Current Talk '03 II / Re: "Ms. Ideal Ghoul" Beauty Contest
« on: August 11, 2003, 04:07:16 PM »
Well, the voting seems to have ended, but I would have gone for Leona Eltridge.  Not only is she a regular scream, I've always been convinced that "she" was really "he," which means I might have actually GOTTEN somewhere with my "Ms. Ideal Ghoul."  (I know I'm a sick puppy...)

In terms of acting, the 1967 Laura wins, hands down.  I just packed my DS tapes and I have some episodes from her storyline as aired on Sci Fi that I haven't watched yet.  I'm looking forward to watching those once I'm moved.  "New" DS episodes are always wonderfully soothing to my frayed nerves.

Calendar Events / Announcements '03 II / 1959 credit for Grayson Hall
« on: August 08, 2003, 05:10:02 PM »
Dear fans,

Grayson was in my thoughts yesterday, so I decided to check her IMDB listings.  I was delighted to discover a newly entered credit for a TV show appearance she did in the US Steel Hour anthology series, in 1959.  On a date that's remarkably easy for me to remember; it's the day that my one and only sister was born.

United States Steel Hour (ran from 1953 through 1963)

"Wish on the Moon" Episode: #6.23 - 29 July 1959
Peter Brandon .... Hal Peterson
Peggy Conklin .... Miss Boyce
Joe De Santis .... Mr. Albright
Peggy Ann Garner .... Frances Barclay
William Gaxton .... Barney Goodwyn
Grayson Hall .... Secretary (as Shirley Grayson)
Gerald Hiken .... David Thorn
Emily Kimbrough .... Radio Commentator
Biff McGuire .... Gil Wayne
Erin O'Brien (I) .... Olivia Beech

While looking through the other listings for this series, I spotted an appearance by Thayer David in a 1957 episode.  Unlike poor Grayson, his character did have a name.  I wouldn't be surprised if other DS cast members appeared in this series, particularly such folks as Louis Edmonds and Clarice Blackburn.

If anybody has any ideas how I could get hold of a tape of this, I'd be thrilled to hear about it.

Current Talk '03 II / The Shocking Truth about TV Guide
« on: August 07, 2003, 08:21:49 PM »
Just now I happened to have a look at TV Guide's blurb (on their schedule pages) for DS, and I was *appalled* to see that they listed the cast of the 1991 remake for the cast of the series currently being broadcast on Sci Fi.

Such infamy!  and it's all so sordid...

Somebody is clearly too busy airbrushing beefcake graphics from The O. C. to bother with the few bits of quality left on the air.

Heavens, I think there could be a special post just on folks who were fans of DS way back during the original broadcast and used to have our own seances in the basement after we finished watching the show.

I still remember this one we had in my basement, when I was convinced I saw a face forming on a back wall of the cellar.  It frightened me so much we never had one again.

Nowadays, of course, I'm so jaded that whenever Something shows up uninvited, I simply inform It to ... Bugger off!

sorry I missed the skating on thin ice thing... that sounds like fun.

If memory serves, during the original Laura Collins storyline (1967), there's a scene in that set where everyone is having dinner around the table.

Talking about something to blow your mind!  Dinner at Collinwood!

It's weird during 1840 when Julia and Gabriel are seen having breakfast in the drawing room.

Current Talk '03 II / Re:Goodbye Nickerson! Hello Sturdivant!
« on: August 07, 2003, 04:55:14 PM »
Hi John, yes, I share your craving for the feral blandishments of Claude North!  I really wish more had been done with the character.  Given the dialogue regarding Claude's past that was given to Tim Stokes, it seems as if the original plan was to have Claude be a major player in the next phase of the PT 1970 storyline.  I wonder what happened?

Someday, I'll rent Diary of a Mad Housewife just to have a glimpse of luscious Brian Sturdivant in his prime at that party.

Hmmm... wonder whether Brian ever did any Colt magazine layouts???

How ghastly.  But honestly, looking at some of these eBay sales in years past, with folks buying stuff at exorbitant prices on eBay that's still currently available because a sly vendor has listed it as "rare" or "out of print," I'm hardly surprised.

I bought the hoDS/NoDS laser disc years ago because I wanted to see the movies in full screen ratio.  I was sooo disappointed when the discs turned out to have the standard crap pan and scan prints as on the tapes.

In my understanding, a customer would have every right to report this vendor to the eBay management.

August 7 is a sad anniversary for Grayson Hall's fans; it marks, this year, the 18th anniversary of her passing in 1985.

I've been told that when Grayson finally signed a contract for her work on One Life to Live in 1982-83, she informed a friend:  "Darling, I've had a clause added:  There will be no more goddamned tweed and no more high heels!"  I love to think of her feisty, indomitable spirit, and instead of mourning, I'd rather share a smile and a laugh at the utter insanity of the world with this most earthy of spirits.

Hi Eleanor Rigby,  believe it or not, I think the "sig" (a syllable I still have difficulty believing has become an actual word in the English language), is meant to be helpful.  The Moderators frequently get inquiries from patrons who have gotten their knickers in a twist over something or other.  The first question usually relates to just what browser/software they're using to view the Boards in.  With this handy device, nobody is ever going to be able to claim they don't know!  I myself keep forgetting just which incarnation of Windows I have been saddled--erm, I mean, gifted with.

As for the first piece of information, it's meant to discourage trolls, of which these Boards are thankfully free!

Other than the weird way the chandelier is hanging, I haven't a clue what could be wrong here.

Hi MB, I emailed you the jpgs yesterday.  Hope you got them!  (I have been having difficulty with people on Yahoo accounts not receiving my mail--I hope this is not spreading to other ISPs as well!)

Gothick who's on a bus bound for Canada tonight, hurray, hurray!

I firmly believe that the NoDS wig is the one that Grayson was given to wear on her Night Gallery episode, Certain shadows on the wall.  That was filmed in August of 1970 (but not broadcast until December of that year).  In an interview she gave to the people running her fan club at the time, Grayson said that that wig had originally been worn by Rita Hayworth in one of her films.  They either let her keep it, or she just walked off the set wearing it!

Unfortunately, I can't cleverly post comparison snapshots of Grayson on Night Gallery and NoDS, but the two wigs look identical to me.

I remember looking at a publicity photo of Grayson in NoDS when I was visiting Sam Hall.  I said, "I bet she was thinking '*I* am the QUEEN of Dark Shadows' when that picture was snapped."  Sam chuckled and said, "She was more likely thinking, 'This dress is too god damned TIGHT!"

That dead stuffed bird really did get around.

and, btw, Fah-thuh is living in Hannah Stokes' old digs.  I'm afraid that dear Evangelexis got busy with a doll and some black pins when she realized that Aunt Hannah could no longer be of further "use" to her.  And Fah-thuh got to inherit his sister's luxury condo on the wrong side of the tracks.

All very strange...

Hi Julian, ever see Trouble in Paradise?  Herbert Marshall was divoon in that.

As for Ashton K., he's a frothy little sex kitten, that I wouldn't kick out of bed for eating crackers.
