If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 2nd's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 2nd's quote:
Ep #163 (1967) - David - 'The picture of my mother... and now me too. It was there where Josette is. When you called I turned around, and they MUST have taken it away again.'

From "#0162/0163: Robservations 09/13/01: Laura's Portrait Reappears"
Guthrie calls to David, who turns away from the portrait--which switches back to that of Josette. I've been looking for you, calls Guthrie, off-camera (didn't he tell him in yesterday's ep to wait for him in the drawing room?) He finds David standing on the chair and asks what's the matter. Where is it? asks David desperately--what happened to it? What happened to what? asks Guthrie. My painting, wails David, it's gone! But the picture's still there! points out Guthrie. Not that one, says David, the other one, my painting. Calm down, take it easy, says Guthrie. They're always taking it away from me, rants David, but it's mine!--mine! What picture? asks Guthrie. The picture of my mother, says David, and now me, too, it was there where Josette is, when you called, I turned around, and they must have taken it away again. Nobody's taken anything out of this room, says Guthrie, you and I are the only ones here. Didn't you see it? says David. I saw no picture of you and your mother--none at all, says Guthrie. David jumps off the chair and both stare up at Josette's portrait.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the 3rd quote from this ep. The first (Laura - 'What an interesting observation-- we MUST discuss it sometime' was back on October 15th of 2022, and the second (Dr. Guthrie - 'What an interesting observation-- we MUST discuss it sometime') was back on October 16 of 2022.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 3rd's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 3rd's quote:
Ep #269 (1967) - Jason - 'It MUST have cost you a pretty penny. Have it encased in plastic or something-- it's very artistic.'

From "#0269/0270: Robservations 12/04/01: On With the Wedding?!"
Jason comes in. Burke explains to him that he came to talk Liz out of the wedding, without success.
After Jason is shown the papers, he issues Burke a wedding invitation. Disgusted, Burke says goodnight to Liz and leaves.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all because the summary is one of the ones with little detail. However, after Jason has Liz admit that nothing in Burke's report bothers her, Jason says Burke had better have the report back and he follows that with the quote...

And that is one of my favorite bits of Jason dialogue (along with how in the same scene, after Burke says he was using Jason's character as ammunition to try to persuade Liz not to marry him, Jason says, "Ah, well, you see now, that's your mistake. Because she's marrying me because of my character.")

And this is the 2nd quote from this ep. The first (Vicki - 'There MUST be another way out') was back on May 14th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 4th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 4th's quote:
Ep #416 (1796) - Barnabas - 'Tonight I MUST go into the village.'

From "#0269/0270: Robservations 12/04/01: On With the Wedding?!"
He wants to turn himself in to save Vicki, but Ben wants to help her escape, and asks Barnabas for money to do so. No, Barn decides, they might get caught; he'll turn himself in, and if he's not back by sunrise, and it's the end of everything, including his own undead existence, so be it. Ben won't allow it, but Barnabas says he can't stop him.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote, but it comes up as Barnabas is explaining how he will give himself up and free Miss Winters...

And this is the 2nd quote from this ep. The first (Naomi - 'We MUST call her. Sarah! Sarah! She'll come running down the stairs, laughing-- through the doors, into my arms') was back on May 25th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 5th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 5th's quote:
Ep #547 (1968) - Julia - 'No, no, Barnabas, if she is human, you MUST destroy her before she can get to him.'

From "Robservations 7/2/02 - Last-Ditch Efforts For Cass - #546/547"
Julia wants Barnabas to stop Cassandra, and says he must destroy her before she gets to Nicholas-it's his only chance to escape her. Barnabas explains he had his chance, he had the gun in his hand--why didn't he do it? He values life now that he's human, perhaps it's that simple, even the life of a woman who has made his life hell. Julia notes he regrets not doing it, but Barnabas insists that they let Nicholas finish her-it's the only way he will be truly free. Julia says she won't let him be so passive about it, she won't let him lose this moment, and she caresses the barrel of the gun. If you won't do something, the years of agony she caused you, sobs Julia, then I will! I haven't forgotten, says Barnabas. She reminds him with Cassandra powerless, this is the moment to strike--she will get back her powers, as she has in the past, after Trask, after the aging of the portrait, why is it different now?
Says Barnabas, for once, she wasn't pretending--I want to watch and learn a great deal about Nicholas. You can go on learning, but I will be more practical, insists Julia, taking the gun into her hand. No, Julia, says Barnabas.

