If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #427 (1796) - Judge Hanley - 'You MUST NOT interrupt the testimony, Mr. Bradford.'

From "#0427/0428: Robservations 04/04/02: Vicki's Trial Begins"
Trask calls Abigail first.  She takes the oath and stands in the witness box, then describes Vicki's strange arrival--she was responsible for Jeremiah's death!  Trask and Peter get into an argument over that, and the judge forces them to stop.  Abigail explains how she made arrangements with their solicitor in Boston for a governess, but that woman, Phyllis Wick, never arrived--
it's witchcraft, says Abigail, and she hasn't been seen to this day!  Abigail discusses how scandalous Vicki's clothing was, and that Barnabas first invited Vicki inside, "and with that gesture, sealed his fate and that of so many of my beloved family!"
Again, the Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all, nor does the AOL Update. However, after Abigail testifies about how Barnabas met Vicki and brings up her clothes is when Peter jumps in to say there's an explanation for her clothes, but to that is when the Judge admonishes him by delivering the quote. And after that is when Abigail goes on the say that Barnabas having asked Vicki to come in sealed his fate...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Trask - 'The authorities agree-- Miss Winters MUST be brought to trial without warning, without having a chance to contact her master: Satan') was back on January 24th of 2022, and the second (Peter - 'Your honor, she's trying to suggest that we MUST accept second-hand testimony') was back on March 4th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #565 (1968) - Barnabas - 'Night has a special meaning to me, Julia. It always will. Even standing here now I remember the urge that I had to find someone-- the feeling that-that I MUST attack some poor, innocent victim. I MUST find him, Julia.'

From "Robservations 7/17/02 - #564/565 - JOOOLIA!"
Julia works alone in the lab, surrounded by multi-colored bottles of fluids. Barnabas comes downstairs and gives her the bad news--Tom Jennings' body was gone when he and Willie dug it up, and now, just as he walked in the darkness such a short time ago, another vampire walks. What are they going to do?
Julia tells him they will go on with the experiment, but Barnabas feels he must find Tom Jennings. He wonders if Cassandra is somehow involved, they never did find her body--this is the sort of thing she would do. But Cassandra aged and died, points out Julia. Nicholas must have something to do with it then, says Barnabas, but Julia says they must stop thinking about this. For nearly 200 years, he was like that man out there, night has a special meaning to him and always will, says Barn. He remembers well his own urges to attack someone. "I must find him, Julia," insists Barnabas, but she refuses to let him go. Barnabas knows the agony this man and his intended victims are going through and has to stop it. Remember Vicki, advises Julia--Adam kidnapped her once, if anything happens to Barnabas, what will happen to the experiment?
The Robservations doesn't address the entire quote directly and paraphrase much of it but covers all the main points...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Julia - 'Barnabas, you have responsibilities, you MUST face them') was back on April 17th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #662 (1969/1796) - Barnabas - 'Vicki, you MUSTN'T be frightened. I am not dead as you can plainly see.'

From "Robservations 9/25/02 - #662/663 - Barnabas & Yet Another 18th Century Doxy"
We have a new Vicki, one who looks much like Alex Moltke, and even more like future DS star Kate Jackson. Barnabas appears in her cell, touching her hair. She's stunned to see him. He tells her he's come back. That's impossible, you're dead! insists Vicki. He tells her not to be frightened--I'm not dead. Josette told me you had died, she says. Everyone thought so, he says, but I was put under a spell by Angelique. Then you know Angelique was the witch, says Vicki. Yes, I learned soon after we were married, he replies--I planned to tell the authorities, but she stopped me by putting me under this spell. How was the spell broken, she asks. I don't know, he says--I've got to help you now.
The Robservations paraphrase the quote and covers all the main points...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Barnabas - 'I know, and now I MUST go to the village to finish what I started to do') was back on March 24th of 2022.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #821 (1897) - Petofi - 'Alien spirit, depart in peace. You who came unbidden MUST depart unsatisfied.'

From "Robservations 2/21/03 - #821-822 - Petofi Threatens; Magda Escapes"
Aristede puts some sheet music on a very unusual stand.  Someone enters the mill. Aristede asks who is there, but all he hears is a wind that knocks first the music off the stand, then tips over several pieces of furniture.  I'm not afraid, Aristede tells the entity, but when the candles blow out, he calls for Petofi, scared.  Someone is here, says Aristede, but I see no one.  Petofi seems to know who it is, and asks the alien spirit "to depart in peace, depart unsatisfied, before there is nothing left but eternal wandering--return before the grave closes behind you forever," intones Petofi.  The lights comes back on.  Petofi assures Aristede, we will be troubled no more.
Again, the Robservations paraphrases the quote and covers all the main points...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (King Johnny - 'You finally decided that holding out on your people was a little too dangerous. You MUST have placed it there while I was upstairs, didn't you?') was back on November 25th of 2021.  [thankgiving-pumpkin-smash]

And I want to share the capture for this because I just love -

- the way Lela Swift used shadow for the shot!!

