It was probably a dialog blooper on Jonathan's part
Barnabas mentions that
Jeremiah and Laura were married, but there's no mention of a child. ...
Update!!! I am just now watching the episode where Barnabas reads from a book how Laura died. To quote directly:
"Laura Collins. Died, January 25th, 1875 (I'm sure he meant 1785). Cause of death, fire." He also says that Jeremiah was very upset to hear about her death.
Um, I thought
the marriage ended when Laura burned to death in a fire. Didn't Barnabas say her death was the greatest sorrow of Jeremiah's life, or words to that effect?
I thought that
Laura and Jeremiah had a child that she came back and claimed. Isn't that what Barnabas told Charity(?) in 1897 after he met Laura and remembered her from when he was a boy of 10?
I thought to myself: "Be strong! Be adamant! Be like Barnabas!"
Thats one of the problems with the revival series, Daphne was made into a vampire and staked by the sheriff and police with the full knowledge of her family and the town. They also were aware there was another vampire around who made her that way. Yet they did forget this fact and everything was hunkey-dory-- they even had a gala costume party not too soon after this!
Carolyn dated Joe and Chris, and both are related to her if I'm not mistaken!
They copuld have had his ghost be invisible or cloaked but what they did was really bad writing.
BUT IMHO as the writers had depicted this character, Barnabas was not ready for anyone. He had an ideal, a dream that carried him through his 175 year lockup which sustained him with starry eyes. But he always fell in love with someone at first sight and he had many first sights. He was a romantic but I don't know if he could have been happy with any of them.
It is very difficult to jump into a board as established as this one
