If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
DS 2012: (-1966: Ep #72) - Barnabas - 'Fifteen - and no husband! You MUST put those birthing hips to good use at once, lest your womb shrivel up and die.'

From the DS 2012 script:
                                                 CUT TO;

INT. COLLINWOOD MANOR (CAROLYN'S ROOM) - DAY

Barnabas sits politely on Carolyn's frilly bed. His
great-great-great grand-niece sits beside him -- as far
away as the edge of the bed will allow.

                        CAROLYN
          I don't feel comfortable talking
          to you about this.

                        BARNABAS
I simply seek a bit advice in the
art of courting a woman of this ti
                        (almost said "time")
"Land." Of this land. After all,
who better than a woman of your
age -- what is your age, if I may?

                        CAROLYN
          Fifteen.

                        BARNABAS

Who better than a woman of fifteen
          to --
                        {stops cold)
My Lord, fifteen and no husband?
We must put those birthing hips to
good use before your womb shrivels
          and dies!

She stares him down -- are you out of your mind?

                        BARNABAS (CONT’D)
A joke, my dear -- a bit of fun!
David tells me women these days
are commoniy married as late as
          twenty; even twenty-one. You
          have time yet for dalliances.

                        CAROLYN
                        (a beat, then)
          You're weird.

                        BARNABAS
We're all a bit queer darling.
It's nothing to be ashamed of.

He whispers to her -- almost sounding like a schoolgirl:

                        BARNABAS (CONT'D)
Do you think me too...queer for a
          woman of this land?

                        CAROLYN
          You obviously mean Vicky.

                        BARNABAS
                        (imagining)
She has the most fertile birthing
          hips...

                        CAROLYN
And yes, you're way too weird.

                        BARNABAS
                        (taking it to heart)
          Do you really think so?

                        CAROLYN
Yeah. You're all stiff and proper
          and old fashioned.

                        BARNABAS
          And Victoria? She isn't...proper?

                        CAROLYN
She likes to pretend she's Disco,
          but she's a Carpenters kind've
          chick, for sure.

                        BARNABAS
I had no idea she was woodworker
          by trade.

                        CAROLYN
          The Carpenters are musicians,
          stupid.

                        BARNABAS
Ah! Music! Yes, I'm rather fond
of the music of the day.

Barnabas breaks into an achingly soft 4 capella rendition
of The Steve Miller Band's "The Joker."

                        BARNABAS (CONT'D)
          For I am a picker, I am a grinner,
          I am a lover, and I am a sinner --
Playing my music in the sun...
                        (a beat, then}
If only Shakespeare had been as
          eloquent...

                        CAROLYN
Listen -- if you want to get down
with her, you've got to change up
          your approach. You've gotta drop
          the whole, weird swinging London
thing and spend some time around
          normal people...

We MOVE TOWARD Barnabas; the sound of NIGHT WOODS
growing louder by the second...

And the excerpt is from the November 30, 2010 version of the script, which is not the exact version that was ultimately shot. As such some of the directions, descriptions and dialogue are different in the excerpt. However, the way the quote is delivered in the film is very close to the way it appears in the excerpt...

And just a reminder, we've seen notations like "DS 2012: (-1966: Ep #72)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from 1966's Ep #72 but that ep doesn't have any "must" lines to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means Ep #72 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, #24, #39, #47, #86, #87, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #145, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #242, #272, #478, #659, #667, #690, #848, #904, #960, #1008 and #1087 as ones without any "must" lines.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
DS 1991 Ep #11 (-1966: Ep #49) - Natalie - 'Well, if we are to protect Josette, we MUST do it in the next two nights.'

From SHADOWS IN THE '90s: The Dark Shadows Concordance 1991 - PLOT SUMMARIES - EPISODE ELEVEN:
JOSETTE'S ROOM:  Josette is asleep.  Natalie fixes
a cross above Josette's bed and directs Andre to put
another in the window.  Peter joins them and asks
about the crosses. Natalie takes him into the next room
and explains about vampires.  Peter, at first skeptical,
admits Victoria believes the same thing.  Natalie insists
they must take every precaution to protect Josette.

The summary doesn't reference the quote directly but it does reference its circumstances...

And one thing that the summary doesn't mention is that when Peter arrives at Josette's room, Joshua is with him. And if the look on Joshua face at seeing the crosses could have killed, everyone in the room would have been dead.  [b003]

And as I've done previously when it comes to the '91 Series, I used a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- because even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release does (to be added later) -

- also like the VHS release, it has the correct aspect ratio, plus it even tends to show a bit more of the frame and it's clearer than the VHS.

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "DS 1991 Ep #11 (-1966: Ep #49)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a Vicki's Arrival-Burke's Revenge-Matthew Morgan-Introducing Josette's Ep #49 but that ep doesn't have any "must" lines to quote from. So, with that in mind, it means Ep #49 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, #24, #39, #47, #72, #86, #87, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #145, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #242, #272, #478, #659, #667, #690, #848, #904, #960, #1008 and #1087 as ones without any "must" lines.