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #1038 (1970PT) - Barnabas - 'You did this for me? Thank you, Julia. I'm grateful to you again. Now we MUST find a way to get you back to your own time.'

From "#1038/1039: Robservations 07/28/03: The Redhead With the Grand Tetons"
Julia paces around Barnabas' coffin as it begins to open. She smiles at him. "Barnabas!" she greets him joyously. "So you've found me out!" he says, incensed. No! she says, realizing what he's thinking. He rises from the coffin, promising, it will be the last thing you ever do. No, she protests, holding up her hands defensively--Barnabas, it's me, Julia, I'm dressed this way for a reason! You expect me to believe that? he demands, facing her from the opposite side of the coffin. You must, she says--I was in the room, I waited for the room to change just as you did, I was so afraid for you, I had a terrible premonition that seems to have come true--look, she says, taking hammer and stake in hand, desperate to convince him--Hoffman had them, she was at your coffin--she's dead now. You killed her? asks Barnabas. "She had the stake at your heart, Barnabas," says Julia, as if that explains everything--"she meant to destroy you."
His face changes from anger to gratitude.  He comes to her side and says, tenderly, "You did this for me? Thank you, Julia, I'm, grateful to you again--now we must find a way to get you back to your own time." Do you think I would leave? she objects, no, you need me here, Angelique thinks that I'm HER Hoffman.  Nothing could be more dangerous to you, says Barnabas. I can find out all her plans before she starts them, says Julia.
The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Timothy Stokes - 'You MUST understand that in experiments like this, we are dealing with the completely unknown') was back on February 9th, and the second (Angelexis - 'But I MUST. I can convince him that there's some kind of plot against you') was back on March 9th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #952 (1970) - Julia - 'Now this time I MUST give you the dose that I believe in. As you know before I listened to you, and that's when you aged. But this time, you MUST accept this.'

From "Robservations 5/23/03 - #952-953"
Julia prepares a blood-red injection and warns, this time, Barnabas, you must accept the dosages I decide on--last time, because I listened to you, you aged--this time, you must accept this. She gives Barnabas the injection.  He winces--even one night as this bloodthirsty creature Jeb made me is too long, says Barnabas. Julia takes her bag and the other paraphernalia upstairs.
The Robservations paraphrases the quote, though it gets all the main points well...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Megan - 'No, you MUST have your room now') was back on August 5th of 2021, and the second (Megan - 'It MUST seem strange to the rest of the world-- the woman whose husband was killed and the woman whose husband confessed to the killing living under the same roof') was back on October 26th of 2021.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #1095 (1970) - Barnabas - 'I MUST know why you want that song! Can you see into the past?'

From "#1095/1096: Robservations 09/08/03: Chilling Farewells"
First question, says Carolyn flippantly--where and when did I meet Gerard?  No, says Barnabas, I want to know about the song you sang--where did you find it?  In a book of songs, she says. But you've never been interested in music that much, he says. I didn't think so either, she says, but I found the song in a book and I liked it. Enough to have an impromptu concert? asks Julia. I overheard you reading from Quentin's diary that there was a concert this day in 1839, says Carolyn--I thought it would be amusing!  Have you ever heard of Pansy Faye? asks Barn.  No, says Carolyn, but I love the name--should I know her? The old Carolyn wouldn't, says Barn, but the new one, with second sight, would. You don't believe that either? she asks. It's difficult to believe that anyone with second sight, a talent like that, could get it that quickly, remarks Barnabas. Perhaps I've always had it, she says, and simply didn't realize it. Could you demonstrate this talent for us, asks Barn, or do you p[refer to keep it a secret?  It's no secret, she says. Prove it, he challenges. I don't have to! she insists--I can see the past, it's as real to me as this day here. You've always been willing to help us, he says, are you now?--I must know why you want that song--can you see into the past?--if you can, you can help us--where did you learn that song?--in some other time--some other life?  I think so, replies Carolyn, smiling, yes. Where? asks Barnabas, think!--in this room, Carolyn?
The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Barnabas - 'But a room with a toy and a carousel. Now you MUST have seen it') was back on May 20th of 2021, and the second (David - 'I know...I know. I MUST follow') was back on April 18th of 2023.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Today's quote:
Ep #1162 (1840) - Lamar - 'It's not enough to punish you for murder. You MUST be destroyed as the warlock you are.'

