[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #414 (1796) - Millicent - 'Oh, no, no, you MUSTN'T'

From "#0413/0414: Robservations 03/26/02: Barnabas Visits the Docks"
At Collinwood, Millicent gushes to Nathan how much she appreciates his showing her the eclipse, even if it WAS really late. They discuss Barnabas' odd, hasty departure for England, and he takes her in his arms.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all. However, after Millicent thanks Nathan and says she enjoyed the eclipse very much, she starts to go on about how so few people see eclipses and how so few people are up as late, well, so few people one knows, but she understands that some people stay up later, somehow. She then bids Nathan goodnight, but he says he's staying for a few minutes. That's when Millicent delivers the quote and reminds Nathan of when Barnabas discovered him there so late. Nathan points out that Barnabas is on his way to England. Millicent points out that's an odd fact in itself given that he never mentioned his going, and she'd seen him just a day or two before - and for him to leave for England in the middle of the night, wasn't it lucky there was a ship. And at that point is when Nathan closes the drawing room doors and takes Millicent in his arms, despite more of her protests that he should leave. Her family will not think she values herself very highly - and what if Abigail should find them...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #538 (1968) - Prof. Stokes - 'For once, I MUST admit I-- I don't know what we should do. You MUST forgive me, it's been a long time since I had this feeling.'

From "Robservations 6/26/02 - #538/539 - Nicholas Disciplines Cass"
Stokes joins them, and Carolyn tells him that Adam doesn't remember anything that happened. Adam, rubbing his stomach, says he wants to go home now--this place makes him sick. Stokes tells him they can't go home because the police are looking for him. Carolyn thinks he needs a doctor. Stokes says Julia is coming. No Julia, insists Adam. Carolyn whispers that Adam doesn't trust Julia. Stokes doesn't know what they should do and apologizes for his inability to come up with an idea--he doesn't normally react this way.
Carolyn says they need a place to hide him and he needs someone to take care of him.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does reference most of the quote's main points...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #689 (1969) - Maggie - 'David, you said that you were frightened. You MUST know what frightens you, don't you?'

From "Robservations 10/15/02 - #688-689 - Quentin Punishes David"
Maggie assures David she'll stay with him until he goes to sleep. He tells her he sometimes thinks he'll never sleep again--I don't know why I feel that way. She asks what he's frightened of. I know what it is, he say but can't tell you--I don't know how. She asks if it's a person in the house that's scaring him. Stop asking so many questions, says David.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but once again there is a reference to the circumstances under which it's delivered...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #788 (1897) - Judith - 'All right, Edward, the animal has been apprehended, and we're all safe. MUST we discuss it for the rest of the day?'

From "Robservations 1/30/03 - #788-789 - Quentin Gets a Break, Gaslighting Judith"
Edward relates to Judith the incredible story of how the animal's features turned into those of a man at the crack of dawn--a grotesque man. Judith appears to be in a trance. You haven't reacted to anything I've said, points out Edward. I'm glad they caught the animal, says Judith, but I have something else on my mind. Edward wonders--what could possibly be of more concern than the animal that almost killed you? All right, says Judith, the animal has been apprehended and we're all safe, but insist we not discuss it all day, it's morbid. This annoys Edward--what is the matter with you? he asks. Nothing, she says, tapping her beringed hand on the table. Edward stiffly asks, are you having second thoughts about your ridiculous marriage? No, my marriage wasn't a mistake, maintains Judith. "Give it time," says Edward sarcastically. I will, with the full knowledge that, if it fails, it was no more ridiculous than yours, retorts Judith. Touche, says Edward

The Robservations references the quote quite well but does paraphrase parts...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #925 (1970) - David - 'She MUST be somewhere in the house. Well, it doesn't seem like Maggie to go off without telling anybody.'

From "Robservations 5/5/03 - #924-925 - Ang Returns; Maggie's Missing; Todds Divided"
Roger comes downstairs and asks David, who's put the game away, do you know where Maggie is?--I couldn't find her anywhere. I haven't seen her all morning, replies David--she must be somewhere in the house--it's not like her to go off without telling anybody. Yes, I know, agrees Roger. Michael exits the kitchen, and listens as Roger sternly asks David, did something happen last night that I don't know about?--when I went to look for Maggie, she wasn't in her room, nor had her bed slept in. I don't understand, says David.  Roger leaves to make a through search of the house.

Again, a Robservations references the quote quite well but does paraphrase parts...

