A new tribute to Grayson was added to YouTube a few days ago, featuring some unusual images (mostly screen captures from DVDs, I think):

The soundtrack is an aria from some opera not known to me... sounds vaguely like Engelbert Humperdinck...

Superb work.  A really excellent re-design for the site!

An interesting snippet of Grayson news:  Grayson's episode of Kojak (episode three from season 2 of the series) is finally going to be available on DVD, albeit from a company based in Australia. The set is being released in April.  Check out www.amazon.co.uk for details.  Unfortunately, that wreteched Universal has stated they have no interest in releasing the remainder of the series here in the US.

The overseas companies such as Network really do justice to these classic series much better than most of our domestic firms (I will make a strong exception for MPI, which not only did wonderful work with their DS sets, but has kept them in print--hooray!).

I guess I am the only one here who thinks the grey streaks make Barn suddenly bear an uncanny resemblance to Grandpa Munster.

This is very cool!  I am thrilled to see the Klein film getting this kind of exposure.  And, of course, our beloved Grayson.

Thanks, Julia!

What a ravishing showcase, a beautiful tribute to a favorite scene.

Thanks, MB!

That whole psychic strength business always makes me let loose a good cackle.  I just keep thinking "Petunia Marshmallow."  Granted, Ben Martin was thinking of Josette there, but at this point as KLS herself commented her character is little more than "Paging Maggie Evans... Victim needed, front and center.  Now scream into camera 3."

Cool.  I'd known of Thayer's involvement with the Brattle, but not Fred Gwynne's.

Thanks, Midnite!

Thanks to the kindness of Julia99, I had a brief look this evening at this new page on Facebook for our beloved Thayer. (You can find the link easily enough if you are on F-book just by searching "Thayer David".)  The page was started by a nephew of Thayer's.  He posted this note in late December shortly after inaugurating the page:

So in just a week we have 14 members. Please invite your friends. My mom, David's sister is elderly and I'm sure hearing that people remember her brother makes her smile. My family is going to put together some fun stories. The IMDB bio is pretty well researched, although my family never rebuked David or his career choice. He was a character and had a rich, baroque demeanor. His wife, Valarie was a lot of fun, too. Having dinner with them was like being on a TV show. They were friends with people like Sorrel Brooke, (Boss Hog from the Dukes of Hazzard) and Fred Gwynne. When I was a kid, having my uncle tell stories about carousing with Herman Munster always left me wide eyed. Years later, I would discover that my uncle had been quite a character in Provincetown and Oqunquit on the theater scene. Once in a while I'll meet someone who knew him and they will go on about drinking with Tennessee Tom Williams and Marlon Brando. It's very cool.

(end of quote)

I wonder on what project beyond "carousing" Thayer worked with Fred Gwynne (TV's Herman Munster)?

There don't seem to be all that many Thayer David fans here but I thought any of them who might be around would definitely want to check this out.  Unfortunately there is not much there yet--no photos beyond a very nice "avatar" shot of our fave rave, and no stories beyond the above and one or two other snippets.

Best,

G.

I'm afraid I missed the remaining images from this scene since I was out in San Francisco for a few days.

Dare I hope that I will get a shirtless snap of Don Briscoe, perhaps the fabulous one of him standing beside a classical bust, in the near future??

cheers, G.

MB honey, you know I am just ADORING all the attention the slide show has been lavishing on this scene between Stokes and Julia.  I've always loved the scene, and to get to study it in this intricate level of detail... FABULOUS.  I particularly enjoyed yesterday's shot for some reason.  Although it really made me think of how Johnny Depp may look in Julia drag...

Miss Lara Parker (who everyone called Lamar in what is laughingly referred to as "real life") has a VERY pronounced Southern accent when she's not On Stage.  On the last DS DVD set, there's a segment entitled Lara Parker Rehearsal Tape, which is this amazingly little thing where they are rehearsing a scene from PT 1970 where Lara had to play two roles and I guess there were extra camera rehearsals because of the whole double-tracking thing that had to be done.  Lara's own speaking voice when she's not rehearsing as Ange is very deep-fried Southern.  It's too bad she wasn't considered for Steel Magnolias or one of those other Southern belle shows her stuff comedy-melodramas.

Given Depp's outlandish Mad Hatter make-up which keeps getting shoved in my face on every visible surface (thank you, Disney) I'm wondering whether Depp will play a dual role in Depp Shadows, portraying both Barnabas AND Julia.

He certainly was devastatingly feminine in that one cameo in Before night falls--Depp would make a minx-like, alluring, deadly Angelique.

I LOVE that particular scene!  It's one of my all time fave DS moments!  I love the catty back and forth between these two legendary ladies and how Julia narrows her eyes and informs Ange that "history may change and you may never GET to 1970."  And then Ange purses her lips and responds: "Oh no, Julia... for YOU the future will change... I puhROMISE you!"  This stuff is better than heroin ... better than Land o' Lakes ... like BUTTAH!

Golly!  David Warner.  I had no idea he was still working.  That is fabulous news!  And Alec Newman, too.

I don't know whether I will actually go ahead and get any of them, but it's very exciting that the discs are doing well enough where Big Finish both desire and have the means to hire actors of this calibre.

Lysette's participation will be a treat, too, for those who enjoyed her as Angelique.  (I am not among them, but I have always thought Lysette was a fine actress and had she been allowed to go on and portray "Lauralique," I think she would have knocked ALL our socks off!)

Very happy you did bring back that old slideshow for the Robservations board, MB.  I've been enjoying the images and thus far, none of them seem all that familiar to me.

I'm really loving today's shot of PT Julia Collins.  Just wonderful...
