If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #820 (1897) - Tim - 'Amanda, you MUSTN'T leave me now. I...I need you.'

From "Robservations #819-820"
Amanda, in her room, packs a suitcase.  Tim comes in--what are you doing? he asks.  Leaving, she says flatly.  And you weren't going to tell me? demands Tim.  you don't own me, and can't keep me here, she insists.  I was counting on you to help me, says Tim, just a few more visits to Trask.  That's too much, she says, I can't stand that pompous idiot.  But he's hooked, Tim says, don't spoil it for him.  You don't tell me anything, bitches Amanda--I don't know what your plans for Trask are.  I'll tell you when the time has come, says Tim.  The time HAS come, says Amanda--I'm sick of hearing that, too.
You can't leave me now, says Tim, I need you.  He touches her shoulders intimately.  It would be different if you needed me yourself, but you're just using me, she says.  And paying you well, he reminds her.
The Robservations paraphrases and doesn't use "MUST" - shameful!!...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Petofi - 'I hope your brethren will not be too intemperate when they finally catch up with you. I have a certain fondness for you, uh, but you MUST GO now') was back on January 26th of 2021.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow (which kicked off its 7th year - and they said it would never last years [easter_wink]), then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #702 (1897[-1841PT]) - Barnabas - 'There are many things I MUST learn before morning-- many things I MUST do!'

From "Robservations 10/24/02 - #702/703 - Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves"
He wonders how Barnabas even knows about Beth and Quentin. The trick of time, says Barnabas. Confused, Sandor says there is only one time--now. There are many times, explains Barnabas, you only have to find them. Barnabas orders the reluctant Sandor to take him home to where he lives. Sandor argues at first, but Barnabas reminds him he's a gypsy, and he knows what will happen to him if he doesn't. It's near 10, says Sandor. Barnabas tells him there are many things he must do and learn before morning. "Come," he commands Sandor, and they exit the tomb.
The Robservations paraphrases and at least it uses one "MUST"!!...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Barnabas - 'I have no time for your questions-- you MUST answer mine!') was back on June 2nd of 2021, and the second (Magda - 'What MUST be') was back on May 7th of 2022.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1897[-1841PT])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from an 1841PT ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #631 (1968[-1840/41]) - Vicki - 'But I MUST have been wrong. Tom Jennings is dead.'

From "Robservations 9/4/02 - #630/631 - Barnabas & Vicki Try to Reason With Nick"
Vicki regains consciousness to find Barnabas with her. He assures her she's safe now. I recognized Tom, she tells him--but he's dead! No, says Barnabas, it was Tom. Impossible, says Vicki, dead people can't come back. His kind can, says Barnabas, but he doubts she would understand. Vicki objects--a person can't be alive and dead! (but this is DARK SHADOWS!) Tom can, says Barnabas, shocking Vicki--there are very few such people--they exist under a terrible curse--of the living dead--they cannot live in the light of day, but in the dark of night, they cannot die--they feed on the blood of other human beings, and they are called VAMPIRES. (Barnabas sounded like a professor giving this discourse to Vicki.)
Vicki says she never knew such things really existed. (ghosts, warlocks and witches are OK, but not vampires?) They do, says Barn, and you were almost a victim of one.
The Robservations paraphrases and doesn't use "MUST" - shameful!!...

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Vicki - 'Then he MUST'VE sent him here to kill me!') was back on August 25th of 2024.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1968[-1840/41])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from an 1840/41 ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
DS 1991 Ep #2 (-1970) - Julia - 'Your word. Your word that you will not harm me. I MUST talk to you.'

From SHADOWS IN THE '90s: The Dark Shadows Concordance 1991 - PLOT SUMMARIES - MINISERIES PART TWO (EPISODES TWO AND THREE):
     OLD HOUSE:  ...
She enters the cellar room and heads to the coffin.  Willie, "Oh,
God, Doc, I'm beggin' ya, please, Doc!"  She opens the coffin.
Barnabas' eyes jerk open.  She holds a cross before his face.
Barnabas gives a strangled cry of pain and covers his face with
his hands, snarling, "Put that away!"  He promises not to hurt
her.  She demands his word.  Barnabas, "I have already given
you my word! Put that away!"

