Ben tells Barnabas he's afraid to destroy him, but Barnabas reminds him it would be giving him the gift of peace, which he longs for, and would be his only salvation. Ben promises, and also swears he'll help Vicki. Barnabas has told him where to find money and asks him to keep the rest, start a new life for himself and forget all the horror that has transpired. He also, heartbreakingly, asks Ben to remember the good about him. Barnabas wonders how it will be, to know no more sun or moonlight, but Ben advises him to think of nothing. When Ben mentions that Josette will only remember the good about him, Barnabas decides he must see her once more before the end. Ben tries to discourage this--what if Barnabas does something to her, as he did to the woman murdered the night before? That won't happen, promises Barn, but Ben continues to make his case against seeing Josette again, and Barnabas curtly sends him away.

Does it matter? he queries. Yes, she says, because if you pity me, I have a chance. What, to torture me more? he asks.

No, to make you forgive me, she sobs, falling to her knees before him--forgive me for my injustices, wickedness and cruelty, the pain I caused you, your friends and family, she cries. What new trick is this? He demands, and she denies that, begs him to listen. He refuses to believe her; she caused the death of everyone he loved. I am sorry, she moans. It's too late, he tells her, Josette and my mother have been dead for two centuries, and you murdered them both. Can't you forget that? (now that is asking a lot!) she asks. I will never forget, he retorts, the look on my mother's face when she knew what I was. "I loved you-forgive me!" implores Cassandra, her voice ragged. Barnabas says he cannot forgive. You must, she says, clutching at him, if I am to have any peace. I cannot he says firmly, I'm sorry-if peace were mine to give, I would not have to be honest. He walks away from her. I cannot forget the suffering you've caused in this house-the dream, he continues--"No, Angelique, even if I forgave you for what you've done to me, I can never forgive you for what you've done to others."

Old House - Someone knocks at the door.  Barnabas checks to see who it is--Angelique.  Come in, he says, I must talk to you.  I sense urgency in your tone, she says, smiling--could it be that you are finally willing to admit I was right?--"I told you they'd find out about you, and then your mission here in this century would become impossible."  If that happens, he says, it would be your fault, not mine.  Meaning? she asks.  I spoke with Magda, he explains, who said Quentin appealed to you for help--have you agreed to help or haven't you?  Yes, she says.  How? he asks.  He told me about the hand, says Ang, and so I was able to get it for him--I tried to use it, but wasn't successful--Quentin underwent another transformation, she admits.  You fool! Snarls Barnabas--even you should have realized you couldn't control that thing.

'Victor' definitely has a one-track mind in this ep - though one could definitely say he has a one-track mind until he actually gets the hand...

We must be prepared for whatever is in store for us, says Megan. Well said, praises Barnabas. I only asked because I've been thinking about the future, says Liz--I'm starting a new life, but part of the old life is still very dear to me--specifically, Carolyn.  Megan, confused, stares at Philip. "What about Carolyn?" asks Barnabas.  I've been worried about what's to become of her, says Liz. Don't worry about her, says Barnabas. I want my daughter to share this experience with me, says Liz--I want her to become one of us.

This catches Barnabas off-guard, but he recovers--it's only natural for you to be concerned, he says, and I'm also concerned for Carolyn's future. Megan, noticing something odd about his response, his behavior, watches him closely. I'm glad to hear that, says Liz.

Stay with her, says Maggie--find out everything you can. Yaeger listens carefully to Maggie's side of the conversation. Maggie asks Quentin, do you want me to come to the lab?  He apparently says no.  I understand, says Maggie--good night. She falls back onto her pillow.  Yaeger is again about to strike, but a knock at the door sends him scurrying back to his hiding place (he so reminds me of an old-time villain in these scenes). It's Daniel.

From "Robservations 7/8/02 - Adam Learns His Origins - #550/551"

Carolyn closes the doors and tells Stokes he must take Adam with him-tonight--he can't stay with her. It's neither his fault, nor hers, adds Carolyn, but he's changing, growing up--it's to be expected--he's sweet and bright, and learns fast. Stokes is surprised at the list of positives--what about the bad? She tells Stokes what Adam did and that he wants to make her love him. Carolyn begs for help--Adam is no longer a child, but a man.

The Robservations doesn't really reference the quote. However, what actually happens is that after Carolyn lists the good things about Adam, Prof. Stokes delivers the quote, to which Carolyn explains how Adam locked her in his room with him, how he thinks he's in love with her, and how he said he would make her love him...

And this quote sets another bigger again because it's the ninth time a sixth quote from the same ep has appeared in the slideshow, joining Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993!! The first (Adam - 'I don't mean to frighten her, you MUST TELL her that, then she'll love me') was back on June 26th of 2020, the second (Adam - 'What do you mean I didn't exist? I MUST have existed!') was back on December 6th of 2020, the third (Adam - 'A man MUST grab what he wants!') was back on June 5th of 2021, the fourth (Adam - 'Professor, listen: I love her-- Carolyn. She does not understand. You MUST tell her for me') was back on November 5th of 2021 (apparently we loved quoting Adam and he loved using "must" - he fit into Collinsport so quickly ), and with the fifth (Carolyn - 'Professor, you MUST take him with you--tonight'), which was back on February 15th of 2024, we finally started quoting someone else.
