If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
DS 1991 Ep #9 (-1966: Ep #86) - Maggie - ' Sara, you MUST come and help us now. Bring Victoria back to her empty chair. Bring her back!'

From SHADOWS IN THE '90s: The Dark Shadows Concordance 1991 - PLOT SUMMARIES - EPISODE NINE
DRAWING ROOM: It is storming.  Roger, Maggie, Bar-
nabas, Elizabeth, Julia and Carolyn take their places around
the candlelit table.  Roger is disbelieving they're doing this
again, after what happened the last time - "All I have to say is
if I leave the table, I hope I end up in 15th century Florence."
Maggie reminds them they have no way of predicting what
will happen.  Barnabas says they're aware of that - begin.  Mag-
gie starts the seance.  She cautions everyone not to break the
circle, then calls to Sara Collins, begging for her help and aid
in bringing Victoria back.  Sara speaks through Maggie, "You
must stop before it's too late."  A window blows violently
open.  Victoria's empty chair catches fire.  Julia, seated next to
it, shudders and chokes.  They rush to her and she gasps, "I feel
as if something's trying to get inside of me."  She becomes cal-
mer.  Elizabeth wants to take her upstairs. Maggie assures her,
"Whatever it was, you were too strong for it."  They help her
out.

The summary doesn't reference the quote directly but it does reference its circumstances. Plus, the scene doesn't take place in the drawing room, it takes place in the foyer/grand hall - and it's not a window that blows open but the front doors in the vestibule. And, even though the summary only covers a small portion of it, the "must" line that Sara speaks through Maggie does indeed appear as part of the scene and will quite possibly show up in a future installment of the slideshow...

And as I've done previously when it comes to the '91 Series, I used a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- because even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release does -

- also like the VHS release, it has the correct aspect ratio, plus it even tends to show a bit more of the frame and it's clearer than the VHS.

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "DS 1991 Ep #9 (-1966: Ep #86)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from 1966 Ep #86, but because there were no "must" lines in that ep, an alternate version of DS is being used instead. In this case that alternate version is the '91 DS and a quote from its Ep #9 is being used.

I just noticed that all the screen caps/quotes for today except for the latest are all screwed up. I have no idea how that happened. But I will find out...

It's fixed - but I still have no idea how it happened. But we always say the forum is haunted. And this is certainly the month for it...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
hoDS: Scene #128 (-1966: Ep #47) - Julia - 'Elizabeth, please, you MUST listen to what Eliot has to say.'

From DC's hoDS script:
(Somehow Scene 128 has already started but the original start to it was changed and/or dropped due to a 3/13/70 rewrite of Scene 127.)

128    CONTD                                       CONTD 128

                            ROGER
                     (taking charge)
Eliot, I think it is shocking
                that you're willing to take
                seriously the hallucinations of
a very upset child!  We are not
                going anywhere!

                            STOKES
I warn you this must be taken
                seriously.

                            TODD  X TO S
                Professor, Carolyn is dead.'

                            STOKES
She is dead -- and yet she is
                alive.

Liz now turns from the window and crosses to Stokes.
There is an indication of rising anger in her tone as
       she speaks.

                             LIZ
Eliot, if I didn't know you to be
a man of character and integrity
I'd ask you to leave this house now!

                             STOKES

I'm sorry, but we're not going
                to discuss this any further
tonight or at any future time!

       Julia now crosses to Elizabeth.

                             JULIA
                Elizabeth, I think you should
listen to what Eliot has to say.

                             JULIA (Contd)
                      (she turns to Stokes)
                 You must tell them.

       They all look at Stokes.
He  holds  him  til  the  pan  is  completed
                             STOKES
                 I believe Carolyn was destroyed
by a vampire.  And tonight she
walks as one of the living dead.

       There is general stunned shock.

                             TODD
                      (mockingly)
Because one who dies the victim
of a vampire returns as a vampire.

                             STOKES  he   looks  at  LIZ
                 That is absolutely right, Todd.