When I was getting the screen capture for today's quote I noticed there was a glitch on the DVD during the scene -

- so I checked my Sci-Fi tape of the ep, and sure the glitch was edited out -

- but I think the edit went too far because it certainly looks like the black could have been edited without also editing out Roger's, "Well, I don't understand why she isn't here - she knew very well that there were no other adults in the house." But then, as I've lamented before, there would seem to be no way to fathom how/why some of the edits during the Sci-Fi run were made.  [snow_rolleyes] [snow_undecided]

At least we're lucky that Ep #925 comes up after MPI decided they shouldn't edit the Master Tapes for the DVDs...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1021 (1970PT) - Barnabas - 'I MUST find that man!'

From "#1020/1021: Robservations 07/15/03: Buffie, the Vampire Victim"
Buffie looks at her love bites in the mirror, fingering them. Barnabas appears--does John Yaeger still interest you? he asks. "You were standing out there all that time?" she asks. He advances on her. Tell me everything you know about Yaeger, he commands. I hardly know anything, she says, the doctor can answer your  questions; he knew him better than anyone. Oh? asks Barnabas. Yaeger used to help him with his experiments, she says, I bet he could tell you where Yaeger is right now. That would please you to know, wouldn't it? asks Barnabas. No, I never want to see him again, she insists.  I, on the other hand, want to see him, ASAP, says Barn--I have important questions to ask him, concerning a certain basement room--I want you to find out everything you can from Cyrus.
You told me to stay away from Cyrus, she protests. That was before I knew there was a connection between Yaeger and him, says Barnabas--make sure he doesn't find out our secret--I must find that man!

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

Ep #1086 (1970) - Hallie - 'Oh, we've got to be careful. They MUSTN'T ever find out.'

From "#1086/1087: Robservations 08/29/03: Murderous Gerard"
I'm sorry, Hallie, says David, you don't know how sorry I truly am. I do, she assures him--I know you would never do anything to hurt me. The intensity of their statements to each other makes Liz look from one to the other for a few moments--well, off to bed, both of you, she says--and David, I don't want to find you outside this room again tonight--is that clear?  Yes, he says. Almost to herself, but aloud, Liz murmurs that probably safer, having him in here alone, away from strangers. Hallie gazes at her, puzzled. Liz bids them good night and leaves the room. Hallie says, "'Strangers'--what does she mean, do you think she knows?"  I don't know, says David--Quentin said something about strangers earlier.  We've got to be careful, says Hallie, they must not ever find out. I wish they would, says David. But they won't--ever--says Hallie, because we won't tell them!

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1147 (1840) - Samantha - 'And that staircase! You really MUST destroy it.'

From "#1146/1147: Robservations 10/29/03: The Real Daphne, Revealed"
At least I tried to be civil, she says--I simply came here to tell you your father is much better, but he's very disturbed about those insane experiments of yours--you should get rid of them--and that staircase!--you really must destroy it!  Before it's finished? he asks.  Finished! she cries--a staircase through time, really, Quentin--when Daniel told me about it, I almost doubted your sanity.  Of course! he says--I think a staircase would be very good here at Collinwood--you've got to admit that one or two times you would have used it since you've come here.  Don't talk nonsense, she advises--people will think you're mad.  Do you? he asks.  About this, yes, she says, what if Mr. Trask found out?  My dear, he says, I will finish that staircase simply because of Trask, and I shall send him to another century!

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And I always like the screen captures I pick for the slideshow - I work diligently on them. But sometimes I happen upon one that I really love having been able to get, and today's is a perfect example of that -

- I mean, just look at those eyes! And truthfully the whole scene between Samantha and Quentin is one of the best in the entire show. I love the way Sam Hall wrote it and David Selby and Virginia Vestoff play things to perfection, particularly, Vestoff. And not that I don't enjoy Diana Millay's performance in NoDS, but it's scenes like this that really show what a loss it was that Vestoff was unable to portray Samantha in the film...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1228 (1841PT) - Flora - 'He IS Morgan, we MUST continue to think that.'

From "#1228/1229: Robservations 01/02/04: Daphne Faces the Truth"
Collinwood - Catherine comes downstairs.  How is Morgan? asks Flora.  Morgan? repeats Catherine sarcastically--isn't it strange how we keep calling him that, despite what's happened?--it's not Morgan, James Forsythe went into that room that night and took Morgan's body for his own!  He IS Morgan, says Flora, we must continue to think that.  Do you? demands Catherine, do you really believe that man up there in that room, staring down at us, hating us because we're Collinses, that stranger--is my husband or your son?  Not as he is, says Flora, I don't know how to bring my son back, except to wait.  Wait for what? asks Catherine

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the last 1841PT not to have been quoted from, meaning now all the 1841PT eps have been quoted from at least once. So, whenever an 1841PT ep comes up in the future months when I'm picking the quotes for the slideshow, I'll be substituting quotes from the alternative versions of DS. Though I will be using an 1841PT quote if I should come across a "Blackmailing Liz-Intro to Barnabas-Kidnapping Maggie-Intro to Julia" ep or a "The Werewolf-Quentin's Ghost" ep that doesn't have any "must" quotes.