From "#1161/1162: Robservations 11/10/03: Another Witchly Death"
A horrified Trask finds Quentin kneeling over Mildred Ward's dead body.  I didn't do anything, says Quentin hastily--she must have had a heart attack.  You'll pay for this death, too, promises Trask, examining the body.  I didn't touch her! protests Quentin.  This is witchcraft, says Trask, the world will soon know it!--not enough to punish you for murder
--you must be destroyed as the warlock you are!
The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And yes, Quentin does indeed say that Mildred "must have had a heart attack" - so that may show up in some future installment of the slideshow...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Daphne's Voice - 'You MUST, you MUST. You want to go through with it. You love him. You love him so much. When you see him, run to his arms, run to his arms!') was back on February 11th, and the second (Desmond - 'Witchcraft-- that's ridiculous. There MUST be a definite cause of death') was back on March 20th.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #1233 (1841PT) - Melanie - (reading) '‘These are for Melanie-- when she grows up.’ This MUST have been written by my mother.'

From "#1232/1233: Robservations 01/07/04: Daphne Falls Ill"
Kendrick pulls out a large desk drawer and searches inside.  The desk is deeper than the drawer, he says.  You think there's something behind the drawer? asks Melanie.  That's what I'm going to find out, he says.  He finds a compartment with something inside.  It's a wooden box, with a metal label that says "Melanie" on it.  Inside is a blue lace handkerchief, a brooch, a bracelet and a letter--"These are for Melanie, when she grows up," it says.
This must have been written by my mother, says Melanie.
The Robservations references the quote perfectly..

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Bramwell - 'Dr. Fletcher suggested that we get someone in for consultation, but he didn't hold out much hope--we MUSTN'T fool ourselves') was back on October 7th of 2020, and the second (Catherine - 'The way I've treated her since she married you-- she MUST think I hate her by now') was back on December 15th of 2022.
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #122 (1966) - Matthew - 'That's it. That's right. It was a dream. MUSTA been. No one ever saw or heard such things-- no man in his right mind.'

From "#0121/0122: Robservations 08/14/01: Matthew on the Brink"
Voices and those lights comin' off the painting! he rants--the paintin' of Josette Collins. You're tired--you don't know what you're saying, Vicki tells him. I'll show you when I know what I'm saying, he warns, taking a knife from his pocket. No, she whimpers. He unties her bonds. Come on, he orders, come with me. He drags her out into the drawing room and points to the portrait--there was a light, he says, comin' out of that picture. There's no light there now, says Vicki. I didn't just imagine it, says Matthew, it was real, and so were the voices--you heard them? he asks her, shaking her, didn't ya? Yes, she says, I heard them. No, he says, you didn't, you think I imagined it all--you think I'm...goin' crazy.
No, says Vicki quickly, I don't think anything. I didn't imagine it! he wails, but when I saw and heard doesn't exist, I know that. He makes a helpless gesture with his hands. I tell you there is a very simple explanation, she says, you were half asleep while you were walking around and you dreamt it all. That's it, agrees Matthew, that's right--it was a dream, must have been--no man ever saw or heard such things!--no man in his right mind. They both look up at Josette's portrait.
The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly..

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Matthew - 'Voices callin' ta me--you heard 'em, you MUST of!') was back on May 1st of 2020, and the second (Carolyn- 'You MUST be out of your mind') was back on October 5th of 2021.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #284 (1967) - Julia - 'You know as well as I do that they MUSTN'T even know that Maggie is still alive.'

From "#0283/0284: Robservations 12/13/01: Julia Gets a Glimmer"
Dave, learning that Julia took Maggie to the cemetery against his orders, is furious. Julia calms him down and asks him to introduce her to the Collins family as an amateur genealogist.
Though Dave feels the family will cooperate if told the truth, Julia insists they operate under secrecy.
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote. However, it comes up after Dr. Woodard says the Collinses would cooperate if they knew Julia was trying to help Maggie...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Maggie - 'Yes, I MUST hide') was back on February 3rd.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #430 (1796) - Barnabas - 'My lovely Josette, buried in the earth, lost forever. I cannot lose her. Josette, you MUST return to me. You MUST. You MUST. You MUST.'

From "#0429/0430: Robservations 04/05/02: Come Back to Me!"
The church bells mournfully toll for Josette, and Ben escorts Natalie to the carriage.
For some unknown reason the Robservations doesn't summarize the scene with Barnabas after that, but on the other hand the AOL Update did when Ep #430 was shown as the first ep on the Sci-Fi Channel on February 5th of 1996:

Quote from: KricketW
In the mausoleum, Barnabas is still whining about his Josette being buried and lost forever. She must return to him!

And this is the fourth quote from this ep. The first (Abigail - 'Listen to that. It's going to storm. We MUST get home before the storm starts') was back on July 4th of 2021, the second (Josette - 'You forced me to come back. Brought me here against my will. But I MUST return to my grave') was back on July 15th of 2021, and the third (Josette - 'You MUST!') was back on February 18th of 2024.