Liz gives Stokes a contemptuous look and storms out of
the room.  Roger looks at Stokes.  x  to the  back of  Todd's
          chair
                             ROGER
You have hurt my sister very deeply.
I hope you realize that, Eliot!
                        ELIZABETH    !   please  wait
He follows her.    I  want  to  talk  to  you

                             TODD
I respect you enough to believe
                 almost anything you say, Professor.
But the things I've heard tonight --
                      (shaking his head)
I don't know how you could expect
any sane human being to believe
                 them.

       He starts to leave.

                             STOKES
If you're leaving the house, Todd,
I must warn you to be careful.

                             TODD TURNS TO HIM
                 Of what?!

                             STOKES
                 Because of your particular rela-
tionship with Carolyn, you are the
person she is most likely to seek
                 out.

128    CONTD (3)                                (3) CONTD 128

Todd stares at him incredulously and then leaves.

And the script has the quote very close to how it's said in the film - though without the "must." And as you can tell many other things about how the scene was scripted were changed during shooting.

And as with other hoDS screen captures, I used one taken from the VHS -

- so that it would be in keeping with the dimensions of the screen captures from the original show, but this is what the Blu-ray looks like -

- and apparently, as I've said before, there was, or perhaps still is an alternate 4X3 print of hoDS that, unlike the VHS, shows more of the frame at the top but less on the sides and bottom, and it was shown as the July 14, 1985 installment of Elvira's Movie Macabre. Here's a screen capture from Scene 128:

And Ep #47 now joins Eps #1, #5, #8, #12, #13, #22, #24, #39, #86, #87, #120, #124, #136, #138, #139, #141, #145, #189, #198, #210, #217, #219, #223, #242, #272, #478, #659, #667, #690, #904, #960, #1008 and #1087 as ones without any "must" lines.

And Eps #86 and #47 are the only ones without any "must" lines this month.

I forgot to mention yesterday that one other scripted "MUST" line in Scene 128 does indeed appear in the film, so it may come up in the slideshow one day...

I finally got around to adding screen captures from Elvira's Movie Macabre's showing of hoDS to the posts I'd made before I'd discovered the video of that showing. Below are small versions of those captures as well as links to the posts the larger versions now appear in:

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #278 (1967) - Vicki - 'But I seriously doubt that wearing her dress and being in her house will be the same thing as being her. Although I MUST say I like the idea.'

From "#0277/0278: Robservations 12/10/01: Party Hearty, Barnabas!"
Vicki and Barnabas enter Josette's room, and both sense that another presence is there with them. Nevertheless, they begin going through the clothing. Barnabas insists that Vicki wear the white gown that Josette wears in her portrait.
You're the most gallant man I've ever met, pronounces Vicki, "Sometimes, I think you belong to a completely different time than ours." (Bingo, Vic!) They sorts through other items previously worn by Sarah, sister of the original Barnabas, Millicent and Joshua. Barnabas is especially touched when he finds one of Sarah's little dresses; it's clear Barnabas loved his sister very much. He speaks of Vicki "becoming Josette" the night of the party, and when Vicki says the loves the idea, his eyes gleam with pleasure.

The Robservations reference the circumstances of the quote though not the quote itself - and it also says that Vicki "loves the idea" of being Josette by wearing her dress and being in her house, but Vicki actually says, "I like the idea"...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #559 (1968) - Angelique - 'He MUST - he MUST love her very much.'

From "Robservations 7/12/02 - #558/559 - Nicholas' Romantic Designs"
Nicholas preens, admiring his reflection in the mirror. Angelique drifts in and asks him if he's admiring himself again. He says sure--he has every reason to. Do you? she asks. Yes, all my plans are working out perfectly, he boasts. She is surprised to hear Barn has agreed to another experiment for Vicki's freedom, and comments that her former husband must love Vicki very much. That must be most distressing, teases Nicholas, and if Barnabas had loved her half as much, she wouldn't be where she is today.

The Robservations reference the circumstances of the quote though not quite the quote itself...

And Nicholas does indeed comment about how Barnabas loving Vicki very much must be most distressing to Angelique, so that "must" line may very well appear as a future entry in the slideshow.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #810 (1897) - Mrs. Fillmore - 'You MUST come at once. It's Lenore.'