Ep #1170 (1840) - Leticia - 'Gerard, what's troubling her? You MUST tell me.'

From "#1169/1170: Robservations 11/17/03: A Curse is Lifted"
What am I going to do? asks Daphne.  (We see Mike R. Phone.)  I overheard, says Gerard, joining the ladies--it's Joanna.  Daphne nods--yes, she agrees.  Who is Joanna? asks Leticia.  I'm afraid she's someone who's risen from the dead, says Gerard.  Oh the one Samantha told about at Quentin's trial, remembers Leticia.  Yes that's right--excuse me, says Daphne, and hurries from the room.  Gerard, what's troubling Daphne? asks Leticia--you must tell me.  Before Gerard can reply, Daphne calls to Gerard from the foyer, where she's found another note on the table.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1047 (1970PT) - Timothy Stokes - 'It defies rational thought. That's why I think there MUST have been someone else behind this.'

From "#1046/1047: Robservations 08/01/03: Carolyn Mourns; Claude North"
why would a man of his talents, his future, with a young, beautiful wife--why would such a man deliberately destroy himself?--I can't for the life of me figure it out--why would Will do such a thing?  She looks up at him--I would rather not talk about it, if you don't mind, she says. Of course you wouldn't, he agrees, it defies rational thought!  She drinks some more.  I think there must have been someone else behind it, says Stokes--am I right or wrong?--tell me. She looks him in the face--you're right, she says.
Then there was someone else behind it, says Stokes again, but before he can question Carolyn further, Barnabas returns home.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

"Rational thought" in Collinsport? What a radical concept! When is anything that happens there rational? And we wouldn't have it any other way!!  [ghost_nowink]

Ep #964 (1970) - Roger - 'Well, of course not, but we MUST be clever. More than they.'

From "Robservations 6/3/03 - #964-965 - Jeb's Odd Request; Quentin, Buried Alive!"
Collinwood - Roger asks Quentin, why did they take Julia?  Q replies, it's Jeb's declaration of war on all of us
--Barnabas, Julia, me and you. Are they going to kill her? asks Roger anxiously.  Unless we can stop them, says Q. How do we know where they went? asks Roger. Not the carriage house, says Quentin, he's too smart for that--they'll try the crypt at the cemetery. It may be a trap, says Roger--they'll know you or Barnabas would try to rescue her. You're right, says Q, but we can't simply forget about her. Of course not, says Roger, but we must be clever--more clever than they. Both men try to think of a plan.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #863 (1897) - Evan - 'The robber of a soul MUST NOT be spared.'

From "Robservations 3/25/03 - #862-863 - Quentin Asks For Evan's Help"
Evan, in black robes, stands, muttering to himself. He checks Quentin and Petofi's pulses, then lifts a golden chalice and says, Lucifer, great god of man and beast, look on us with favor, help us correct this evil that has been done in defiance of you, renew our bondage as your servants, grant us the power we need this night, and we will be yours for eternity, for Bow, who guides your mind, for Beelzebub, who rules your spirit. Evan drinks from the chalice. He places his hands on Quentin's head and says the robber of a soul must not be spared.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

On the other hand, Evan doesn't invoke Bow, he invokes Baal, who is invoked several times on DS.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #682 (1969) - Prof. Stokes - 'Janet Findley. Janet Findley, we are calling to you. You MUST hear us and speak to us from beyond the grave. Janet Findley, hear us. Hear us!'

From "Robservations 10/9/02 - #682/683 - Beth Gives Amy a Gift"
Stokes has them put hands on the table, fingers touching, and reminds them not to break the circle. He tells them to think only of Janet Findlay--concentrate on her alone and clear your minds of everything but her image. Stokes calls to Janet Findlay, asking her to hear them--speak to us from beyond the grave--hear us, he intones, if you're in the room, give us a sign--we need your help. Stokes senses a presence in the house and asks it to make itself known. Sarah Johnson snatches her hands out of the circle. Stokes warns her, "Your hands!" She apologizes, replacing them on the table. As Stokes calls, we see the door upstairs on the landing opening. A spirit comes downstairs and enters the drawing room. Mrs. Johnson goes into a trance, asking "Why did you call me?" Stokes asks if she's Janet Findlay. Yes, she says. What happened? he asks.
"The children," she says, "the panel, the room." Stokes asks for more explicit details. "I found that room, I waited there for something to happen, and then, then. . .he killed me! He killed me!" she cries, and collapses on the table.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote entirely, but it does reference the most important parts of it...
