Vicki spots the book in Barnabas' hands, which he had apparently changed his mind about giving to her in light of the browbeating Burke and Carolyn gave him.

Burke admits he didn't want Barnabas to give her the book, immediately placing himself on Vicki's bad side--especially after she looks inside and sees that Barnabas has inscribed it to her. Vicki expresses her gratitude to Barnabas, who, upset at the awkward situation (but glad it made Burke look like an SOB and him a gentleman), takes his leave.

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all. But how it comes up is that after Vicki spots the book in Barnabas' hands, he delivers the quote. And after Vicki then wonders why she can't simply see the book right then is when Burke admits it is because of him that Barnabas wasn't giving her the book...

At Collinwood, Daniel, who is heading outside to find Ben, is encouraged to sit down and talk to Naomi, who basically tells him she would like him to stay there and be raised by her and Joshua--this big house needs a boy to grow up in it, she says lovingly. He apologizes for saying it, but he wants to go home to New York. He complains that Millicent cries a lot and is unhappy in ways she never was in New York.

Perhaps Millicent will stay, too, suggests Naomi. She asks him to think about it, but Daniel frankly admits he loved Sarah, but doesn't like this place, and there's nothing to laugh about there. Naomi says they can make it a happy place. (he's got that right!)

Jeff picks up the notebook and reads about assembling the strongest legs and sturdiest heart, and finding a mind of genius caliber. Jeff rubs his face like he's getting a headache. He hoped he'd never see that handwriting again.

Something must first be done about Barnabas, insists Nathan. That's the part I don't understand, says Millicent--I was so sure Barnabas was dead. I've been thinking about poor Daniel all morning, laments Flora, who is dressed in black, and how sad it is that he died before knowing Quentin was innocent, but now I'm not sure--perhaps his death was a kindness.  I'm just terrified what's going to happen, says Leticia, when they bring Quentin to that funeral today.  The door opens and Desmond walks in.  His mother starts to tell him what happened, but he says, "Wait, Mother--I've just come from the pre-trial hearing--Quentin is not going to be tried for the murder of Randall Drew."  Flora and Leticia smile, relieved.  Then Desmond drops the bomb: "He is going to be tried for witchcraft!"  The woman are horrified.