The summary references only part of the quote - and not the "MUST" part - shameful!!...

And as I've done previously when it comes to the '91 Series, I used a screen capture from the TGG Direct DVD release that's the same dimensions as the ones from the original series -

- because even though that release also doesn't have the correct color timing like the VHS release does -

- also like the VHS release, it has the correct aspect ratio, plus it even tends to show a bit more of the frame and it's clearer than the VHS.

And even though the MGM DVD release, like the TGG Direct release, tends to be clearer than the VHS, frustratingly, the aspect ratio is cropped from 4X3 to 16X9 -

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "DS 1991 Ep #2 (-1970)" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a Summer of 1970 ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.

And this is the last "must" quote from 1991 Ep #2 - but then the principle writer is listed as DC, and we all know that he knew less about how DS actually worked than almost anyone else who worked on it - including the new writers, who were brought on board for the 1991 series, because their eps often have more than a dozen "must" quotes...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #777 (1897[-1970PT]) - Judith - 'I can't make the call. You MUST make it for me.'

From "Robservations #776-777 - 1/22/03 - Sad Demise"
Then Edward said, continues Judith...how many times was Rachel shot?  Three, says Tim succinctly, giving Trask a look.  Yes, says Judith, and three bullets were missing from my gun--I did kill her!  Judith sits down and covers her face with her hand.  Trask comforts her.  Isn't it enough, he asks Tim, that you destroyed one fine woman?  Rachel's dead, too, Tim reminds him--shall we all simply forget about her?  He leans on the mantle.  Forget Rachel?--never, says Trask, but we must put grief aside and concentrate on the living--if Judith shot. . .   IF! shouts Tim--no if about it, and she even admitted it.  She wasn't morally responsible, argues Trask, under the spell of an unnatural creature.  And so was I when I killed Mrs. Trask, says Tim.  That's a convenient excuse, says Trask.  I must admit it, says Tim, I had something to do with Minerva's death, but I don't know how or why or who cast me under this spell--but I think I'll have the leisure to discover who that was--NOW.  He looks at Trask significantly, and the Reverend looks stonily back.  Judith calls to "Gregory."--I still want to call the police--but you, Gregory, must make it for me.
Tim says, that isn't such a good idea, is it?, focusing on Trask.  The latter suggests Judith just rest.  I can't, she says--you must call the police and tell them there are two murderers at Collinwood.  "She doesn't know what she's saying," says Tim.  Trask escorts him out, saying I have to speak to Judith, but don't do anything you'd regret, he advises.
The Robservations references part of the quote, and best of all it's the "MUST" part...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Pansy's Ghost - 'I MUST find him') was back on October 13th of 2023, and the second (Gregory - 'You MUST be silent') was back on November 22nd of 2024.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1897[-1970PT])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from an 1970PT ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #956 (1970) - Maggie - 'It MUST be some kind of punishment.'

From "Robservations 5/28/03 - #956-957 - Return of Willie!"
Quentin, what we're doing is wrong, says Maggie, drawing away from his kisses, you must go.
For some unknown reason, the Robservations doesn't summarize the beginning of the teaser for this ep, and that's the part that includes the quote. However, the way things begin is that after Quentin and Maggie notice the marks on their hands, Maggie gasps and asks how they got the marks, and then asks why? That is followed by Maggie delivering the quote, to which Quentin takes her in his arms and says, "Maggie, no." But Maggie asks, "Well then, why did it appear on both our hands?" Quentin answers, "Why does it matter what it means?" She turns away from him and insists, "I've got to know." However, after he takes her by the arm and turns her back to him, he says, "Look at me." And after that is where the Robservations begins to summarize. And she does indeed say he must go, which is a quote that might show up in a future installment of the slideshow, though Maggie doesn't draw away from Quentin's kisses before she says it because she already had withdrawn earlier in the scene...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #842 (1897) - Tate - 'MUST'VE been a horrible nightmare because, because--'