[pointing-up]  And once again it's a case that I don't currently have access to my DS 1991 VHS tapes or a video copy of Ep #11 (I do have such copies of some of the other eps), so that's why the screen capture from that scene from Ep #11 isn't currently displaying. But as soon as I get access to the tape again and can take the screen capture, it will be posted as well as a notice that it has been added...

For those who may have missed all of today's quotes because of whatever weirdness was happening again, here they are:

2020:

Ep #1218 (1841PT) - Josette - You MUST answer that as honestly as you
know how.'

2021:

Ep #555 (1968) - Nicholas - 'So you MUSTN'T be afraid to tell me the truth.'

2022:

Ep #545 (1968) - Carolyn - 'But we MUST be more careful.'

2023:

Ep #806 (1897) - Gregory - 'An evil force has aroused your spirit against
me. You MUST believe that, Minerva. You MUST believe that!'

2024:

Ep #14 (1966) - Carolyn - 'Oh, that MUST be Joe.'

2025:

DS 1991 Ep #11 (-1966: Ep #49) - Natalie - 'Well, if we are to
protect Josette, we MUST do it in the next two nights.'

And if those screen captures/quotes are still up but you're not seeing them correctly, that means you probably need to clear your browser's cache...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
hoDS: Scene #86 (-1966/67) - Barnabas - 'You MUST. ... You're as beautiful as she.'

From DC's hoDS script:
He crosses to a portrait on the other side of the room.

                              BARNABAS
                       Naomi Collins, isn't it?

                              LIZ
                       Yes. The first Barnabas's mother.

From his pocket, he takes a small velvet box.

                              BARNABAS
I so hoped there would be someone
                       like you to wear this.

       He hands it to Liz.

                              LIZ
                       Why, thank you.

                              CAROLYN
                       What is it, Mother?

        She opens it, is astonished.

                              LIZ
Look at this. Isn't it beautiful?

She holds up the necklace.  It is the same one that Naomi
        wears in the portrait.

                              CAROLYN
I've never seen anything like it.

                                                              CONTINUED

Legend had it they were buried in
                   the revolutionary War and never
                   found again.

                             BARNABAS
Legend is so much more romantic than
reality.  Naomi gave them to my ancestor when
he left Collinwood.  They were his share of the
                   estate.

                             CAROLYN
Mother, you must wear them .

                             ROGER
I remember reading she gave him the
                   Old House too.

                             BARNABAS
I'm so looking forward to seeing it.
The first Barnabas wrote a fascinating
memoir about his life there.  I've always
dreamed of living in that house.

                             LIZ
It's in shocking condition we've not kept
                   it up, I'm afraid.

                             ROGER
With work, it could be made livable again.
Why don't we take you through it?

Carolyn has fastened the necklace around Liz's neck.  She looks down at it.

                             LIZ
I don't really know how I can accept this.

                             BARNABAS
(As he takes her hand Carolyn sees the ring)
You must.  You are as beautiful as she.

And while the script has "You are as," what Barnabas actually says in the film is "You're as"...

And another bit of business is that I used a screen capture from the VHS -

- so that it would be in keeping with the dimensions of the screen captures from the original show, but this is what the Blu-ray looks like -

And apparently there was, or perhaps still is an alternate 4X3 print of hoDS that, unlike the VHS, shows more of the frame at the top but less on the sides and bottom, and it was shown as the July 14, 1985 installment of Elvira's Movie Macabre. So, I'm adding a screen capture from it of Scene 86 to this post:

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "hoDS: Scene #86 (-1966/67)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a The Return of Laura ep, but there aren't any more eps from that period that haven't been quoted from, so an alternate version of DS is being used instead. In this case that alternate version is hoDS and a quote from its Scene 86 is being used.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #280 (1967) - Liz - 'So MUST I. Roger, you're being absurd.'

From "#0279/0280: Robservations 12/11/01: Barnabas' Swinging Party"
The chapel bell rings 11 PM, Liz feels a phantom hand touch her shoulder, the candles flicker and Roger suggests the presence of a ghost--and says, "Let's have a seance!" Barnabas protests, Roger persists, even accusing Barn of being afraid. Liz advises Barnabas to go along, because Roger will not let up.

The Robservations falls in the period where there's little detail and, thus, the quote isn't directly referenced, but the circumstances are as Liz' quote is a direct response to Barnabas' protest...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #424 (1796) - Millicent - 'Don't you understand? If Suki was married, then I MUST write another letter to her husband --'

From "#0423/0424: Robservations 04/02/02: Au Revoir, Suki!"
Collinwood drawing room - Millicent shows Nathan a box filled with papers she found amongst Suki's belongings and tells him of her plans for them.  He stops her search through the box, hesitates, then makes up an address for Suki's aunt--#7 Franklin Lane.  She writes that down using a quill pen, and over his protests, continues looking through the box, where she finds a wedding license.  I didn't know Suki was married! Says Millicent.  Nathan tries to take the certificate out of her hand.  If Suki was married, Ill have to write another letter! Insists Millicent.
Then Millicent reads the marriage license in its entirety;

The Robservations falls in the period where there's little detail and the quote is paraphrased (without using "must" - SHAMEFUL), but the circumstances are covered...
