This is the curse I lay upon your head, says Julianka--first will come three knocks on the door--hear them and begin to weep, for they will herald the beginning, but not the end--the first but not the last--you will live, Magda Rakosi, but everyone you love will die!  Magda rises and begs, don't do this--listen!  Julianka, however, has already faded way.

Barnabas says he had to protect others from Adam; in the beginning, he reacted out of fear and was dangerous, even if he didn't intend to be. He had to stop him. Adam says that isn't how he hurt him; he made him different from other people and didn't tell him he was a creature. Barnabas is shocked; Dr. Lang was responsible for his creation, not him. Adam doesn't know Dr. Lang, but Barnabas was standing by the table when he woke up. Ever since then, he thought Barnabas created him, but Barn tells him this is wrong; he isn't a doctor.

Adam accuses him of lying; he knows the truth, whoever created other people made them beautiful, but Barnabas created him and made him ugly, and that's why people fear him and don't want to come near him-I am alone, and am tired of being alone--I will not go on being lonely and unhappy, and since ordinary people can't love me, I need someone else who is different to love me and be with me all the time.

The Robservations references some bits of the quote but not the quote itself...

However, this is not the first time a similar quote has appeared as part of the slideshow because back on September 5th of 2020 a reworked version (Barnabas - 'Adam, I did not. You MUST listen to me. I'm not even a doctor') appeared as part of the teaser of Ep #552.

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Nicholas - 'Now, you do understand what you must do?') was back on February 20th of 2021.

JUDGE BRAITHEWAITE'S HOME:                                               ... The judge agrees to start the procedure.  But after Peter leaves, the letter turns blank.  And in his bedchamber, Angelique waits.  She murmurs, "There is no letter."  Startled, he protests, "How did you get in here? What do you want?"  She speaks hypnotically, "There is no Mr. Bradford...  There was no visit...  And you... have been sleeping like a baby..."  He flusters, "You must be mad!  I don't know what you're talking about."  She soothes, "You will have the most pleasant dreams...  And when you wake up, you will remember them...  But you will remember nothing else... Nothing..." He stares, mesmerized.

The summary references the quote perfectly...

And as I've done previously when it comes to the '91 Series, I used a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- because even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release does -

- also like the VHS release, it has the correct aspect ratio, plus it even tends to show a bit more of the frame and it's clearer than the VHS.

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "DS 1991 Ep #8 (-1841PT)" before and in that case it meant that the quote should have come from an 1841PT ep but because there are no longer any 1841PT eps that haven't been quoted from, an alternate version of DS is being used instead. In this case that alternate version is the '91 DS and a quote from its Ep #12 is being used.

VICTORIA'S ROOM: She brushes her hair, then goes to the window.  Outside, Barnabas watches.  He bares his fangs, his eyes glowing yellow.  Then he's startled by the sound of a haunting, childish voice calling, "Barnabas...."  His eyes turn normal.  He turns and sees her figure.  Astounded, he calls, "Sara - is that you?"  She begs him, "You must stop...!"  Elated he calls, "You have come back!"  She runs from him.  He franti- cally follows, shouting, "Wait!  Sara don't leave me!  Please don't go away!"  He follows her into the woods.  But the child vanishes completely.  "Sara...  My sweet little sister...  COME BACK!"  Sobbing, he drops to his knees.  His voice is torn in an- guish.   "Please don't hate me...  Please!  I CANNOT HELP MYSELF!!!"

The summary references only part of the quote - this despite the fact that the summary follows with the script and the script does indeed have the full quote...

And an interesting bit of trivia is that even though the pilot as aired ends with the above scene, the pilot script does not. The pilot rearranges the sequence of some of the scenes, and rather than end with the above sequence, the scripted ending begins with this post:

And as I've done previously when it comes to the '91 Series, I used a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

Willie is about to leave the Old House with a bag of food when someone knocks. He hides the bag behind a column and opens the door. It's Stokes, who says he must see Barnabas or Julia right away. Willie doesn't know where they are, and Stokes notes his nervousness. Willie has something important to do, so Stokes lets him go. The doors blow open and Willie wonders why. Stokes glances outside and says it wasn't the wind; the trees aren't moving. What's going on, wonders Willie. Stokes says it's here again. The chandelier and curtains begin to blow. Willie is spooked, and Stokes calls it the same astral projection that was there last night, after the experiment was completed. He thinks it has something to do with--what? Willie is anxious to get out of there, and the strange happenings stop. Willie doesn't care, he's leaving. Stokes stands in the middle of the room, calling it utterly fascinating.

From the DS 2004 Pilot script:

EXT. COLLINSPORT MEDICAL CENTER - DAY Small but modern. INT. HOSPITAL ROOM - COLLINSPORT MEDICAL CENTER - DAY As the rhythmic BEEP of a heart monitor sounds in the background, reveal an unconscious CAROLYN lying in bed.  Her face is bruised and cut, her throat wrapped with gauze.  Joe is sitting bedside, holding her hand, while Roger and Elizabeth stand watch nearby.  After a moment, DR. JULIA HOFFMAN (attractive, professional) enters. Joe stands, concerned...                     JOE           Dr. Hoffman. What happened?                     HOFFMAN           Ben Griffin found her inside his           garage.  From the look of things,           she must have fallen through the           skylight.                     JOE           The skylight?                    ELIZABETH           Doctor, is she going to be all           right? Hoffman checks the I.V. dripping blood into Carolyn's system.                     HOFFMAN           She's cracked three ribs and lost a           lot of blood.  The next twenty-four           hours are critical.

Dark Shadows - M. Verheiden - 1/19/04                 30.                     JOE           I don't understand.  The Sheriff           said she'd been attacked by an           animal.                     HOFFMAN           That's true.  We found bite marks           in her throat...                     ROGER               (incredulous)           That's insane.  What kind of animal           could have thrown her like that?                     HOFFMAN           I have to be honest with you.  I           don't know. Carolyn suddenly MOANS.  Concerned, Elizabeth pulls away from Roger and goes to her daughter.                     HOFFMAN (CONT'D)           I'll be back in a minute...

And as you can see the quote doesn't appear anywhere in the script. And that's because the scene was completely reworked before shooting. What happens in the pilot is the scene begins immediately with Joe explaining to Elizabeth and Roger that "Ben Griffin found her outside his garage," with that followed by the quote. Joe's lines are a reworking of info that was originally scripted to be delivered by Dr. Hoffman. (And in the pilot there's actually no reference to Carolyn being found inside Griffin's Garage or having fallen through the skylight - a shame because Dr. Hoffman's original lines would have been a "MUST" quote. In fact, the scene is almost entirely different in the actual pilot. Check out -
