correct aspect ratio, plus it even tends to show a bit more of the frame and it's clearer than the VHS.

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen notations like "DS 1991 Ep #6 (-1970)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from the 1995-Gerard and Daphne-Summer of '70 storyline but that one doesn't have any more eps that haven't been quoted from.

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Carolyn - 'I can't believe you're sitting around taking this seriously. You MUST all be crazy') was back on February 1st of 2025, and the second (Elizabeth - 'MUST we, George?'), also from that same scene, was back on February 2nd.

(And there will be many more eps coming up without "must" lines...)

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #509 (1968[-1840/41]) - Cassandra - 'You MUST. Look into my eyes and tell me that you will.'

From "Robservations 6/6/02 - #509/510 - Adam's New Friend/Taken to Trask"
He pulls out his lighter and holds it up. She chides him for never remembering about the cigarette lighter. The moment he looks into the flame, she does what he asks. Tony sinks to his knees and lights her cigarette. (Implications!) She has an important matter for him to attend to and needs his help.
He agrees to help her. Professor Stokes, a very interfering man, is his target, and all will be very easy-Tony is going to pay him a visit. Coming out of his trance, Tony says, tensely, "I won't go!" "You must," she tells him--look into my eyes and tell me you will. Tony fears Stokes will know why he's there. Cassandra hands him what looks like a cross with a circle on top of it, and she tells him it's the key that will open Stokes' door for Tony tonight.
The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Tony - 'You know it MUST be old. Otherwise how would it have gotten under the floor?') was back on November 30th of 2023.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1968[-1840/41])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from an 1840/41 ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from so a 1968 quote was substituted.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #810 (1897[-1841PT]) - Aristede - 'There MUST be nothing to make him suspect that things have changed since he left last night.'

From "Robservations 2/13/03 - #809-810 - A Mother Comes to Help"
Aristede admires himself in the mirror, fiddling with his hair. Magda sarcastically asks, did you send for me so there would be two of us to admire you? Be quiet, he orders--tonight, when Barnabas rises from his resting place, you are to do nothing--make sure you are the perfect servant, loyal friend and trusty confidant--he must suspect nothing has changed since he left last night. Of course I will say nothing, says Magda, but Barnabas isn't easy to fool. Use every ounce of your gypsy cunning, he advises, if you want to stay alive.
The Robservations paraphrases but gets the point across...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Mrs. Fillmore - 'You MUST come at once. It's Lenore') was back on October 27th of 2025, and the second (Quentin - 'The pendant may work. It MUST') was back on January 17th.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1897[-1841PT])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from an 1841PT ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from so an 1897 quote was substituted.
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #626 (1968[-1840/41]) - Vicki - 'How frightened he MUST be, how hurt to make a decision like that.'

From "Robservations 8/29/02 - #626/627 - Murder!"
There's a knock at the door, it's Liz. She comes in with Roger. Vicki asks about Jeff. Roger explains that he left him at the cemetery. At Peter's grave, guesses Vicki. Roger tells her I advised Jeff against coming back--what good would it do? They arrived at the decision mutually, says Roger. That he agreed not to come--how frightened and hurt he must be, says Vicki--I want to see him. Liz says she can't help him now.
The Robservations paraphrases but gets the points across...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Vicki - 'I MUST'), also from this scene, was back on August 31st of 2024.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1968[-1840/41])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from an 1840/41 ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from so a Vicki/Jeff-Cassandra/The Dream Curse-Adam/Eve/Nicholas quote was substituted.
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #760 (1897[-1970PT]) - Laura's Voice - 'We MUST make sure that no one tries to stop us from leaving. I want to be alone with you.'

From "Robservations 1/9/03 - #760-761 - Died By Fire"
Nora begs, I want to see you!  Soon, promises Laura, I must be alone with you--Jamison, go to the door and bolt it from the inside.
The Robservations paraphrases, though it gets the main point across...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Barnabas - 'There MUST be no fire or flame in the house this evening. All fireplaces, oil lamps, candles and stoves MUST be extinguished') was back on March 29th of 2024, and the second (Laura's Voice - 'You MUST NOT be frightened. No matter what happens, you MUST be very brave'), which is also from this same scene, was back on February 14th.
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #951 (1970) - Nelle - 'Now, take me to the shop, I MUST see him.'

From "Robservations 5/22/03 - #950-951"
Once you open the sacred box and become a true Leviathan, says Barn, our leader will make all kinds of demands on your obedience--you will be required to steal. I won't be scared, vows Nelle. To go against your own friends, continues Barnabas--even to kill. Even that, says Nelle--now take me to the shop, I must see him. He isn't at the shop, says Barnabas, preventing her from getting up, but I do know where he is--come with me--I have to meet him myself.  I prefer meeting him with a gentleman like you than Bruno
The Robservations references the quote perfectly...