So all that means that Ep #430 has joined the club with Eps #2, #3, #42, #44, #50, #52, #54, #66, #99, #106, #114, #119, #133, #158, #170, #195, #208, #211, #212, #271, #275, #281, #296, #300, #308, #315, #340, #365, #367, #377, #384, #405, #410, #426, #449, #450, #462, #466, #479, #481, #503, #506, #518, #528, #534, #543, #544, #545, #550, #555, #556, #608, #609, #629, #639, #643, #644, #646, #647, #651, #655, #678, #709, #717, #727, #733, #734, #742, #743, #746, #750, #763, #764, #796, #883, #884, #886, #889, #915, #926, #975, #976, #977, #993, #1006, #1011, #1014, #1025, #1057, #1064, #1081, #1111, #1125, #1126, #1127, #1128, #1150, #1197, #1199, #1206, #1218, #1222, #1223, #1232 and #1245. However, not only recall that Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #106, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #426, #449, #466, #506, #543, #544, #550, #556, #609, #629, #639, #646, #655, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197, #1218 & #1232. have five quotes, but Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #550, #646, #709, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes, and even more of a milestone, Ep #550 has seven!!

And I have it on very good authority that writer Ron Sproat really went wild with the "MUST" lines in this ep, so it's likely we'll see MANY...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #566 (1968) - Julia - 'MUST'VE come from the other direction.'

From "Robservations 7/18/02 - #566/567 - Barnabas Learns the Truth"
Barnabas enters Collinwood. Julia comes in, surprised to see him. He comments that he thought her too sick to go out, and she says she just went for a walk right outside. He's looking at her very closely. She's touching her blue scarf, adjusting it, and he wonders why he didn't see her, since he just arrived--she must have come through the woods. She turns away from his scrutiny, saying she's tired and must go to bed. He stops her--she has to answer some questions first. Not now, she protests. Yes, now! He asks if she was walking in the woods. She points out that it's ridiculous for her to walk alone in the woods at night.
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote. However, it comes up right after Barnabas questions why he didn't see Julia in the woods...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Tom - 'You know now you MUST come to me here every night when I call to you') was back on May 5th of 2020, and the second (Willie - 'Wha...I guess she MUST of changed her mind') was back on June 30th of 2021.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #822 (1897) - Amanda - 'No, I MUST think.'

From "Robservations 2/21/03 - #821-822 - Petofi Threatens; Magda Escapes"
I promise to do anything you suggest, says Amanda--you're my only hope!
He takes her hands in his--"My dear child," he says, staring into her eyes, lust very obviously on his mind.  He steps away from her--you  need more personal attention than you've been getting, he says, so when you feel moments of weakness, you will have my strength to help fight them.  Yes, she says, playing the helpless woman to the hilt.  I think you should move into Collinwood, says Trask.  Move here? she asks.  In these secluded halls, perhaps you will find the inner tranquility we all need, he says.  Would it seem proper? she asks--if I came to live here, it might be misinterpreted.  Only by those whose minds dwell on evil, responds Trask.  You've told me so often evil in the eye of beholder often becomes fact, Amanda reminds him.  I might have said that, agrees Trask, but not specifically regarding this.  He touches her shoulder--you must consider herself ill, he says.  But I must also consider that you have a wife who is also ill, she says (her face conveys barely-controlled distaste).  My wife would be the first to tell me to do my duty, he says, and you are my duty--I will send a carriage for you this afternoon.  I must think, she protests.  But when you came to me, you promised to follow my recommendations, he says.  Within reason, she reminds him.  What could be more within reason than my saving you from yourself? he asks.  "But are you, sir?" she asks, "Or are you simply offering me new temptations?"
The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Gregory - 'The torments that we MUST live through') was back on November 29th of 2021.
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #953 (1970) - Nicholas - 'No! We MUST destroy Barnabas Collins.'

From "Robservations 5/23/03 - #952-953"
Jeb and Nicholas are seated in the coach house.  I only did what I had to do, insists Jeb. The state will hang Philip, says Blair--you sacrificed one of us--another game you were playing just as you were when you brought that sheriff back to life--if his state can be called that--every move unwise, and the most unwise was Barnabas Collins--you made him a vampire, made him totally useless to us--a shabby performance indeed, and a dangerous one--he will be after you and relentless about it!  I will take care of him, promises Jeb. NO!!!! bellows Nicholas--we must destroy Barnabas Collins, he says, his face shaking--now, Jebez, we have come to your most serious deviation--you never want to change into your Leviathan form again, do you? Jeb looks nervous. You want to be human, accuses Nicholas, which for a Leviathan is the greatest sin.  Jeb's eyes reveal that Nicholas' accusations are true.  Give me the box, commands Nicholas--do you think I'm going to let you stand in the way of the return of the Leviathans?

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Jeb - 'Staring at me--gloating! He's gonna tell her! ... We're gonna burn it--we MUST burn the body!') was back on August 21st of 2021.
