... when it comes to the next entire sequence of Scenes 218 though 220, it's apparently a mystery as to whether or not they were ever shot. Darren Gross wrote on his NoDS Restoration Web site that not only wasn't the sequence part of the recovered footage, but even though the scenes were "blocked in the director's notes, it is unknown whether this sequence was actually shot. Not a single still photo from this sequence has yet turned up." ...

That was then, but almost a month later new info was posted:

A few notes I can share... scenes 218-220 were indeed shot- they're included in a daily shooting report I have. ...

And what's also interesting is that the call sheet that I came across earlier this year and have been referencing also lists Scenes 219-220. Apparently they were also shot on April 5th:

(Click here for a 880X910 version)

Of course, just because a scene is listed on a call sheet and/or a shooting schedule doesn't 100% mean it would be shot because there are cases of that with regard to the shooting of hoDS where scenes listed never were actually shot. But in this case there is paperwork confirming they were shot...

If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of today's quote -

Page 103/Scene 222 - Tracy: 'There's nothing in here.'

- check out -

Moving on to start the next sequence as scripted:

- this post for Scenes 221 -222 as scripted - and check out -

Scene 221 does indeed begin with Quentin and Tracy descending into the basement and coming toward camera. But before we actually see them, we see their shadows -

- this post for how they actually play in the film with much added dialogue and changes to the descriptions and directions...

The still version -

 - a majorly cropped version of which appears on the cover of The DS Movie Book.

And an alternate version -

(Click here for a 700X476 version)

- that so far as I know has never been officially published anywhere.

And there's also various versions of this -

... the actual still of that photo, which I'd completely forgotten I owned, so here's a scan of that because it's the best version of the still:

- which I've also shared in Reply #22...

A rare still associated with Scene 222:

(Click here for a 700X612 version)

It's interesting to me that there are several stills of Quentin and Tracy from this sequence down in the basement, and there's this one of Tracy solo, but I've never come across any of Quentin solo. Though, of course, that's not to say they don't exist...

Digressing from the current scene and speaking of Lobby Cards (which we were in Reply #692), I suspect all DS fans and certainly all NoDS fans are aware of the 11X14 sets of Lobby Cards for NoDS (and hoDS), but I wonder if all those fans realize that there's also an 8X10 set for each film with the same photos? Although, the photos are somewhat cropped for the 8X10 sets.

The 8X10 sets were displayed in theater lobbys that didn't accommodate the 11X14 sets. And here are just a few so that you can see a comparison between sets:

11X14 #3

8X10 #3:

11X14 #6

...

(Click here for a 930X738 version)

...

8X10 #6:

However, what fewer fans may realize is that there's also an 8X10 B&W set of totally different stills. That set will be coming up in my next post...

 - that were all posted at one time for sale on eBay but have since been archived on worthpoint.com. I held off on sharing these until the slideshow had passed all the scenes depicted...

I forgot to mention yesterday, and you may have noticed on your own that all the stills I posted yesterday are numbered:

----------------------
|         ||         |
|   #05   ||   #42   |
|         ||         |
----------------------
|         ||         |
|   #34   ||   #16   |
|         ||         |
----------------------

----------------------
|         ||         |
|   #36   ||   #32   |
|         ||         |
----------------------
|         ||         |
|   #17   ||   #07   |
|         ||         |
----------------------

-----------
|         |-----------
|         ||         |
|   #43   ||   #18   |
|         ||         |
----------------------

I have a theory that the number reflects the order in which a still was taken, and it may also reflect the order in which the corresponding scene was shot. The second part of that theory stems from the facts that 1) the still with #1 is this one:

...

(Click here for a 672X543 version)

and as we know from the "Film Begins With A Funeral" article in the NoDS Pressbook, the funeral was indeed the first sequence that was shot, plus 2) other photos that were published during early production also have low numbers. (Unfortunately, though, not every print of every still is numbered. In fact, I'd say that around half of the stills that I own are not numbered. Though with some of them I have come across a numbered print online...)

If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of yesterday's quote -

Page 104/Scene 225 - Quentin: 'She's in there! We've got to get her out!'

- check out -

Picking up Scene 223 as scripted, dealing with Scene 224 as scripted, and moving into the start of Scene 225:

- this post - and check out -

Getting back to the parts of the script that were dealt with in reply #547, when Quentin reaches the door, he actually says -

- this post to learn about all the major differences in Scenes 223, 224 & 225...

