I don't know - basing so much of the review on the notion that the horror (and a horror for all the wrong reasons) that is hoDS is an accurate distillation of the original series is disingenuous at best, if not outright ridiculous. Frankly I'm thrilled that the new film is so far removed from hoDS because the last thing we needed was another hoDS rehash.
And she's kidding herself if she thinks hoDS was beloved in its time and it's only with the passage of time that it can be looked upon as flawed.
Also, apart from her hoDS comparisons, she faults the new film's sex scene between Barn and Ang as something that he instantly regrets and will therefore try to treat as if it never happened. Well, can't the same be said for the implied sex scene between Barn and Ang on the original show when she first arrived at Collinwood in 1795 as well as the depicted sex scene between them under similar circumstances in the '91 DS? Depicting the aftermath that way is actually perfectly in keeping with what had come before. So, if she wants to fault the film's aftermath of the sex scene, she should also be faulting that aspect of the original and '91 shows, too.
