Well, we're at the point now where clearly, KLS and LP ARE the surviving cast members as far as the DS Festival is concerned.

Selby is included when his schedule permits but he actually has a career so... (did I say that with my outloud voice?).

I'm not in the income bracket they're currently catering to, so it doesn't really bother me--I'm glad I was able to meet a few of my favorites while they were still alive and attending.

I remember unhappy blog posts from Elle-meme and some rather histrionic hand-wringing due to various incidents (connected with the movie and its release) last Spring.  Sorry I can't be more specific.  In all honesty I do not pay all that much attention to her.

At least she actually got to go over and be in it. Unlike Nancy Barrett, who I think of as much more central to the DS mythos than either KLS or LP, but never mind about that now.

Thanks for posting this, Richard.  I will do what I can even though I personally am doubtful it will do any good.

My holiday message to the suits who control WB Home Video is a succinct one:  a word that rhymes with "hockey puck", followed by YOU ALL.

Holiday cheer,

She really is incredible.  But I'm giving her extra slack this year.  I have the impression that the whole Depp Shadows affair was a fairly unpleasant episode for her to undergo.

That's a fabulous thread, Darren.  Way to go! and of course now i'm more frustrated than ever with the latest releases of the films. Aargh!

If I can think of something civil and eloquent to say, I'll post, but some of the posters, particularly yourself and Richard W, have already said it all much better than I could have.

If James Aubrey really did target Grayson's performance for cuts, that's yet another reason to loathe and detest the man.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Do we know if the cruise is going to be the only event being sponsored by the DS Festival in 2013?

I'm really wondering if this cruise is planned as, perhaps literally, a swan song for the Festival.

Current Talk '12 II / Re: A real life Sandor Petofi!
« on: November 20, 2012, 11:42:24 PM »
According to Violet Welles in that one interview that was done with her, she created the character of Count Petofi.  She wrote him into a scene where Magda was explaining to Sandor about the curse she was going to lay on Quentin and how she had seen it done to Count Petofi. At a story conference, someone, maybe Dan, suggested making the character more of the story.

The name Rakosi also exists in history.  I have a vague memory of this having been an alias of the infamous Count Saint Germain (whose legend was most likely the real inspiration for Count Petofi on DS, and most likely via the celebrated film, The Queen of Spades), but Wikipedia has an entry on Matyas (Matthias) Rakosi, the "de facto ruler of communist Hungary," in the 1950s.

Was it an old commercial, Annie?  From what I have heard, Diana is completely retired now.

Hey Quentin, I definitely enjoyed this series.  I posted about it a couple of times but there wasn't much response.  The humor obviously isn't to everybody's taste but I thought it was really quite funny.  There were a couple of misfires but you are quite correct in saying they really know the ins and outs of the series.

I would love to see them do more, but I would guess that after 30 episodes, they all felt ready to move on to other projects.  Who knows, perhaps they'll go back and do more at some point.

Carnabas's lounge lizard look in the final episodes reminded me of Jerry Lewis in the "Nutty Professor" when he transformed into a similar personality--Buddy Love or something was the name?

Lots of fun in-jokes and references to explore in this one.

Wow, I'd love to see a caligulan orgy in the drawing room.  What a hoot!  It would be interesting to see just what would happen to some of the ladies' elaborate hairpieces. It's shown a number of times that the women who live at Collinwood go to bed wearing their high heels.

Dark Lady, alas I can't read the part of your post where you are responding to me.  I don't know if it's because I'm on a Mac or just what, but the whole text is blocked out in white and clicking or highlighting on it doesn't help.

I haven't been watching, but it does sound like fun.

Still haven't seen Depp Shadows so I can't comment.  I wonder how fair it is though, to compare two movies where one was thrown together after a couple of months of scriptwork and prep with a six week shooting schedule and a pretty small budget while the other one was filmed over--was it three, or four months?--with millions poured into it, very expensive art direction and FX, yadda yadda.

As Gerard says... apples and oranges.

michael, you needed to fix Tracy with a frigid glare and intone, "Did you EVER stop to think that perhaps you don't belong here?"

(A line Grayson/Carlotta has in the movie, in a scene with Jackson/Tracy)

I still remember a dream I had of being at Collinwood when the show was originally on.  This would have been in the late Sixties.  I remember being very happy to be there but then I started to worry whether "the vampires" would get me...

cheers, G.
