If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
DS 1991 Ep #6 (-1966/67) - Elizabeth - 'MUST we, George?'

From SHADOWS IN THE '90s: The Dark Shadows Concordance 1991 - PLOT SUMMARIES - EPISODE SIX:
DRAWING ROOM: The party guests have left. Maggie
has brought out a ouija board. Roger, Elizabeth, Joe, Carolyn,
Julia and George Patterson watch with interest as Maggie ex-
plains the workings of the ouija board. Barnabas joins them as
Maggie and Roger begin working the board. Roger's question:
"Will the State of Maine ever secede from the Union and name
Collinsport as its capitol?" The board gives a decisive "No."
Roger is mock-crushed. Maggie suggests someone ask a "real
question". Sheriff Patterson asks if the person responsible for
the "troubles" in Collinsport is still around. Julia gives Bar-
nabas a nervous look. Elizabeth is disturbed that he's bringing
up these memories. Barnabas and Carolyn trade glances. Mag-
gie closes her eyes. The board answers "Yes". Elizabeth accuses
Roger of moving the planchette. Patterson: "Is it someone we
know?" The planchette doesn't move. Roger suggests they ask
it for a name. Patterson, "What letter does the killer's name
begin with?" The planchette moves around and finally chooses
"C". Roger observes, "There are a lot of 'C's' in the room. I
wonder if it means a first name, or last?" Patterson asks if "C"
stands for a last name. It answers yes. Roger, "I have an alibi."
Elizabeth warns them to stop, but Roger refuses, calling the
suspense "excruciating". Roger offers: "O great mystical board,
answer this next question: Which letter does the first name
begin with?" The planchette moves, circling around the board.
Barnabas glances at Carolyn. Julia notices the interchange be-
tween them. Carolyn suddenly hurls herself at the board,
knocking it to the ground, shouting this is all stupid. Elizabeth
takes her to task for her "wild behavior". Carolyn flares
they're all crazy and storms out. Roger comments, "Sorry,
George, you almost had your killer," declares the party over
and leaves. Barnabas and Julia trade glares.

And the summary doesn't directly reference the quote but does convey the circumstances under which it occurs...

And as I will do eventually once I get access to it, I'll use a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- however, I don't have access to it at the moment and because for some odd reason YouTube, which has copies of all the other TGG eps, doesn't have a copy of Ep #6, so I couldn't get a screen capture from there. But anyway, even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release (which I also don't have access to at the moment) does -

- also like the VHS release, it has the correct aspect ratio, plus it even tends to show a bit more of the frame and it's clearer than the VHS.

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen notations like "DS 1991 Ep #6 (-1966/67)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from 1966/67's storyline but that one doesn't have any more eps that haven't been quoted from.

And this is the second quote from this ep and also this scene. The first (Carolyn - 'I can't believe you're sitting around taking this seriously. You MUST all be crazy') was back on February 1st of 2025.

(And unlike in my other months, I've been so busy with other stuff that I haven't already picked out all the eps for February, so at this point I have no idea just how many eps will be coming up without "must" lines. Though I do know that there will be many more...)

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #284 (1967) - Maggie - 'Yes, I MUST hide.'

From "#0283/0284: Robservations 12/13/01: Julia Gets a Glimmer"
In Woodard's office, Julia puts Maggie under hypnosis, questioning her about Sarah. Julia reminds her of what happened at the cemetery; when she speaks the name "Collins," Maggie is terrified.
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all. And even the AOL Update for Ep #284 -

Quote from: DrJuliaH
Julia shines her penlight into Maggie's eyes, and asks her who is Sarah Collins.  No response.  Who's the girl who gave her the doll?  Sarah.  What's her last name?  No response.  Julia asks why Maggie was frightened, and Maggie cries "Don't hurt me!"  Julia asks what's the name of the person who would hurt her... is it Collins?  Maggie cries, "No! No! No!!!"

- for when it was aired as the second ep on October 17th of 1995 doesn't bring it up either. However, it comes up during the part of the scene in which Julia brings up what happened during the trip to the cemetery...

I found it amusing how two of today’s quotes were almost identical.

Barnabas - 'It will work, Willie, because it MUST.'

Julia - 'Yes, we can, Willie. We can, because we MUST.'