From "Robservations 2/13/03 - #809-810 - A Mother Comes to Help"
Quentin answers a frantic knock at the door--it's Mrs. Fillmore. What are you doing here? he asks. You must come, says Mrs. Fillmore, it's Lenore--this morning she was fine, but she developed a high fever, similar to when your little boy fell sick. What did the doctor say? asks Quentin He's with her now, says Mrs. Fillmore.
Go back, says Quentin, I'm going to try and find someone who can help--hurry, he says. She leaves.

The Robservations reference the quote almost perfectly...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #850 (1897) - Gregory - 'Amanda, surely you MUST face the fact that Quentin is, is uncapable (sic) of, of compassion, of morality. Amanda, you MUST never speak to him again.'

From "Robservations 3/13/03 - #850-851 - Amanda Trashes Trask; Angelique Threatens"
Understand me, she says, I came to you with a lie, a trick, I wanted you to fall in love with me--it was cheap, contemptible, and I hated myself--but I saw the way you looked at me and thought, he deserves it! (Go, girl!)--whatever he gets, he deserves! I looked at you with acceptance, forgiveness! he insists. She laughs--you're a hypocrite, and I haven't time to listen to your lies! MY LIES?! he cries. You live them! she says. I live to help others! he yells--I want to save you from misery and sin!--don't you realize the path down which Quentin will lead you--do you believe what he's told you? Yes, she says, I do. Do you know where he is? asks Trask.  Yes, he's leaving Collinwood to meet me, she replies. Oh, indeed, says Trask, is he bringing Angelique with him?--when I left Collinwood, they were together in the drawing room--laughing!--were they laughing about you? he asks. I don't believe it, she says. I overheard them making their plans for the evening, says Trask.  Not true, says Amanda.  The carriage was waiting outside, says Trask. "To pick him up at the station," says Amanda. No, says Trask, no, to take them to the Inn, where they are having dinner tonight!--I'm not telling you this because I enjoy it (yeah, right!)--you have hurt me, but I won't be guilty of trying to repay in kind--surely you must face the fact that Quentin is incapable of compassion or morality! He forces her to face him and says, you must never speak to Quentin again. "Get out!" she orders. My dear, he says, you must control yourself, I am your only friend.
I never want to see you again! she screams at him--"Get out!" Trask looks stunned.

The Robservations reference the quote almost perfectly - though instead of the incorrect "uncapable" (no such word) it uses the correct "incapable"...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #592 (1968) - Julia - 'You can't do that, Adam, she's got to lie here, she MUST lie quietly. Any disturbance will be very bad for her!'

From "Robservations 8/6/02 - #592/593 - Astonishing Recovery"
Adam gets angry--it isn't over, his mate isn't alive yet!
Julia tells Barnabas there's no point in further stalling--they had to stop because the experiment wasn't working. Adam accuses them of failure. Barnabas says Carolyn was in danger, that's why they stopped. Adam warned them that if something has happened to Carolyn. . .--she isn't breathing. It's faint, but she's breathing, Julia assures him, and she will do everything to make sure she recovers. Adam wants to take Carolyn upstairs, but Julia warns him he can't. Adam wants to take her where it's warm, but Barnabas reminds him he isn't a doctor

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does its circumstances...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #335 (1967) - David - 'Sarah, well, all I can say is Burke and Dr. Woodard MUST think I'm crazy now.'

From "#0335/0336: Robservations 01/30/02: Woodard on the Scent"
David gazes miserably into the crystal ball, trying to locate Sarah. He knows she's mad at him, but hell, he's pissed at her, too! Everyone thinks he's crazy now! He holds the crystal and begins singing London Bridge, but it isn't until he buries his head, despairing, into his bedclothes that she appears to him. She admits she knew the secret door wouldn't open, that "somebody" saw to it (but she won't say who).

The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does its circumstances - however it screws up the timeline of when the quote is delivered because it isn't until after Sarah comes to David...

Ep #811 (1897) - Edward(as his true self) - 'One MUST always do the right thing. It takes the right person to do the right thing. When the wrong person does the right thing, it's wrong.'

