lol, thinking about what MB has reported about how DC insisted on directing Ben Cross in those "snarling Barn" scenes, I now think of Cross as DC's "snarlin' darlin'" (shades of Penny Dreadful!).

Well, I for one still love Vicki's original 1966 train ride the best, particularly her conversation with the gossipy old biddy.  I wish I could remember the actress's name.  What a hoot.

I thought having Nights in White Satin play over the 1972 "Victoria"'s journey was a stroke of genius, particularly in retrospect upon learning her backstory--though sadly I doubt there were any accoutrements of white satin in the place she was journeying from, but as a trope for a certain mental state... genius.

I only wish the remainder of the movie had lived up to that moment.  For me it did not.  The Liz/Julia deleted scene was a painful reminder of what this movie *could have been*--I'll stop here because it's all been said before.

I am glad there are fans out there like Gerard who worship every moment of the Depp/Burton movie.  It's always nice to see folks taking joy in things.

Hi Patti, I re-watched this movie a few months ago, and I think it's meant to be sometime in the 19th century.  I think the coffin that was robbed actually had dates from the 17th-18th centuries on it.  The movie is meant to be a direct sequel and continuation of Dracula, Prince of Darkness (really a much better movie IMO), at the end of which
Dracula, who is supposed to have a traditional aversion to running water, is trapped under ice in the moat outside his own castle.
There are a number of "rules" given about vampirism in this one that don't apply in the other ones--the most egregious is the notion that somebody has to say prayers when a vampire is destroyed, or else it doesn't work.  Huh?

Best, G.

Impressive and intriguing.  Thanks, Midnite & MB!

Presumably after viewing the cut Depp delivered, the suits mandated cuts to remove material that did not impact directly on the Barnabas/Angelique narrative, because once Barnabas arrives at Collinwood, in the regular release print that's what we get.

Thanks for including these deleted scenes.  You already know my thoughts, so I won't repeat them.

Fans, I saw a thumbnail shot of Meryl Streep on the hyperlink for this new (not yet released) movie, August: Osage County, and I thought I was looking at Grayson in hoDS!  Streep's vocal performance has nothing Graysonesque about it, but she is seen in the trailer not only with the hair, but sporting big funny sunglasses (a Grayson trademark) and in one scene smoking with what seems like a distinctly Graysonesque mannerism.

Just makes me wonder... (I do realize that I am a little too obsessed with Grayson at times...)

I am quite curious about this scene, but I just checked Youtube, and there's no sign of it on there.  Pity.

It's too bad this scene, and anything else involving Pfeiffer and HBC, hasn't been made more widely available.

I do not mean to be unkind, but ANY scene without Depp and Green in that film is automatically more interesting and nuanced than scenes with one, the other or both of the terror tots--something about them just seemed to push Burton to go not just over the top, but, in the words of the much lamented Ralph Kramden, "To the Moon, Alice!"

Oh Gawd.  Parker's writing a Vicki Winters backstory?  Ugh.

Thanks for clearing that up, Midnite.

Am I the only person who's taken aback, though, by the new announcement (presumably the source of the rumor) that the Festival is doing ANOTHER Tarrytown event next year?

I love Lyndhurst and the related sites, but the area is so pedestrian un-friendly--I just feel zero interest in going out there again with all the transpo hassles.  Maybe I'm in a tiny minority with that among DS fans, though.

Oh, dear god.  No wonder he seemed to have such a "what the hell" attitude about it all...

thanks!

Oh No!  I think I do have it, but it's buried in a folder in a box in the basement.  I have been going through those, believe it or not, so if it surfaces, I will send you a copy!  It really was very good... I'm sorry it got lost in the shuffle!

hugs, G.

Intriguing footage.  It seems that another film project involving Chris Pennock is afoot. I think this may have been announced, but if so, I have forgotten the details.  My short term memory grows ever more sieve-like with each passing day.

The scenes of Lara and KLS working their tables and signing, etc. were all very familiar, and I saw several familiar faces in the group.  The event looked and sounded to have been well attended.

I don't know if it is appropriate to mention it here, but I have heard that there is talk of Pierson giving the Summer Tarrytown event the official "DS Festival" imprimatur.  Hopefully if that is the case, it will be clarified in a Shadowgram announcement.

Best,  G.
