If I think something might interest me, I tend to avoid reading reviews until after I've seen it for myself. And besides, though reviews can sometimes be a good reference tool, they're not always necessarily a good reflection of whether or not something will be successful. I mean, just look at the TV shows that had huge buzz and great reviews this past season, yet they tanked after airing only a few episodes. :- Yet, initially, many were less than thrilled with a show like, say,
Heroes, and it's not only artistically successful and highly rated - it's become a full-fledged phenomenon.
(And let's not forget that if reviews always mattered in the film world, someone like Adam Sandler would have been in the unemployment line years ago!