From "Robservations 2/14/03 - #811-812 - Miss Harris Inflames Trask's Loins"
Quentin sits listening to his music, a drink at hand, butts in the ashtray.  He's sleeping on the sofa in the drawing room.  The bottle is mostly empty.  Quentin dreams. ... Edward appears and says, one must always do the right thing--it takes the right person to do the right things, says Edward--when the wrong person does the right thing, it's wrong.  He helps Quentin on with his suit jacket, asking, do you follow me?  Something is the matter, says Edward--it's almost dinnertime and you aren't dressed.  I only care about my daughter, says Quentin.  She isn't the right kind of daughter, says Edward--don't waste time thinking of her, not when it's so late, almost dinnertime. . . handsome, he praises Quentin

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #99 (1966) - Burke - 'I don't understand. She was willing to ride with me a half hour before we were supposed to leave, then she changed her mind. If I frightened her, it MUST have happened in that half hour.'

From "#0099/0100: Robservations 07/31/01: Pen-Man-Ship"
you'd better keep your eye on and watch out for that Miss Winters--I overheard her this morning telling Carolyn--came out and practically said she was afraid of you.
Why should she say that? asks Burke. I don't know, says Sarah, but it has something to do with a trip to Bangor. That's ridiculous, he says, I gave her no reason in the world to be afraid of me. I don't know, says Sarah, that's what I overheard, she said she was afraid--I couldn't tell you why. A strange thing did happen, says Burke, one minute she was going to ride back to Collinsport with me, and next she decided to stay in Bangor overnight--I thought it odd at the time. She didn't stay in Bangor overnight--she called Roger Collins to come get her that night, and he did. Roger? asks Burke, stupefied--she called Roger?--I don't understand--she was willing to ride with me a half hour before we were supposed to leave, then she changed her mind--if I frightened her, it must have happened in that half hour--I spent most of the time in a business meeting and didn't speak to her, except to tell her we were going to leave--it doesn't make any sense at all!

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the fourth quote from this ep. The first (Burke - 'No one MUST know there's ever been any connection between you and me') was back on April 20th of 2020, the second (Ezra Hearne - 'We're not stupid, at least not as stupid as you MUST think') was back on June 2nd of 2023, and the third (Mrs. Johnson - 'And... and you think what I heard MUST have come from another room?') was back on September 13th. So all that means that Ep #99 has joined the club with Eps #2, #3, #42, #44, #50, #52, #54, #66, #106, #119, #133, #158, #195, #208, #211, #212, #271, #296, #300, #308, #315, #340, #365, #367, #377, #384, #405, #410, #426, #449, #450, #462, #466, #479, #481, #503, #506, #518, #528, #534, #543, #544, #545, #550, #555, #608, #609, #629, #639, #643, #644, #646, #647, #651, #655, #678, #709, #717, #727, #734, #742, #743, #746, #750, #763, #764, #796, #883, #884, #886, #889, #915, #926, #975, #976, #977, #993, #1006, #1011, #1014, #1025, #1057, #1064, #1081, #1111, #1125, #1126, #1127, #1128, #1150, #1197, #1199, #1206, #1218, #1222, #1223 and #1232. However, not only recall that Eps #42, #44, #52, #66, #133, #208, #211, #300, #367, #377, #384, #449, #466, #543, #544, #550, #609, #629, #639, #646, #655, #678, #709, #727, #734, #742, #746, #915, #977, #993, #1057, #1111, #1197 & #1218. have five quotes, but Eps #66, #377, #384, #449, #550, #646, #727, #915 & #993 have six quotes, and even more of a milestone, Ep #550 has seven!!

Re: Everyone In Collinsport's Favorite Word Slideshow

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #169 (1967) - Alexandra Moltke Voiceover - 'My name is Victoria Winters. A dark, unseen force exists in the shadows of Collinwood-- a force that many are trying to bring into the light. To do this, at least one member of the Collins family MUST live through a night of terror.'

This time the slideshow goes where it's only gone seven times before: using an opening voiceover. And as has been the case in the past, the graphic -

- was chosen from the exact moment when "must" comes up in the voiceover.

And Ep #169 is this month's first example where Midnite serendipitously happened upon an ep that hadn't been quoted from before.