Oops - I forgot to highlight those so that people who might have missed them could see them:

2023:

Ep #485 (1968) - Barnabas - 'It will work, Willie,
because it MUST.'

2025:

Ep #536 (1968) - Julia - 'Yes, we can, Willie. We can,
because we MUST.'
Today's quote:
Ep #431 (1796) - Abigail - 'You MUST think I have a very short memory to trust you when you were the servant of the witch who was trying to destroy us.'

From "#0431/0432: Robservations 04/08/02: Abigail Meets Her Dead Nephew"
Abigail catches Ben leaving the Old House, and they get into a bit of an argument when she says she's going in and orders him back to Collinwood. She reminds him he was the witch's assistant, and when he tries to tell her the house is haunted, she pooh-poohs that--Reverend Trask, who is meeting her there, exorcised this house himself!
When he can't talk her out of going in (she says she'll be responsible for whatever happens to her), and she dismisses him as still being in league with the witch, Ben mutters that he hopes she gets what she deserves.
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does it circumstances...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #562 (1968) - Nicholas - 'If your friend is to be summoned, you MUST do the summoning. He will hear you.'

From "Robservations 7/16/02 - Joe Helps Ang "Get" Tom - #562/563"
#562

The Robservations for Ep #562 doesn't summarize the teaser, which is a restaging of the ending of Ep #561. So, here's an excerpt of how things play at the end of Ep #561:

From "Robservations 7/15/02 - #560/561 - Ang Seduces Her New Victim"
Angelique rises, hungry, and Nicholas tells her he's been expecting her. Where is Joe, she asks, and Nick tells her that SHE must summon Joe if she wants him-he'll hear her--he needs her as much as she needs him. Angelique looks out the windows, parts the curtains, and calls Joe to come to her. "Come to me," she wheedles. Joe looks at his reflection in the mirror, ordering himself to resist her. He's warring fiercely with himself, wanting to go and not wanting to just as much. Angelique continues to call her victim, telling him she needs him now. "You need me. You want me. Come. . .come to me."
Joe struggles, then realizes he does need and want her-he can't resist her any longer, he can't! He leaves his room. Angelique is smiling. "You know how to find me," she says, "come as quickly as you can. You will be drawn to this house, irresistibly drawn, through the forest to the house by the sea."
The Robservations paraphrases the quote a bit but gets its points across, however, the lines are actually worded somewhat differently in Ep #561 than they are in Ep #562, so that means Ep #561's version could also be quoted in the slideshow one day...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #1202 (1841PT[-1968/69]) - Catherine - 'How can I make you understand? I revealed my feelings for you, but you MUST also accept the fact that I also love Morgan.'

From "#1201/1202: Robservations 12/10/03: Impassioned Lovers"
Catherine lies on the brass bed, watching her own hand wandering lazily, happily, between the bars...  She is sated, a woman who has just been made love to and enjoyed every second of it.  Bramwell sits on the trunk at the foot of the bed, putting on his clothes.  Are you angry with me? he asks, subdued.  (for what?--the lovemaking or kidnappingr?)  She reaches out and slips her hand into his.  I have no reason to be angry with you, she says languidly--you wanted to prove something to me, and you have proven it--but it doesn't make any difference
--she rises from the bed--how can I make you understand?--I've revealed my feelings for you, but you must also accept the fact that I also love Morgan.  He rises--that isn't possible, he insists, and you know it.  It is possible, I do love him, she says--and I still plan to marry Morgan for all the reasons I outlined to you before--I know the kind of life I want, and know I can never find it with you--yet I will find it with him--it's as simple as that and you must accept it!  Bramwell, devastated, confused, just looks at her.
The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Quentin - 'Her carriage is still by the front gate. Then that MUST mean she's still on the estate') was back on July 28th of 2023.

And what "(1841PT[-1968/69])" means is that what really should have been featured is a quote from the 1968/69 storyline, The Werewolf-Quentin's Ghost, but a quote from 1841PT was substituted because there are no longer any unquoted eps in the storyline.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #818 (1897) - Beth - 'But I MUST go to him when he calls me. He is my master.'

