In the version of the myth I remember from my childhood reading of Edith Hamilton, the blood from Medusa's severed head took form as the beautiful winged horse Pegasus. What I learned in my adult explorations of Greek mythology is that there were numerous versions of the old myths in circulation back in ancient times. These are dispersed in a really random way in various old authorities such as Apollodoros and Pausanias who traveled about and almost invariably introduce some odd new variant they've heard in their peregrinations with the phrase, "but some say..."

There seems to be a rule that every 10 to 20 years, the BBC has to film DRACULA again. This version seems to owe a lot to F. Coppola, Ken Russell, and Guillermo del Toro.

This one from the "Spooky Stories" series has some sound effects distinctly reminiscent of DS:

From 1978. I was in college at this time and completely oblivious of this particular series.

I think it might have been this one--the Archies singing "Jingle, Jangle." The Archies were interesting historically because lead singer Andy Kim (who of course wasn't credit at the time) was Korean-American. I think it was an early instance of an Asian-American singer on the charts (but not the first).

The song title "Jingle Jangle" makes me think of Josette's music box... that's my excuse for posting it here!

If you search cereal box record on you tube you can find others of these by the Archies, the Monkees, the Jackson 5 and something called "Spooky Stories" from '78.

It's fascinating to hear that.

I vaguely recall these and we might have even cut one out of the back of the cereal box. Was it a Cowsill's record? I know it wasn't Bobby. It's such a vague memory that it might not be something I am recalling for real. I'd forgotten all about these.

Thanks for sharing the link, Midnite!

And now today Julia is telling Willie that Nathan's legs are gangrenous from blood loss.

I think there was some kind of communication failure between the artist and the writer, at this point. Wasn't this the final issue of this short-lived series?

That's great that you met Bridget Hanley and Robert Brown. I always thought Brown was sexy in a kind of rugged way, and I thought Bridget looked so wholesome and genuine. I remember reading back in the teen mags day that Bridget married a producer and presumably retired after Brides went off the air.

I'm wondering just what it is about Nathan's legs that have Willie exclaiming "Oh God." Presumably, Nathan is turning to stone, but that's not visually evident, to me at least. Thus, it's hard to resist the thought that Willie may be a secret, hardcore foot fetishist.

For those who find the theme of this story intriguing, I strongly recommend the classic 1964 Hammer studios film, The Gorgon. It offers an interesting variation on the old legend.

What an awful name for a band--"The New Establishment." Wasn't the old Establishment bad enough?

I thought Seattle was a nice, upbeat song. I think I may have seen one episode of Here come the brides but it did nothing for me. Robert Brown (who also appeared in a strange Star Trek story that I seem to recall involved Parallel Time) was the male lead on the show. Bobby had a supporting role. Joan Blondell who was always great fun was in it, along with Mark Lenard and others--I'd completely forgotten David Soul was in the cast.

Bobby Sherman had a few top 40 hits in the 1969-71 period. A friend loaned me a videotape of Bobby about 20 years ago appearing on Rosie O'Donnell's talk show in the late 1990s. She made a big deal out of how he had been her big crush as a tween. He seemed healthy and happy.

According to a popular internet search engine, among Bobby's other hits were "Little Woman," "Julie Do Ya Love Me," and "Cried Like a Baby."

It was linked from this blog, which seems to have gone dark around the time the people involved started their DS project, in 2016. This is an interesting article which mentions Ed Gross who wrote some DS books as well.

Fans,

Perhaps this has been posted here previously, but I do not recall it if so. This fan decided to write about each episode (with screen captures) on the 50th anniversary of its air date. So he started back in 2016. He and his friends are now in the final weeks of the 1897 storyline, and the latest episode from 10/21/1969 was posted just yesterday:

If you scroll down there's a great Quentofi capture... Selby really gave incredibly good sneer during that story. (I know a lot of fans don't care for it, but I enjoy the theatricality of it all.)

Yes, somebody with extreme fortitude and devotion is now doing a "blog" series on the Ross novels.

I played the trailer for this. It is not my idea of a good time, but it's heartwarming to see Catherine Disher getting regular work thanks to these. I loved her on Forever Knight. Nice to see her in a couple of these clips.

She named her son Peter. I'm sure there's no connection but still... David named his son Jamison, and Alex named her son Adam. Definitely seems uncanny!