(And ignore the references to "yesterday's and today's quotes" at the end of the second linked to post because this time around those are today's and tomorrow's quotes.)

Just for anyone who may not be following the other linked posts and therefore may not come across these, I want to share this series of posts:

And as an aside, once again I never noticed something until I was getting captures for the slideshow. Can you spot it in this post? If not here's a capture from an upcoming moment from Scene 223 that should help:

The only thing that seems noteworthy to me is a continuity problem with candle flames.  Or, possibly, the candelabra switching hands.  (But I'd have to watch the scenes play out to determine if that's what it is.)
The only thing that seems noteworthy to me is a continuity problem with candle flames.

That's pretty much it. As we can see in the following capture, when Quentin calls out -

"Tracy!"

in Scene 223, his breath blows out the candle nearest to him - but in the same scene when he shows up after having rushed to the door to the room where Tracy is trapped, all the candles on his candelabra are once again lit -

- so I guess we're supposed to believe that as Quentin was rushing to the door, he was also relighting the candle!!  [b003]

It's amazing how much one can miss when one is really into a scene and not paying attention to the little details...

A still associated with Scene 224:

(Click here for a 560X700 version)
The Famous Monsters of Filmland top caption reads:
"SCREAM,
TRACY,
SCREAM!"

The bottom caption reads: "What she (Kate Jackson) sees is enough to drive
her crazy!
The Daytime TV caption reads: "Tracy screams as she sees the spirit of
Angelique approach her in kill attempt.

A cropped and horizontally flipped version appears as part of Famous Monsters of Filmlands' NoDS article, and a cropped to just a head shot version appears as part of Daytime TV's NoDS article, the article I've already shared several photos from (and there are two rare ones to still come...).

And an extremely rare version of Tracy screaming appears as part of -

- the Herald featured in the NoDS PressBook...

If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of Tuesday's quote -

Page 105/Scene 227 - Claire: 'Oh, my God, it was the same thing!'

- and/or yesterday's quote -

Page 105/Scene 227 - Tracy: 'It was so horrible...she was here!...she was here!'

- check out -

Picking up Scene 225 where reply #550 left off and repeating a bit:

- this post, and to also learn about notes Grayson made in her script regarding Scenes 225 & 227  - and Darren Gross confirmed in this post -

Happily all the above mentioned material (not the Grayson notes) is in the director's cut, ie: Alex and Claire running to help, Claire's line, Alex and Quentin interaction, etc.

When I'd put together the graphic for Tuesday -

- I'd used a crop of Claire from this rare still -

(Click here for a 1000X780 version)

- which so far as I'm aware has never been published anywhere...

(Note that David Selby is wearing his coat again - and Nancy Barrett is also wearing one...

And more rare material from Scene 227, starting with this -

(Click here for a 1000X772 version)
DS Movie Book caption: "Night: Deleted basement scene with
Quentin (David Selby), Tracy (Kate
Jackson) and Claire (Nancy Barrett)."

- which so far as I'm aware has only been published in a tiny version in The DS Movie Book (and it along with yesterday's are more of the ones that I bought at Ohlinger's back in 1996) - and this -

(Click here for a 874X650 version)
Daytime TV caption reads: "Quentin and Claire (Nancy Barrett) try to
comfort Tracy after Angelique's attempt
to kill her. Claire is wed to Alex (John Karlen)."

- which, as you've probably deduced from the caption, appeared as part of Daytime TV's NoDS article - and this -

(Click here for a 700X562 version)

- which appeared as part of the Fest's 2012 NY Weekend Program book.

(Note that David Selby and Nancy Barrett are wearing coats in the middle one...)

If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of yesterday's quote -

Page 105/Scene 228 - Quentin: 'The brick! That was the sound! The sound of brick being laid.'

- and/or today's quote -

Page 106/Scene 229 - Quentin: 'So this is why Laura was laughing at the funeral. They were burying an empty coffin.'

- check out -

Moving on to the next two scenes:

- this post, and to also read a lament on why, oh, why didn't DC include Scene 229 in the 129 minute version of the film(?!), and to learn how DC added a line to the end of today's quote even though he never included the scene he added it to(::))...