From "Robservations #817-818"
#818

The Robservations for Ep #818 doesn't summarize the teaser, which is a restaging of the ending of Ep #817. So, here's an excerpt of how things play at the end of Ep #817:

From "Robservations #817-818"
go to him.  She walks slowly toward the adjoining room.  This is the very last time that you will go to him, promises Petofi.  But I must go to him whenever he calls me, protests Beth--he is my master!  He WAS your master, says Petofi, but no longer--turn your back on him, or you will die and spend eternity as a vampire.  Miserably, Beth turns her back and leaves the room.
As the Robservations except from Ep #817 shows, the quote originally uses "whenever" rather than "when," but the rest is the same - and the difference also means that the original version could possibly show up in a future slideshow...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #941 (1970) - Liz - 'My imagination. I MUST be more upset than I realize.'

From "Robservations 5/15/03 - #940-941 - Carolyn Whisked Away; Maggie in Danger"
Drawing room - There's no need to thank me, Quentin assures Liz. Did you simply find Carolyn on the floor of the shop asks Liz. Yes, he replies. I don't understand, says Liz.  She glances out the window, then gasps--I thought I saw someone standing at the edge of the woods!  Quentin checks, but reports, no one is there now. If it's my imagination, says Liz, I must be more upset than I realized--I'll have Mrs. Johnson bring you some coffee--or would you prefer brandy?   Coffee, says Quentin, smirking. (COFFEE?)
Not only is it shocking that it's coffee rather than brandy, but it's really shocking that Liz, of all people, didn't suggest tea!!  [snow_shocked]

And the Robservations paraphrases the actual quote but gets all the points across...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #1038 (1970PT) - Timothy Stokes - 'You MUST understand that in experiments like this, we are dealing with the completely unknown.'

From "#1038/1039: Robservations 07/28/03: The Redhead With the Grand Tetons"
He answers the knock at his door.  Knocking? he asks Julia, surprised--how formal you've become, especially since I was expecting you--Angelique has fainted, I suppose. Yes, says Julia. And she blames me, of course, he says, taking a sip of his drink--she should trust me more. Julia comes inside--what happened? she asks. What I hoped was merely a singular occurrence is something more, he says--there's no explanation, of course. There must be, insists Julia--Angelique told me not to come back until I knew. You must understand, he says, that in experiments like this, we are dealing with the complete unknown--she did tell you about the body, didn't she? Some, hedges Julia. Aren't you going to congratulate me? he asks--I've given you back your Angelique. She smiles--you know how glad I am, she says.  Hoffman, you could never stand the sight of me, he reminds her--I could never expect more than cursory compliments on my one great triumph. She was so vague, says Julia, I'm afraid I don't really understand. Neither do I, he says
The Robservations changes a word but gets all the points across...

And Hoffulia's "must" line does indeed appear in the scene so it could show up as a future entry in the slideshow.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
DS 1991 Ep #10 (-1970) - Joshua - 'You are not. You MUST not give way. Not now.'

From SHADOWS IN THE '90s: The Dark Shadows Concordance 1991 - PLOT SUMMARIES - EPISODE TEN:
     FOYER:  ...
...                (In the adjoining room) Joshua joins a
withdrawn Naomi and reports they didn't find a sign of any-
thing.  He refuses to accept any of Abigail's superstitious non-
sense, but if there is some evil preying on the house, why did
the evil not die with Angelique?  To Naomi, "At times such
as this, you should not be alone, Madame."  Naomi
whispers, "But I am alone."  Joshua urges Naomi not to give
way and reminds her of her responsibilities to the children.
Naomi hysterically protests none of them are safe.  She tries
to run out.  He stops her.  Naomi despairs over the deaths of
their two oldest sons.  What have they done to bring this
evil upon them?  She dissolves into tears.  Joshua comforts
her.

The summary doesn't entirely reference the quote directly - and it doesn't use "must" - but it does reference the quote's circumstances. Although, there are bits and pieces of the scene that aren't referenced at all...

And as I've done previously when it comes to the '91 Series, I used a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- because even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release (which I don't have any access to at the moment) does -

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "DS 1991 Ep #10 (-1970)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a 1995-Gerard and Daphne-Summer of '70 ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #1162 (1840) - Daphne's Voice - 'You MUST, you MUST. You want to go through with it. You love him. You love him so much. When you see him, run to his arms, run to his arms!'

