Just out of sheer curiosity, I watched the promo.  The main vampire couple do seem intriguing, but otherwise it seemed a lot like those old Aaron Spelling shows with lashings of Dawson's Creek territory thrown in for the teen angst set.

MB, it seemed as if the vampires have invented a form of Vampire Sun-block, from one scene I saw in the sneak preview.

I somehow doubt whether this will last very long; surely at this point in the scheme of things, the vampire market is, for lack of a better word, glutted?

He's definitely a Gorey fan--which shows good taste.  His version of Cassandra is a little too palely loitering for me, but I enjoy the drawing on its own terms.

Oh yes, MSC... another word that comes to mind for Liz, as Joan incarnated her, is "patrician."  I can't think of any American actresses of the appropriate age who could bring that off now; possibly Meryl Streep.

I guess it's been a REALLY long time since I watched hoDS all the way through.  When I revisit the film, I typically switch off the tape after Grayson's big line, "Your FACE!"  So, it comes as a surprise to see as Maggie Evans' doctor none other than the nefarious Nicholas Blair!  I had vaguely recalled that Humbert had a brief appearance in the film, but I don't remember him being this clearly on camera.

Last night I got out the tape to watch certain scenes.  I found myself wondering whether "Nurse Shepherd" is on camera at Stage Left in Julia's first scene, when she's treating Daphne at Collinwood.

I read in an old issue of Castle of Frankenstein that Bob Cobert had a "cameo" in the costume ball sequence, but couldn't spot him.  I did find myself wondering who played "John" and the other young man with him.

I again wondered why Jeff got Maggie a glass of punch but nothing for himself. Trying to get our date tipsy, are we?

I personally wouldn't care to see Kate cast as Liz.  I would enjoy the idea of her appearing in the film, although I would hope that it would be more than just a cameo appearance.

I just don't feel that Kate is right for the role of Liz.  It should be someone with a combination of matronly elegance and sharp-as-cut-glass shrewdness.  I have no suggestions to make since for me Joan Bennett WAS Liz, even though I have seen two other actresses play the part.  They are both very fine actresses, but neither of them convinced me for even a second that she was Liz.

It is really too bad that Barnabas did not have any scenes with Buzz.  Oh, how I would love to see that! and vote for it, of course.

It's too bad Dennis Patrick wasn't included.  I thought his scenes with Barn provided some of the finest moments of 1967.

Calendar Events / Announcements '10 I / Grayson Hall - Kojak 1974
« on: June 07, 2010, 04:20:46 AM »
Fans of the Divine Grayson Hall will enjoy the diva's role in this 1974 episode of Kojak:

http://www.hulu.com/watch/44719/kojak-hush-now-or-youll-die

I love it when Grayson's character informs her wayward son:  "I am DOING ... the BEST I can!" And when she takes a call for him:  "Really, I am NOT an answering service!"

This version of the episode is somewhat more complete than the version syndicated in the 1980s and 1990s, with more scenes of Grayson not seen in that previous cut.  This really is priceless stuff.  If I'm not mistaken, this season of Kojak has been released (or will be soon) in Australia but has yet to be released here in the US on DVD, unfortunately.

I would presume that Lara Parker's episode can be found on hulu, too--if I have a chance to look up the title, and I'll check and post the link soon.

Enjoy:

Taeylor, I also love how Grayson says that line, and that capture of her was such a vivid image of how grandly she played that scene.

I just looked at the Pom Press publication of the screenplay; my, there are a lot of scenes that are missing from the version as we have it, aren't there?  And Barnabas says "You betrayed me!" in the movie twice--first, to Willie, while he is beating him in a rage; and to Julia just before he kills her.

Today deserves a special floatie or some sort of hallmark because we finally get Barn saying THE line from the show and the movies:  "You have BETRAYED me!"

For some reason, back when I first saw all of it, it never occurred to me how melodramatic--not to mention self-aggrandizing (lol)--that line was.  It just really seemed to suit the character that he would say such a thing.  Over and over again.  (although I think in practice he only said it a couple of times?)

Of course, I adore the one from today, too.  Those eyes speak volumes of silent reproach.

Hi Ronny,

the DS actors don't get paid for appearing at the DS Festival, and I've never heard of any of them charging for an autograph.  It seems odd given the high fees old actors charge at other events I have heard about from friends.  I think Adam West now charges something like $25 per signature, possibly more.  I attended an event at which all the surviving cast members from Lost in Space were present in the mid 1990s and the fee, I think, was $100 to get everyone's signature--you were not allowed to cherry-pick.  The previous year Jonathan Harris sat at a table and charged $20 per autographed photo or item.

The only way Kate could make money is if she created a product to sell, like Roger Davis with his sweat shirts (which seem to have gone the way of all flesh), or Diana Millay with her cookbook.

And now comes today's capture--I'm practically in a state of feverish ecstasy at the sight!!! Grayson IS Goddess!!!!

I'm looking at it thinking "You want Miss Raspberry Soda of 1969 instead of this VISION of Divine BEAUTY?"

(Apologies in advance to fans of TLATKLS.  Even if I'm remembering Grayson's crisply-uttered, no-nonsense line in a certain fan interview:  "Katie Scott ISN'T a star.")

A memorable shot indeed, although the shot just before Barnabas enters the room of Julia smoking, having spent herself in rage and frustration, completely exhausted emotionally, was even more unforgettable.

Mistress Penny, I really wish Tim Burton would hire you as a Creative Consultant on the DS movie set.

Although then we might really get a look at Helena Bonham Carter's claws and fangs... given how superior your own womanly attributes are in every department...

Cordially,

Cousin Gothick of Cadogan Square