The Robservations references the circumstances of the quote quite well...

And this is the 2nd quote from this ep. The first (Roger - 'Whoever she is, where did she come from? How did she get here? The house is at least a quarter of a mile from the road. She MUST have come up the path') was back on June 5th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 6th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 6th's quote:
Ep #655 (1968) - Julia - 'Yes, you MUST.'

From "Robservations 9/19/02 - #654/655 - Joe Unhinged"
As Joe approaches the front door of Collinwood, inside, Carolyn is chastising Julia (and in absentia, Barnabas) because no one sent for her in light of Vicki's disappearance, her mother's breakdown and other recent upheavals in the household.
Julia defends herself--there was nothing anyone could do about Vicki. As for Liz, she's physically fine, but she thinks she's going to die. Joe sneaks into Collinwood as Julia explains to Carolyn that Liz feels they will all BELIEVE her to be dead, but she won't be. Julia doesn't know how it got started, and none of the doctors at Windcliff could delve into it. Carolyn demands to see her mother, so Joe, who was about to go upstairs, is sidetracked into the servants' quarters.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote, but it comes up right after Carolyn demands to see her mother...

And this is the fifth quote from this ep. The first (Cassandra - 'But I MUST touch you. And when I do, it will be as though you are dead') was back on December 21st of 2020, the second (Cassandra - 'You MUST leave Mrs. Stoddard now. She and I have an account to settle') was back on August 8th of 2021, the third (Liz - 'I MUST move! I MUST make them hear!') was back on June 13th of 2022, and the fourth (Liz - 'I don't know. I MUST have') was back on December 22nd of 2022.

And this ep now shares the [milestone] of a fifth quote with Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #543, #544, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218. However, recall that there's an even bigger because Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 7th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 7th's quote:
Ep #793 (1897) - Edward - 'He did his best to clear you of suspicion, but I MUST be frank with you and tell you that he did not succeed.'

From "Robservations 2/3/03 - #792/793 - Angelique Meets Aristede"
Angelique comes downstairs at Collinwood, carrying the boxed hand.  I received a surprising telephone call from Evan, Edward says--he did his best to clear you of suspicion, but he didn't succeed--the fact that Evan knew you before you met Barnabas has no bearing on your innocence--I believe it was known all along what Barnabas is.  Not true, she says.  Edward adds, I believe you know where he is now.  No, she says, and don't want to know.  If you had nothing to fear, he asks, why did you run away?  Faltering, she says, I was terribly confused--I knew everyone would suspect me of helping Barnabas--I didn't know what else to do.  Then you did know about him? asks Edward.  No, she replies, only after we became engaged, not before.  And you remained silent while he was victimizing this community? demands Edward.  She looks at him.  The victim of a vampire has no choice, she says--I wanted to expose him, but he robbed me of my free will--just as with Charity Trask--I was a helpless slave--it was the most shameful, degrading thing that ever happened to me.

Angelique really is a true BS-artist!!  [easter_wink] [easter_cheesy]

The Robservations references most the quote, though it skips the "MUST" part - shameful...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first ('Victor' - 'Since our first attempt has failed, we MUST employ our alternate plan') was back on May 30th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 8th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 8th's quote:
Ep #928 (1970) - Philip - 'The formalities MUST be dealt with.'

From "Robservations 5/7/03 - #928-929 - Michael Returns; Paul in Too Deep "
Antique shop - Julia sits at the desk, making out the paperwork for Michael's death certificate. Philip, I'm sorry, she says.  The formalities must be dealt with, he answers. I wish I knew what happened to him, she says.  The answer is on the death certificate, says Philip--his heart just failed--but for me and Megan, it will be more difficult to find an answer--I'm sorry--I didn't meant to be rude, you've been wonderful both to the boy and Megan afterwards.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Megan - 'Oh, please darling, darling, you MUSTN'T be frightened!') was back on April 20th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 9th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 9th's quote:
Ep #1026 (1970PT) - Barnabas - 'It's the eyes of Angelique I'm looking into. It is the truth of Angelique that I MUST know. Come closer to me. Closer. Closer.'