From "Robservations 3/7/03 - #842-843 - Odd Allies; People By Tate"
Think back to the days before I made you so respectable, to the acquaintances you had then, says Petofi--rather curious people, some even dabbled in the black arts, if memory serves me.  Yes, admits Charles.  Which of them practiced this form of divination? asks Petofi.  Tate thinks it over.  Petofi can see he is recalling something, and that it pains him.  You shouldn't be toying with these things, says Tate.  Why not? asks Petofi.  Because if you haven't mastered them, they can be very dangerous--I saw them used once, says Tate, in an artist's apartment in New York--a woman went into a trance and started to scream that someone was trying to kill her--and after she got out of the trance, her hair was white and she was completely mad.  So, Dr. Hoffman was telling me the truth, realizes Petofi--thank you, Charles--I still will go the future, but will use greater caution
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all. However, it comes up after Tate explains that in the trance the woman screamed someone was trying to kill her and before he explains that her hair turned white...

If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding yesterday's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #1205 (1841PT[-1968/69]) - Julia - 'Catherine, I know how much Morgan wants this, but, are you certain it's the right things to do? I mean, knowing what you do know. I know you MUST love Morgan very much, but are you sure it's the right thing to do?'

From "#1205/1206: Robservations 12/12/03: Wedding Interruptus"
9:10 - Catherine, accompanied by Julia, comes downstairs, dressed not in white, but a lovely multi-colored, mostly-orange gown with what looks like marshmallows on the sleeves.  I know how much Morgan wants this, says Julia, but are you certain that it's the right thing to do?--knowing what you do know--I know you must love Morgan very much, but are you sure it's the right thing to do?  I've never been more sure of anything in my life, Catherine assures her--thank you for your concern.
The Robservations reference the quote quite well...

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1841PT[-1968/69])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a Vicki/Jeff-Cassandra/The Dream Curse-Adam/Eve/Nicholas ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #585 (1968) - Roger - 'Well, I appreciate the way you feel and the disappointment you MUST have suffered, but I do wish you'd reconsider.'

From "Robservations 7/31/02 - #584/585 - Willie & Adam Take Drastic Action"
Vicki, in her nightgown, reads in bed. Roger comes to see her and asks to speak to her. Carolyn told him Vicki wanted a leave of absence, but Roger says it's not a good time. She needs to recover from breaking up with Jeff. She feels she must get away and think things out.
Roger understands, but wants her to reconsider. He's not concerned about David, it's Liz he's worried about.
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote directly but does its circumstances...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #447 (1796) - Millicent - 'Oh, oh, you - you MUSTN'T think I said yes to him out of gratitude. I - I do love him very much.'

From "#0447/0448: Robservations 04/18/02: Nathan Plays the Gaslight Game"
Naomi comes in; she couldn't sleep, either. She sends Daniel to bed with a kiss. Naomi asks Millicent if she's sure she wants to marry Nathan tomorrow; the blonde is very certain--it isn't just because he saved her life--she loves him, very much. Millicent asks if Naomi, too, believes Nathan just wants her money. Wracking a handkerchief in her hands, Millicent says she'll prove Nathan loves her despite her money--she's going to have all her money and property put in Daniel's name. Naomi feels this is a drastic step, but Millicent says Nathan will be able to support her. Naomi feels Millicent should tell Nathan before the wedding what she plans to do. He told her she could renounce her entire fortune and he would still love her, says Millicent, smiling, and goes up to bed.
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #330 (1967) - Liz - 'David you MUSTN'T be afraid of the portrait. It's just paint on canvas.'

From "#0329/0330: Robservations 01/24/02: Dr. Barnabas Collins"
David complained to Aunt Liz that the eyes in Barnabas' portrait were following him--and Barnabas hates him, is hiding a secret in the Old House, and wants him to die!
The Robservations doesn't reference the quote at all, but it comes up after David brings up how the eyes in Barnabas' portrait are watching him because Barnabas is watching him - and after the quote is delivered, David explains that it isn't the portrait he's afraid of, it's Barnabas, because he wants David to die...
Yesterday's quote:
Ep #987 (1970PT[-1966/67]) - Cyrus - 'Well, I, I guess you know how I feel about you, but now, now one thing I must warn you, Sabrina. Now you're, you're very aware of my work habits?'

