Eva Green is mentioned as a cast member of next year's new supernatural Victorian horror series PENNY DREADFUL (not to be confused with the fabulous film series hostessed by my beloved Niece of the same name). The cast list as notated in this release suggests a very high profile project:
Billie Piper (aka Doctor Who's Rose Tyler) is joining Penny Dreadful on Showtime, a reimagining of Gothic Victorian horror which already features Josh Hartnett, Eva Green and Timothy Dalton in its cast.
Billie Piper may be making a special guest appearance as a returning Rose Tyler in November’s 50th Anniversary Doctor WhoSpecial, but soon she’ll be trading in the TARDIS for another bout of Victorian supernaturalism.
Announced in a press release, the singer-actress has been cast to star in Showtime’s upcoming Penny Dreadful TV series, which shall begin production this fall with a 2014 premiere in mind. Piper is set to play Brona Croft, an Irish transplant who’s come to Victorian London to escape a dark and sordid past…only to find something far more dark in the way of spectral paintings, Undead tourists and reanimated science projects!
Piper joins a cast that already includes Josh Hartnett, Eva Green, Timothy Dalton, Reeve Carney, Rory Kinnear and Harry Treadaway.
Penny Dreadful is created and spearheaded by John Logan (Gladiator, The Aviator, Sweeney Todd), who is producing alongside Sam Mendes (American Beauty, Skyfall) and Mendes’ frequent Neal Street collaborator Pippa Harris. Juan Antonio Bayona of The Orphanage has already signed on to direct the first two episodes of a series that aims to reimagine the creations of Oscar Wilde, Mary Shelly and Bram Stoker, among others.