From "#1026/1027: Robservations 07/18/03: Burning Eyes; Yaeger Stalks"
Now Barnabas' eyes are superimposed upon Angelique's.  "It's the eyes of Angelique I'm looking into, he says--it is the truth of Angelique that I must know--come closer to me...closer...closer! "My eyes, stop looking at me!" screams Angelique, entering her room in a panic. She sees Barnabas standing there. "Why?" demands Barnabas, "because I see Angelique?"  "You!" she cries. "You know!" "Yes, Angelique, I KNOW!" he says, gazing at her triumphantly.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And as discussed in Reply #2411, this quote from Ep #1026 is a bit different from what Barnabas says in Ep #1027, so that's why both versions are able to be a part of the slideshow.

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Liz - 'You MUST stop comparing yourself to her') was back on June 9th.

Interesting power that Barnabas demonstrates here. Too bad he didn't think to use it in other storylines.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 10th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 10th's quote:
Ep #1090 (1970) - Barnabas - 'You MUSTN'T do that. Whatever's happening to them is not your fault.'

From "#1089/1090: Robservations 09/03/03: Maggie, Attacked"
I should have made a point of talking to you before this. About what? he asks. About the children, she says. Has something happened to them? he asks. Yes, I'm certain, says Maggie, I don't know exactly what it is, and that's what's so frustrating--but something has happened to change them, that much I'm sure of. Describe that feeling, he says. The children have become cold and distant, she says, they rarely smile anymore and seem uninvolved in their lessons--it's almost as if they're doing the lessons for my benefit, not their own--I blamed myself at first. You mustn't do that, says Barnabas, whatever is happening to them is not your fault. Barnabas, she explains, there have been times when I've felt a kind of presence in this house, not something I can defined, but it's made me uncomfortable, even frightened me--it's that feeling of being watched without knowing who it is--I felt that presence in my room tonight--that's why I couldn't sleep--I feel that presence in this room right now

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Sebastian - 'I MUST say I was not prepared for you at all. I heard your name mentioned amongst the family, but no one ever said how lovely you were') was back on January 9th of 2022.

Exactly. But you know the writers - they give characters powers and then forget they have them. Case in point, somehow I suspect Barnabas' knowledge of how to unlock the secret number of the universe might have come in handy even when he wasn't just using it to terrorize Julia in 1967...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 11th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 11th's quote:
Ep #1150 (1840) - Lamar - 'Randall, you MUST tell me what's happened. A little while ago, suddenly, a change began to come over me.'

From "#1150/1151: Robservations 11/03/03: Gerard Gives Daphne Dreams"
Old House - Randall enters, calling to Barnabas.  Trask has been locked in the basement; seeing Randall, he orders him, "Get me out of here!"  Randall tells Trask the door is locked.  Trask explains that Barnabas locked him in there, then left, and he doesn't know where he went.  You must tell me what's happened, says Trask--a little while ago a change came over me.  You are no longer under Roxanne's control, says Randall--she's dead.  You destroyed her? asks Trask.  I had to, says Randall, his voice tortured, don't you understand?  Yes, of course, says Trask, may the poor child rest in peace now--and may we discover the heretic that caused her to be that way.

The Robservations references the quote close to perfectly...

And this is the fourth quote from this ep. The first (Randall - 'I MUST. I MUST, there is an innocent woman dying in Rose Cottage') was back on May 11th of 2020, the second (Randall - 'Someone at Collinwood MUST have a key. I'll go there and I'll be back here as soon as I can make it') was back on December 20th of 2023, and the third (Quentin - 'Now we MUST maintain contact throughout. Understand?') was back on May 21st. So all that means that Ep #1150 has joined the club with Eps #2, #3, #42, #44, #50, #52, #54, #66, #106, #119, #133, #158, #195, #208, #211, #212, #296, #300, #308, #315, #340, #365, #367, #377, #384, #405, #410, #426, #449, #450, #462, #466, #479, #481, #503, #506, #518, #528, #534, #543, #544, #545, #550, #608, #609, #629, #639, #643, #644, #646, #647, #651, #655, #678, #709, #717, #727, #734, #742, #743, #746, #750, #763, #764, #883, #884, #886, #889, #915, #926, #975, #976, #977, #993, #1006, #1011, #1014, #1025, #1057, #1064, #1081, #1111, #1125, #1126, #1127, #1128, #1197, #1199, #1206, #1218, #1222, #1223 and #1232. However, not only recall that Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #543, #544, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #655, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218. have five quotes, but Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 12th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 12th's quote:
Ep #1226 (1841PT) - Melanie - 'Julia, I love him. If I'm going to lose him, I MUST hear it from him.'