From "#0986/0987: Robservations 06/18/03: Real or Memorex?"
You're so quiet, Cyrus, says Sabrina--you don't talk about it to anyone--and so secretive of your notes. You'll know all she needs to, he promises, when the time comes. Sabrina sets up some test tubes--when that will be? she asks. She finds a ring in a jewelry box.  Did you put this here? she asks.  What is it? he asks--yes, I did put the ring there--so you'd find it. It's for me? she asks. I don't know who else it could be for, he teases. She puts the ring on her engagement finger and says, before I put my arms around you and make a fool of myself, it IS an engagement ring, isn't it?  I hope so, he says shyly. Oh, Cyrus, she says, hugging him--darling!  Do you like it? he asks.  I love it, she says--and you.  You know how I feel about you, says Cyrus, but I must warn you, you're very aware of my work habits, and knows how I tend to concentrate heavily on my work. I don't mind, she assures him.  Some women would, he says--my whole life is centered about my work, all my energies and thoughts...  Your devotion to your work is one of the things I like about you, says Sabrina. He grins at her.
The Robservations paraphrases the quote but does so well...

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "(1970PT[-1966/67])" before and in this case it means that the quote should have come from a The Return of Laura ep but there are no longer any eps from that storyline that haven't been quoted from.

And while the script has "entered the bloodstream," what Julia actually says in the film is "entered the body," as in the quote ...

And another bit of business is that I used a screen capture from the VHS -

- so that it would be in keeping with the dimensions of the screen captures from the original show, but this is what the Blu-ray looks like -

And apparently there was, or perhaps still is an alternate 4X3 print of hoDS that, unlike the VHS, shows more of the frame at the top but less on the sides and bottom, and it was shown as the July 14, 1985 installment of Elvira's Movie Macabre. So, I'm adding a screen capture from it of Scene 86 to this post:

And just a reminder, the "(-1966)" means that the quote should have come from a Vicki's Arrival-Burke's Revenge-Matthew Morgan-Introducing Josette ep, but there aren't any more eps from that period that haven't been quoted from, so an alternate version of DS is being used instead. In this case that alternate version is hoDS and a quote from its Scene 119 is being used.

Considering that the above post features the final script version for Scene 119, it's worth revisiting this post:

And something else that I alluded to earlier is that once again the Fest's 1999 Movie Calendar includes dialogue for a scene that aren't in any other version of the scene that I have other than the novelization - and one isn't even in that in its entirety. So without further ado, here are those sorts of entries on the calendar for Scene 119:

For March 13th:

hoDS: Alternate Version of Scene #119 - Stokes: 'All of the
classic symptoms are present in the attacks that have
occurred here.'

For March 14th:

hoDS: Alternate Version of Scene #119 - Julia: 'But, Eliot,
vampires are only legend.'

For March 15th:

hoDS: Alternate Version of Scene #119 - Stokes: 'Do you
know of any animals in this area that attack people for their
blood?'

For March 17th:

hoDS: Alternate Version of Scene #119 - Stokes:
'Impossible. Vampirism isn't a disease, Julia. Vampires are
the living dead.'

Though when I put together the original hoDS slideshow, I replaced the calendar's quotes for March 13h, 14th, 15th and 17th with their comparable quotes from what appears in DC's script:

For March 13th:

hoDS: Scene #119 - Stokes: 'You know, there are many
well documented cases for it -- some from the Twentieth
Century.'

For March 14th:

hoDS: Scene #119 - Julia: 'Well, I know about the legends.'

For March 15th:

hoDS: Scene #119 - Stokes: 'There's no animal in this area
that attacks people for their blood.'

For March 17th:

hoDS: Scene #119 - Stokes: 'Vampirism isn't a disease,
Julia. Vampires are the living dead.'
