If you don't want to know the circumstances surrounding today's entry in this slideshow, then don't read any further...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #939 (1970) - Barnabas - 'I MUST kill him. Now.'

From "Robservations 5/14/03 - #938/939 - A Tale By Fireglow; A Lawman Named Sheriff"
Barnabas enters as she's arranging the roses into the vase and comments how pretty they are. I came to see if you're all right, he says. I feel much better today, she says. You have an admirer, I see, comments Barnabas. It appears that way, she agrees.  You don't sound very convinced, he says. I'm  not, agrees Carolyn--he's a very strange, impetuous young man. What's his name? Barn asks. Jeb Hawkes, she says--he's someone I keep meeting, accidentally, first at the antique shop, then on the terrace. Barnabas doesn't look happy.
So he's the one who has upset you so much? he asks. How did you know I was upset? she asks. I came in after you went upstairs, says Barnabas, Maggie told me--she's worried about you. She needn't be, says Carolyn, I'm sure the incident meant absolutely nothing. What kind of incident was it? he asks. She laughs--you shouldn't start worrying about it. Carolyn finishes arranging the roses and takes the vase away--I'm getting some water for them, she says. Barnabas picks up the card that came with the roses and says to himself, if I don't stop Jeb, there's no hope for Carolyn. I must kill him--now!

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1032 (1970PT) - Maggie - 'I MUST get out of this place, but how, how?'

From '#1032/1033: Robservations 07/23/03: Back to PT; "I'll Make You Love Me"'
Maggie rises from the cot and tries the door--I must get out of this place, she tells herself--but how?  If only I felt stronger--no, there might be a way. If I can persuade him to take me out...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1098 (1970) - Quentin - 'There MUST be something else I can do. She MUST leave this house.'

From "#1097/1098: Robservations 09/09/03: Barnabas Grills the Kids"
Quentin re-lights the candle on the table. I did what I could, he tells himself, I tried to send her away--I'll still try--there must be something else I can do. He looks up. She must leave this house!

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1160 (1840) - Judard - 'You MUST listen to me and repeat every single word I say.'

From "#1159/1160: Robservations 11/07/03: Shocking Revelation; Another Death"
there are certain mysteries pertaining to life and death he says, that will make a difference of your life--and living.  Teach me them, she begs.  Do you really want to know what they are? asks Gerard--you must start and there is no turning back--you will never be able to leave our little group.  There are others? she asks.  You will never be alone again, he promises.  Oh, if only I could believe that, she says, disbelieving but hopeful.  You will, he assures her.  You frighten me a little, she admits.  You have a right to be frightened, he says, if I say a few more words and you run out of this room, well, then you are my enemy--and I am not kind to my enemies.  She tells him she will not be an enemy--teach me the mysteries.  You must listen to me, he says, and repeat every single word I say.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #873 (1897[-1841PT]) - Quentofi - 'Sometime you MUST tell me how you have accomplished all that you have. I shall wonder about it until you do.'

From "Robservations 4/1/03 - 872/873"
Quit denying the truth and admit we are enemies. "If you wish-Count Petofi," says Barnabas, with a rare smile. I didn't expect you to find out so soon, very clever, says Q, you must be extraordinarily clever man, or you wouldn't be here talking to me-sometime you must explain to me how you have accomplished all you have. I shall wonder about it until you do. Barnabas says he'll wonder how HE accomplished all he has. There's one power he has that Barn doesn't, says Q, this rather innocent looking hand

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly...

And the first "must" line in the excerpt does indeed come up in the scene, so no doubt it will show up in a future installment of the slideshow.

And this is the second quote from this ep. The first (Lady Kitty - 'Now you're not a stupid man, Mr. Collins-- far from it. You MUST be aware of the effect you're having on me') was back on June 16th of 2024.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "Ep #873 (1897[-1841PT])" before and in that case it meant that the quote should have come from an 1841PT ep, but because there are no longer any 1841PT eps that haven't been quoted from, an alternate version of DS is being used instead. In this case that alternate version is the 1897 storyline and a quote from its Ep #873 is being used.

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #745 (1897[-1841PT]) - Jenny - 'Get out! Quentin is coming, you MUST NOT see him.'

