Mison has an inner "flouncing tart" ... now I *really* think I am in love...

Not sure if it's on topic for us, but I saw a report on another site that in the first episode of the new series of American Horror Story, this time subtitled Coven, there's a scene in which Boss Witch and Grand Poohbah Jessica Lange releases someone from a chained coffin.

I personally have zero interest in the series at this point, but it might be amusing to have those who are watching (and I know you're out there) check in with any further plot points that seem oh so familiar to us DS fans.

Apparently the writer of these shows is quite the fan himself... recalling earlier installments that seem to have had a number of references to our show on board...

Love the opening pan of Julia's flasks, vials, retorts and lab equipment... the psychedelia of the color scheme seems very 1968...

Interesting dream.  It's also true that Robert Rodan went into DC's office one day to ask for a raise.  The next day, Adam went into Prof. Stokes' spare room and was never seen or heard from again (though in all fairness, the script did provide a short explanation for his disappearance--if you had happened to dash into the kitchen for a cup of tea, however, you'd have missed it).

I can STILL remember a dream I heard during the original broadcast that I was at Collinwood and I was meeting Barnabas, Julia and members of the family.  (I have strong abilities in the area of lucid dreaming.)

Julia wears one of my favorite outfits in this show.  Chic and lovely!

Despite the grim subject matter, I wonder if somebody in the production unit was having a bit of fun when the close-up on Joe at the end of act 1 reveals a sign hanging on the wall behind him reading "Please give blood."

Calendar Events / Announcements '13 II / Eva Green is in PENNY DREADFUL
« on: October 11, 2013, 08:22:53 PM »
Eva Green is mentioned as a cast member of next year's new supernatural Victorian horror series PENNY DREADFUL (not to be confused with the fabulous film series hostessed by my beloved Niece of the same name).  The cast list as notated in this release suggests a very high profile project:

Billie Piper (aka Doctor Who's Rose Tyler) is joining Penny Dreadful on Showtime, a reimagining of Gothic Victorian horror which already features Josh Hartnett, Eva Green and Timothy Dalton in its cast.

Billie Piper may be making a special guest appearance as a returning Rose Tyler in November’s 50th Anniversary Doctor WhoSpecial, but soon she’ll be trading in the TARDIS for another bout of Victorian supernaturalism.

Announced in a press release, the singer-actress has been cast to star in Showtime’s upcoming Penny Dreadful TV series, which shall begin production this fall with a 2014 premiere in mind. Piper is set to play Brona Croft, an Irish transplant who’s come to Victorian London to escape a dark and sordid past…only to find something far more dark in the way of spectral paintings, Undead tourists and reanimated science projects!

Piper joins a cast that already includes Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear and Harry Treadaway.

Penny Dreadful is created and spearheaded by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd), who is producing alongside Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Mendes’ frequent Neal Street collaborator Pippa Harris. Juan Antonio Bayona of The Orphanage has already signed on to direct the first two episodes of a series that aims to reimagine the creations of Oscar Wilde, Mary Shelly and Bram Stoker, among others. DLA I have a buddy who gets Me-TV which isn't on his cable roster via some kind of antenna he positioned on the roof, I think.  I know people here in the Boston areas who watch via a new form of rabbit ears. So, there are work arounds.

I luckily own every episode on DVD.  My interest in the topic is mainly along the lines of allowing younger generations the opportunity to see the show and potentially carry the torch forward. Those of us who watched back in the Sixties--sometimes whimsically called "the Ancient Blood"--aren't getting any younger.  alas.

Sorry, MB, I failed to check the date on that blog post.  Ah well.

The original email from my friend said that what he heard mentioned 2014 or even 2015 as start dates so perhaps the network is simply in negotiations with World Vision for the rights.  Who knows.  I'm not aware of the current status of DS with respect to Netflix streaming; for the younger audience that is a fairly good option for it.

I know it's OT,  but I saw an F Troop episode about ten years ago and the racism of the portrayal of American Indian people really threw me for a loop.  But then, it was also the era of HOGAN'S HEROES and all the fun of living in a Nazi concentration camp...

This link was posted on a Me-TV board a little while ago; it's a blog post specifically about the DS rumors:

http://www.bubblews.com/news/906415-the-return-of-dark-shadows

It's interesting how popular mid 1960s series continue to be.  Another post on the same board is about reruns of Mr. Ed and Patty Duke running on a network called Antenna, along with I Dream of Jeannie. It would be interesting to know what the demographics are with respect to the audiences--aging boomers or are some of the young hipsters who enjoy style elements of the 1950s and 1960s tuning in as well.

That family tree looks about right to me, MB.
Magda's curse specified that the taint went through the male line, so a daughter wouldn't pass it on to her son (Joe Haskell).
I agree that it's huge fun watching Vampilique do her thing.  Although Cassandra is my favorite of all the variants on Angelique, I do think in many ways that the original 1795 portrayal was the most interesting because they focused more on specifics of Angelique's personality as a scorned woman and less on all the superwitch hocus-pocus.  Of course as a kid I just couldn't wait to see what her next spell or piece of enchantment would be...

Current Talk '13 II / Me-TV Network
« on: October 09, 2013, 05:05:09 PM »
A friend sent me a note this morning saying there's a rumor on the Internet that the Me-TV network, which shows many classic TV shows (some of them, such as THE ROGUES from around 1965-66, previously unknown to me, but excellent, quality television), has signed a deal to run DARK SHADOWS, the original 1966-71 series.

If true, this would be an EXCELLENT showcase for our series, and make it even more popular.  With series such as AMERICAN HORROR STORY and THE VAMPIRE DIARIES constantly referring to DS in their publicity (and in at least some cases, plotlines), I think young people are curious, and often wind up becoming very enthusiastic viewers of our show.

Let's hope this will be confirmed via official news release soon.

I wonder if "Bello" magazine is available in the US.  It sounds like an Italian men's mag.

Joseph Morgan is just too damn sexy... I'm jelly looking at that photo!