From "#1226/1227: Robservations 12/30/03: Gabriel, Insane"
He hasn't gone away forever, has he? asks Melanie.  I think it's best if he has, says Julia.  But he didn't say that, she says, he didn't say he'd never see me again--because I couldn't stand it if that happened, wails Melanie--I'm going to die if it did!  You've got to face this realistically, says Julia.  I love Kendrick, says Melanie, he's the only man I've ever loved, I can't let him just go like that.  You can't stop him, points out Julia, it's not right for somebody with your secret--you can't love anyone.  (What a terrible thing to say!)  That's not true, says Melanie, I love Kendrick, I can't help myself--I'm going to go to him, face him and tell him how I feel.  You can't do that, says Julia.  I love him, repeats Melanie, if I'm going to lose him, I must hear it from him.  That's absurd, protests Julia, it's the worst thing you could do.  I don't believe that! says Melanie, I believe he'll listen to me!  She runs to the door, Julia calling, come back!  Julia is unable to stop her and Melanie leaves.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Flora - 'But we MUST be careful-- we don't want to happen to him what happened to...') was back on December 11th of 2023.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 13th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 13th's quote:
Ep #95 (1966) - Frank - 'Well, there MUST be something wrong with the male population of Collinsport.'

From "#0095/0096: Robservations 07/27/01: Roger or Burke?"
In any case, we've established one point, says Frank--that is that Burke Devlin doesn't qualify as a boyfriend--is there a boyfriend in the picture? You do ask blunt question, says Vicki. As a lawyer I find it's the best way to get straight answers, he says--what is the answer? The answer is no, says Vicki. He smiles--I'm surprised, he says, I'd have thought half the male population of Collinsport would have been be beating a path to your door. Not at all, she grins. There must be something wrong with the male population of Collinsport, he says. They look at each other a moment, and Vicki says, I guess I should go.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (James Blair - 'You MUST have a fondness for fountain pens--you've hardly taken your eyes off it') was back on May 13th of 2020, and the second (Vicki - 'He told me that he'd been killed by someone in Collinsport, and I MUST LEAVE Collinwood because I'm in danger') was back on January 1st ([occasion18]) of 2021.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding July 14th's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]July 14th's quote:
Ep #270 (1967) - Jason - 'Now if you'll excuse me, I MUST straighten out my things. And then I MUST dress. Because I'm getting married, you know.'

From "#0269/0270: Robservations 12/04/01: On With the Wedding?!"
I know you're forcing my mother to marry you! accuses Carolyn,
and he retorts that he expects her to marry Buzz and get the hell out of Collinwood--in his new role as Liz' husband, he will have her out tonight!

It's true shame that this Robservations falls in the period when there's little detail because not only this scene but this ep is spectacular. However, in the case of this ep, the AOL Update from when the ep was shown on the Sci-Fi Channel as the second ep back on Thursday 10/05/95 and written by Shebastorm/Teri Darcy does indeed provide more detail as well as reference when the quote comes up:

Quote from: Shebastorm
Carolyn is making a thorough search of Jason's room.  She finds a small locked diary-type book and slices through its strap with a letter opener.  Before she can read anything, Jason arrives and informs her she's going to regret being there very much.  With a combination of snarling, threatening and manhandling, he manages to convey to her that he expects her to leave Collinwood - tonight!  Now she'll have to excuse him to get ready for his wedding, and he suggests she use the time to pack her bags.  Since the wedding will be "too moving for words", he bids her goodbye now.  She flounces out with a slam of the door.

And Ep #270 is this month's first example where Midnite serendipitously happened upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before.