From "Robservations 12/18/02 - #744-745 - Barnabas & Jenny"
Downstairs, Magda and Sandor hear the noise and run upstairs to investigate.  Jenny is sobbing; Magda recognizes her voice.  As Magda bangs on the locked door, Sandor finds the keys on the floor.  They let themselves in and Magda runs toward Jenny, who screams, "I told you never to speak to me again!"  We were so worried about you when you disappeared from Collinwood! Cries Magda.  GET OUT! rants Jenny--Quentin is coming, you must not see him.  Quentin went to Collinwood, says Sandor.  I told you yesterday I would kill you both if you told him! shouts Jenny.  That was years ago, says Sandor, mystified.  Jenny is confused.  No, she says, it was. . .no, it wasn't.  "Quentin and I are married," says Jenny--"Do you have any idea what it's like to be a Collins?  I am a Collins, Quentin loves me."  Magda points out what Quentin has done to her.  Jenny orders her not to speak to her like that--don't talk of Quentin--YOU GYPSY!  "You are a gypsy, too," says Magda.

The Robservations references the quote perfectly...

And this is the third quote from this ep. The first (Jenny - 'I MUST wait. He said that. I MUST be quiet and wait. I don't want to wait. He told me to. I MUST') was back on January 17th of 2022, and the second (Magda - 'We MUST find her. We MUST-- she has a devil in her!') was back on August 30th of 2023.

And just a reminder, we've seen a notation similar to "Ep #745 (1897[-1841PT])" before and in that case it meant that the quote should have come from an 1841PT ep, but because there are no longer any 1841PT eps that haven't been quoted from, an alternate version of DS is being used instead. [spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1166 (1840) - Desmond - 'That has nothing to do whatsoever with this case. The charge here is witchcraft. And as unjust as I may think it to be, I MUST insist that we adhere to this charge.'

From "#1165/1166: Robservations 11/13/03: Gaslighting Daphne"
Desmond asks that Sam's testimony be stricken from the record.  On what grounds? demands Dawson.  On the grounds that she is a prejudiced witness, says Desmond--and her allegations have not been borne out--on the contrary, it has been shown here that Quentin Collins is the hapless victim in this matter, and the only purpose for holding the seance was to try to put Joanna's soul to rest.  Dawson tells the judge that Mrs. Collins' testimony does not constitute the whole of the prosecution's case, but it is vital to the overall information I intend to bring forward.  Desmond says that has nothing whatsoever to do with this case--the charge is witchcraft--and as unjust as I think it to be, I insist we adhere to this charge--and Samantha Collins' testimony has nothing to do with this charge!--anybody can hold a seance, anybody can try to communicate with the dead, that does not constitute witchcraft!  Dawson urges the judges to consider this decision very carefully.  Vail says the counsel may rest assured they will.

The Robservations references the quote almost perfectly - though it does not include the word "must" - shameful...

[spoiler]Today's quote:
Ep #1041 (1970PT) - Inspector Hamilton - 'But you MUST admit, his position is rather shaky.'

From "#1040/1041: Robservations 07/29/03: Quentin in Dutch With the Law"
From the doorway, Angelique gasps--Bruno's dead? I'm afraid so, says Hamilton. I don't believe it, how did it happen? asks Ang. That's what we intend to find out when we question Mr. Collins, says Hamilton. The Inspector thinks I did it, says Quentin. Angelique feigns surprise--oh, no! The charge is only suspicion of murder, Hamilton reminds Quentin, I haven't stated flatly that you did it, because I don't know, but I did discover you standing over the body. "I don't believe that Quentin could have murdered anyone!" says Angelique defiantly. I sincerely hope you're right, says the Inspector--I must admit, his position is rather shaky. Angelique walks to the other side of the room. Shall we be going? asks Hamilton. May I have one last request before I go? inquires Quentin. Depends on what it is, says the Inspector. I'd like to take some things with me, says Q, if I'm going to be the guest of State overnight.

The Robservations paraphrases rather than directly quotes - plus, it shifts the focus of the "must" line from Angelexis to Inspector Hamilton...
