I agree, Josette.  In general, the physicality and animal verve of JRM in his performance is one of the main things that really gives this show a different twist.

I really can't get over how stunning the clothes are, as well.  Those trailing trains in the ball sequence kept making me think of Aubrey Beardsley.

I may be the only fan posting here who has been watching this series.  I get an indecent amount of fun out of it.

The plot arc keeps throwing in stuff that is reminiscent of DS, especially hoDS, but with its own twists and turns.  It's all very character driven but has enough spectacular violence to keep horror fans tuning in.

The actress who plays Mina Murray has a quality to her that I find very reminiscent of Joanna Going.

Martinique is "where the Dark Shadows legend" began? I'm sure that statement would come as a surprise to Dan Curtis and Art Wallace.  LOL!

Seriously, though, the cruise sounds like a great time.

I checked Amazon just now and The Smart One by Kate Jackson is listed for pre-order, as published by Simon and Schuster... but only as an eBook.

Wishing Kate all the best with her project!

Billy Masters implied she had a contract with a regular mainstream publisher.

There is an item about Kate Jackson in this online column. I attempted to copy the relevant paragraph which comes towards the end of the current column dated Nov. 11 but the copy functionality is blocked:

http://www.billymasters.com/active/active.htm

The item is about Kate's efforts to write her memoirs.  The book was originally announced for May 2011 publication.  The latest revised date is Feb. 2015.  According to Masters, Kate has had difficulties getting beyond her outline.  Let's hope she's able get down to working on it over this Winter.

Best,

I thought Alec Newman was awesome as a vampire warrior on DRACULA.  It makes me regret all over again that we didn't get to see more of him as Barnabas.

The character seems to have been written out, but as on DS, he could always come back...

According to the synopsis & credits, Buzz does not actually appear... so I presume that this is simply mentioned in dialogue.  Nancy Barrett playing Carolyn... this I have to hear!

For reals?  Who plays Buzz?  I may have to investigate...

Wow.  That's exciting to know, Mysterioso Dahling!  I would hope that Dracula can be a prestige project for the network and we can get ten more episodes even if we have to wait till the Autumn of 2014.  I'm getting quite a kick out of this Dracula, particularly the scenes between JRM and Vicki Smurfit (I think the actors may be friends in real life).

There are some cool images on this site including a four panel shirtless gif of one of JRM's boudoir scenes from the last episode:

A friend has told me that this series is not performing very well in the ratings game, so it seems unlikely that it will be renewed.  (The series only lasts 10 episodes.)

Wow.  Really can't wait to catch up with this show.

Hopefully fans who are curious can find the Youtube clip I had posted earlier with an excerpt from Alec Newman's performance as Barnabas.  As I've stated repeatedly, he is the only actor other than Jonathan Frid who I thought actually achieved the impossible and gave us a new approach to the character to enjoy.

I love the guy with the afghan.

Michael,I am pretty sure both the Tarrytown event and the Cruise are happening.

You really need to see BRIDES OF DRACULA, MB.  The histrionic dowager factor is high with Martita Hunt (the greatest Miss Havisham of them all, in David Lean's 1940s film of GREAT EXPECTATIONS) and Freda Jackson duelling for the role of scenery shredding doyenne.  I think it's a tie though Freda just may have the edge for this extraordinary scene where she performs wake-up call duties for a new Bride.

It's also probably the most Freudian vampire movie ever made, with some great setpieces...
