dom's impersonation of Liz is thespian perfection incarnate.  You've got the model stance, the annoyed look, and the tilt of the chin down to a flawless T.

I'd play Tom Jennings' secret boyfriend.  All my most significant scenes would be played off camera, however.  *pout*

Current Talk '05 I / Re: DS Cancelled!

I remember that I read about it.  My memory is that it was a newspaper article, but it might have been this feature that used to run in TV Guide--these yellow pages at the front and back of the magazine that had what looked like manual typewriter font and were more or less little snippets of breaking news in the media/entertainment world.  Back in the Sixties, there were far fewer fora for learning about such things--no such thing as Entertainment tonight; so I used to follow that feature fairly closely.  I always checked through TV guide each week to see what films were going to be on.   In those years (ages 10 to 12) I had quite an interest already in old movies, especially ones from the early Thirties (I was thrilled earlier today to see that 20th century just came out on DVD, in a very stylish looking package).

I never heard about the campaigns to try and keep it on the air.  In those days, I did not know anything about organized fandom, although the clubs were mentioned in 16 magazine--for whatever reason, I never bothered to write and get DS penpals.

Like so many others, I tuned in on that Monday following, only to see Password in DS' place.  I had enjoyed Password before then, but that particular event ruined that game show for me.

Well, I really wonder why they even bother to review beyond one or two volumes of DS on these sites.  It's pretty obvious that only a diehard fan would be interested in something that is volume SEVENTEEN of a 1960s soap opera.

If you asked me to write reviews of the DVD releases of "Cheers," "Seinfeld," or "Angel," believe me, the results would NOT be pretty.

Current Talk '05 I / Re: most annoying d s character

I personally find Jeff Clark the most annoying character in the history of DS.  I almost invariably fast forward through his scenes, especially the one on ones with poor Vicki.

Hi Patti,

George Dicenzo is one of my favorite DS production people.  I believe he's the one who once described Grayson as a "gutsy broad" that he loved a lot.  I think he might have gone into acting after DS went off the air... gods, I'm probably conflating two or three different stories here... I'd love to see that interview, and they are now getting into episodes that I run at least a couple times per year, so I just may invest in the new set.  (I've already been pondering getting the Tom Jennings storyline, and in my dreams I would love to own all of the Cassandra Collins story--I DIG Cassandra!)

J. J. Lupatkin worked fairly steadily throughout the series, I believe, but I am not sure just what he did.  Would be fascinating to see an interview with him.

Just a note that I sincerely hope that all the folks who were wringing their paws in a recent topic on the purported "death of Dark Shadows" will try to attend this chat--a high profile DVD restoration and release of the DS movies would be great publicity for "the franchise" as we seem to be calling it now (that word still makes me think of overcooked greasy french fries).

Well, chacun a son goo.  I don't agree that Magda's accent was "terrible" (though it was sometimes terrifying), it was larger than life, just like the character herself (the concept of theatricality appears to be lost upon today's audiences).  I also do not agree that Leviathans was as boring as Liza with a Z or whatever that pathetic woman said.

I don't think Judge Cullum was paying much attention while watching these shows.  Evan's spell to drive Petofi out of Quentin's body failed, and the Leviathans were from Earth's own Underworld, not from an alien planet.  But then, what can you say about someone who finds a minor blooper to be the most exciting moment of the set???

Damn, I wish *I* could find someone to send me DS DVDs for free...

Oh dear.  I am hopeless with chats.

I really do hope some of the more technically savvy folks here (with better connections) can get into the room and make our voices heard!

Your line about Dim George's intemperate outburst being like that of a cocker spaniel made me smile.

These are rather dreary episodes, and Vicki's dinner chez Evans is just plain weird.  But I believe the ascetic silhouette of Mrs Sarah Johnson looms on the horizon.  You were inquiring about Maggie's tip earnings? *smirk*

Art Wallace really was something of a hobble-de-hoy as a writer, wasn't he?  It's odd how he comes back and we return to crawling through the day in Real Time.

I finished the Swann novel.  My favorite scenes involved Todd's place.  That and the little dear who had been Miss Cotton's companion. Thanks for the recommendation--it was just the thing for Saturday.

Any other Swann novels you'd recommend?  I may order the Royal Whatsis just out of curiosity.

I haven't read those, but, more years ago than I care to recall (has it really been THAT long?) I read the beginning of a wonderful series by fan writer M. F. Miozza that was his version of how 1971 might have transpired, had the original series not been axed.

Unfortunately he never finished it, adding to the list of fan projects we've yet to see completed (my own bio of Grayson Hall among them!)

Connie's unfinished novel Divine Awakening is a very different take--to me, fascinating--on what might have happened to the characters had Barnabas been cured and Julia instead hooked up with Quentin.  The emotional dynamics of this are beautifully described.  It's very much adult fiction (and I'm not using "adult" as a synonym for "sexual infantilism" as is popular in our culture).
