kathryn leigh scott erroneously stated in one of her books that the only criterion for reciting the voicoever was that one didn't appear in the opening scene.
Sadly, that's but one of too many erroneous statements made in the PomPress books.
As for voiceovers, I think I agree with Gerard that Thayer's were my favorites. The really interesting thing, though, is how different certain actors' voices sounded while doing them - often very different from the characters they were portraying. It was enough to make one wonder at the time if we'd ever heard their real voices on DS.
And, no, I never really got tired of "My name is Victoria Winters" either.
It somehow made those early voiceovers seem as though we were hearing many of Vicki's deepest thoughts and fears - as though she was writing them in a diary.