From "#1161/1162: Robservations 11/10/03: Another Witchly Death"
Daphne, fully clothed, lies on her bed, sleeping.  She dreams of many dripping candles adorning the foyer of Collinwood, of bridal music playing as she, dressed in a stunning white wedding gown, walks slowly across the landing.  She stands at the top of the stairs.  You must, she admonishes herself, you must!  You want to go through with it--you love him so much, when you see him, run to his arms!  Holding her bouquet, she walks regally downstairs and smiles at her groom, Gerard--who holds out his hand.  My darling, he says.  She goes to him, kisses him.  You want to marry me, he says--I can tell, as I want to marry you--I can think of no other life together, but you and me, you by my side as my wife--the powers, I will share them with you--now, come to me.  They kiss.  Daphne awakens with a gasp.
The Robservations trims the quote a bit but gets all the points across...
Today's quote:
Ep #860 (1897[-1841PT]) - Charpansy - 'We MUST remain seated. Do not break contact. We MUST leave the way open for the spirit to appear to us.'

From "Robservations 3/24/03 - #860-861 - Trask is Busted; Kitty Goes to Widows' Hill"
Charity asks, is someone here, someone else?--if so, give us a sign. There's a knock at the door, very slow knocks. Someone is here! announces Charity. The candle goes out (audibly blown out by someone). Who blew it out? asks Edward. I feel a presence of someone, says Charity, of one who is trying to communicate with us. Who is it? asks Kitty. The doors blow open.  Kitty moans.
Charity warns, don't break contact--remain seated--we must leave the way open for the spirit to appear to us. "Look in the doorway!" cries Kitty, pointing to a hooded figure standing there. "Who are you?" demands Edward.
The Robservations paraphrases the quote bit but gets all the points across...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Lady Kitty - 'Yes, Edward, I MUST find out what's happening. Now please leave us alone') was back on February 19th of 2022, and the second (Quentofi - 'Well, uh, you know how we MUST humor her') was back on April 29th of 2023.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "Ep #860 (1897[-1841PT])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a 1841PT ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #1163 (1840) - Leticia - 'This magic circle MUST NOT be broken.'

From "#1163/1164: Robservations 11/12/03: Roxanne Returns"
Why didn't I think of it before? asks Flora, there is a way we can find out who the vampire is--a seance--we can contact Roxanne's spirit--Leticia is a brilliant medium, Flora informs Barnabas, and asks Leticia if she'll help them.  I don't think we'll be able to find out that way! protests Barnabas, his voice trembling--the chances of contacting Roxanne are...  "Very good," interrupts Flora, "I feel it."  She begs Leticia to say she will.  If you really want to, luv, agrees Leticia.  Oh, I do! says Flora, then tells Barnabas that if the idea offends him, he doesn't have to stay.  He says he will stay, thank you.  Flora asks Barnabas to turn down the light--candlelight is best.  He goes to do so, then joins the two women at the table.  Leticia instructs them to touch fingers.  This magic circle, she says, must not be broken--"We seek the spirit who can tell us of the mystery that surrounds our village--we seek a spirit that can tell us who made her as she was when she died--Roxanne Drew, come from the shades where you now dwell--if you can hear the sound of my choice, come to us!
The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

I'm sensing a completely unintentional theme to today's and yesterday's entries in the slideshow. Not only do they come from Nancy Barrett characters, they come from characters in the Faye family, and they take place during seances:

Ep #860 (1897[-1841PT]) - Charpansy - 'We MUST remain
seated. Do not break contact. We MUST leave the way open
for the spirit to appear to us.'

Ep #1163 (1840) - Leticia - 'This magic circle MUST NOT
be broken.'

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #760 (1897[-1970PT]) - Laura's Voice - 'You MUST NOT be frightened. No matter what happens, you MUST be very brave.'

From "Robservations 1/9/03 - #760-761 - Died By Fire"
You must not be frightened, Laura tells her children--you must be brave, no matter what happens.  Nora begs, I want to see you!  Soon, promises Laura
The Robservations rearranges the quote but gets the points across...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Barnabas - 'There MUST be no fire or flame in the house this evening. All fireplaces, oil lamps, candles and stoves MUST be extinguished') was back on March 29th of 2024.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "Ep #760 (1897[-1970PT])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a 1970PT ep but that storyline doesn't have any more eps to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means Ep #760 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, #24, #39, #47, #49, #60, #72, #86, #87, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #145, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #242, #272, #478, #659, #667, #690, #840, #848, #904, #960, #1008 and #1087 as ones without any "must" lines.
