Ah.  Was her character taking the place of Mrs. Johnson, then?

I still don't know how the original series was able to get away with every matriarch of Collinwood, from Naomi down to Liz, living without a lady's maid.  Such privation would have seemed positively indecent to our ancestors, although Liz obviously had her reasons for firing her own maid in 1949.

I suspect that ONE DAY's expenses on the movie set were equivalent to MORE than what it cost to make all five years of the original series...

But I'm no actuary!

Remember KLS's story about the false fingernail fangs?  I suspect that Terrayne/Beth got the same treatment for her own one day in fangs...

I'm afraid I don't remember Sophia Loomis at all in the pilot.  Willie's Mom??

Burke and Liz had a big confrontation early on.  Can't recall the episode numbers, but it's the one where he pretty much smooth-talks Carolyn into bringing him home with her.

I do love how Roger flips when he finds out Burke is at Collinwood in that earlier episode.  Fab work from Edmonds.

That's a great snap of Helena with that bloke at the party. She's such a gamine little thing.

Onwards and upwards!

I had the same thought, Michael C.

Wow, that close-up is phenomenal! Thanks so much, Philippe!  It actually makes me want to see the movie again, which is pretty incredible in its own right.

The beginning of the Empire mag article, which is hard to read due to the poverty of the scan and the weird color chosen for the typeface, describes Burton directing Depp in a scene in which clearly there is going to be major use of CGI.  And the blue bands that extend around the top of the Collinwood facade outdoor set show that in any of these scenes, lots of CGI will be involved to finish off the mansion--beyond whatever action is involved.

Happy Birthday!!!

I guess I was the only one in the group who was really shocked when I read
that Angelique was running the rival Cannery!  So in some ways Ange's character is being combined with Burke Devlin?  Now I am very curious to learn just what are the grounds for Julia's hatred of Angelique well before Barn comes on the scene.  Intrigue!
I agree with comments from Nancy and MB--DS, the real DS, always was about characters interacting, clashing, conspiring, hating, loving... This is definitely sounding better and better.

All this, AND we get the restored NoDS!  Yay!

I'm very interested!  Everything from Cheep Productions was a scream!

Warning Warning Warning:  Definite SPOILERS in that Empire mag article.  My jaw dropped when I read one particular detail.  There is also more info given about the Collinwood sets and there will definitely be some touches of Burton's trademark dollhouse grotesquerie at this Collinwood.

Seth the screenwriter describes the movie as a supernatural gothic soap-opera action-comedy.  Humor is mentioned a couple of times.  I still maintain that there WAS intentional humor woven into the original series--what else do you call Nicholas Blair leering at Julia and telling her, with a poker face, that she's been reading too many Gothic novels?  But I'm sure the humor of this version will have the air of that trademark Tim Burton crazed whimsy about it.  Brace yourselves.

Brandon baby, the idea of Barnabas Collins in a mosh pit ... whoa.  I am trying really, really hard not to laugh out loud now given that I am in the office and this laugh could be a regular war whoop.  Thanks for that.  This week has been shredding.

I was thinking about this project last night and this vision of Tim & Johnny having DS night every week for years... I was considering the bits and pieces that have been shared and I think that in some ways, these two know more about the minutiae of MANY of the episodes than anyone else who has ever worked on a film or remake of the series.  Remember the time the writers had completely written themselves into a corner late in the original series, and somebody was sent outside to bring in a couple of the diehard fans to explain where they were in the story and what had been going on over the past few months?  That's Depp & Burton... or so it would seem ... given these hints we've been given about stuff we're going to see in this.

Wow.  haven't any of the Depp fan sites posted scans of that article yet? What is taking them so long??

I do wonder whether the fact that it is almost Oct. now and they are STILL shooting will result in a re-scheduling of the release date.  Given that MB confirmed my speculations on the length of post-production for the movie... based on something or other he had read.

Wow.  I'm glad I read the thread before bothering to start the quiz.

Shouldn't we have the person put a disclaimer on that there's nothing remotely "ultimate" about their knowledge of the series?

It reminds me of the time some tremulous admirer wrote the Ladies of Llangollen begging to come and spend the weekend basking in their fabulosity and received a reply that began, "I do not think you know Who We Are."
