I read the review Jimbo mentioned.  No direct link but it's on this site:

http://www.aintitcool.com/

Although it is technically spoiler free, it *is* a review of the movie.Depp, Pfeiffer, and Moretz all get high marks.

It seems as if the characters of Angelique and the original-concept Burke Devlin have been combined here, interestingly.  Angelique is described as a "literal witch" who "uses boardrooms as her cauldrons."

cheers, G.

Wow.  "the Barnabas Collins character is the property of Warner Brothers."

So much for the days of "this has been a Dan Curtis Production."

KMR, that article is a typical example of the UK Daily Mail's stripe of "journalism" (read: hack phrase-making pandering to the absolutely rock-bottom lowest market denominator).  My friends always refer to the rag as the "Daily Fail."

Some people do read the thing regularly for the tacky camp entertainment value.  The typical Fail piece is a lurid description of some troubled pop-tart with a name like Britney, JayHo or Tina on a major drugs and drink bender, illustrated with paparazzi snaps of the celeb looking like death warmed over with anatomical parts hanging out of minimal clothing and badly misplaced makeup.

At least the photos in the DS puff piece are decent.

A fan who bought the megaset just posted a video showing how the box looks, the episode guide, etc. on Youtube:

Don't you mean 1977?  We lost Thayer in 1978.

Just how "major" is Thayer's role in this?  I've tracked down a number of his appearances from this period where he had maybe five lines of dialogue, if that.

He was a very busy actor in the mid Seventies.  And I still miss him like Hell.

Vicki really has a Maggie Evans look in that shot of her standing at the bottom of the grand staircase (from the "Playlist" website mentioned a few posts above).  I hadn't really noticed this before, but I am definitely noticing it now.  So are we sure that her previous employment prior to her arrival at the Great House wasn't that of a waitress at the Collinsport Inn?

I also hadn't noticed that they seem to have copied the great clock, or at least one of the caryatid ornaments from the clock, for the set decor.

A friend also sent me links today of reviews on DVD Talks of the inaccurately named "Fan Favorites" DS set (I think of the titling as misleading, as we have heard nothing about any polling of fans on our favorite episodes to craft this selection), and the "Best of Barnabas" set (9 episodes, each with a very short intro from Lara Parker).  I only had time to glance quickly at the reviews--I think they were done by the same critic who gave very high marks to the megaset.  He pointed out that only diehard fan completists should bother spending money on the "best of" sets and in one of the reviews pointed out that the selection would be like sending a friend a few favorite chapters--or even pages from chapters--of books in the Harry Potter series. With no context, the excerpts don't really make much sense to the casual viewer.

I presume the "Fan Favorites" set also has intro segments for each show, but don't recall seeing mention of who taped those.

That's a very cool interview.  I guess Karlen had forgotten about the Night of DS restoration project at that point.

Interesting to read one of the interviewers saying she had talked to KLS who thought that a DS movie was not a good idea at the time, too.

Thanks so much for sharing this!

If you hand the waitress a dime for her tip, just remember to tell her not to spend it all in one place.

Thanks Ms. C!  What fun!  I heartily approve that DJ Cyclonus will open his set with "No. 1 at the Blue Whale," and no doubt patrons will also swing to the "Carolyn Collins Stoddard Frugette," aka "Back at the Blue Whale," aka "David's Radio."  I heartily approve of tracks by Siouxie and the Banshees, The Sound of Liberty, The Misfits' legendary "Dark Shadows" all about the lost & lonely at Collinwood ... sounds like a truly memorable evening!  THESE people need to take over the Festival programming!  I do still wonder what "DJ Charlie the Slut" will program.  A special set needs to be dedicated to the original villain of the series, the debonair, gloriously sneering Roger Collins, for those who cherish the gloriously monochrome afternoons of 1966.

I think it's a sweet touch to include the 1991 series as well so that fans of that get to feel included.

Thanks again for the link.

I wonder whether the DJs will spin either DS music, or songs with DS themes... such as that Book of Love song "Witchcraft" with the line "Angelique takes Barnabas from Josette!"

Could be fun!  If you go, do let us know your impressions.

Prof Stokes, I would love to hear your report about the Graham-Smith appearance.  I wonder whether there will be crowds of people in zombie parade costume given his association with the "zombie" genre.

The guy is hotter than a pepper sprout (to quote Nancy Sinatra) in H'wood at the moment.  I wonder whether it will last.

If she would hire a professional researcher and editor to go over her books, errors such as this could easily be avoided.

But then I've said for years that editors are going the way of the dinosaur... and English is now my favorite dead language.

cheers,

G.
