If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of yesterday's quote -

Page 99/Scene 213 - Tracy (O.S.) (screaming): 'Gerard!'

- and/or today's quote -

Page 99/Scene 215 - Alex: 'Well, it looks like the old BMT will be running late tonight.'

- check out -

And once again picking up the action with the next scene in the sequence:

- this post and to learn about the differences in the dialogue, the descriptions and the directions and to see a deleted moment from the end of the sequence thanks to the fact that it appears in the 2 minute trailer...

Back in 2016 I'd shared these two rare stills from this sequence:

... I want to share two rare publicity stills:

...

Oddly enough, I have no memory of where the top one comes from. I can tell from the scan that it came from a magazine article, but for the life of me I couldn't locate which article. Apparently I still have some NoDS stuff around here that I've yet to come across. But given how frequently I seem to come across stuff I've forgotten about, that's probably no surprise to anyone, including me. But what I can say is I know I first came across it as part of the Herald featured in the NoDS Pressbook:

As for the bottom one, I own the still. However that scan isn't a scan of my still because I didn't own a copy in 2016. Apparently it was scanned from some other source, and again, I have no memory of what that source is. Though quite possibly it's located wherever the source for the top scan is. But be that as it may, here's a scan of my copy of the still:

(Click here for a 700X537 version)

You may recall that a colorized portion of that still is featured on one of the Italian Lobby Cards that I shared back in Reply #493...

And finally there's this still from this sequence -

(Click here for a 700X548 version)
Famous Monsters of Filmland saption: "Tracy gets into a fight between Quentin & Gerard
and knocks Gerard off the railing of the bridge."

- a cropped version of which featured in the Famous Monsters of Filmland NoDS article  - it's also part of the Mexican Lobby Card series -

(Click here for a 700X534 version)

And this is also a case where you may recall that a colorized portion of that still, flipped horizontally, is featured on one of the Italian Lobby Cards that I shared back in Reply #493...

If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of yesterday's quote -

Page 100/Scene 216 - Quentin: 'I'm sorry Trace. I'm sorry for everything that's happened.'

- and/or today's quote -

Page 100/Scene 216 - Tracy: 'Oh, please, Quentin...please don't go back in that house.'

- check out -

Moving on to the current scene, and it's not on the list of unrecovered footage - so it may be in the 129 minute version:

- this post...

Scene 216 isn't on the recovered footage list that I recently came across. But interestingly enough, as I alluded to in that post and which I've just checked again, it's also not on the list of lost scenes not included in the 129 minute version. So who knows?  [idontknow]

Even though the slideshow has moved on to Scene 216, I still have some material I want to share related to the shooting of Scenes 206 - 215.

In this post I'm sharing three behind the scenes photos Darren Gross had shared on his now defunct NoDS Restoration Web site (along with his original captions):

David Selby chatting with
the crew between setups on the set
of NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS.

I could be wrong, but it looks to me like James Storm is sitting next to Selby.

James Storm puckers up for a kiss after being doused with stage-blood.

Make-up artist Reginald Tackley liberally applies stage-blood to James
Storm in order to create the effect of a glancing bullet wound. Please note
Alex Jenkins' (John Karlen) as yet undamaged car behind them which
Gerard will later drive off the road. (Photo courtesy Yvonne David.)

It's interesting that they had yet to shoot Scenes 193 - 196 when the second and third photos were taken because, as we know, Gerard doesn't get shot by Claire until after he's forced Alex off the road. But then in films so few scenes are shot in order...

If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of yesterday's quote -

Page 100/Scene 216 - Quentin (softly): 'Tracy, try to understand the way I feel. I have such a tenuous hold on myself that --'

- and/or today's quote -

- check out -

Continuing with Scene 216:

The current series of graphics -

- have been created with a crop of this -

- which appears on page 161 of the DS Almanac Millennium Edition, which is the only place I've ever seen it shared. I've never come across the actual still anywhere...

A behind the scenes candid which could also be associated with the shooting of Scenes 206 - 215, current Scene 216, or even upcoming Scenes 217 - 218 (though there's some mystery as to whether or not Scene 218 was ever shot - but more on that when we get to it):

(Click here for a 620X780 version)

I've never seen any source cited for this. It could also be one taken by Yvonne David (who, BTW, was the head of wardrobe on the film), or it could be someone entirely different. If it is someone different, I have my suspicion as to who it might be - but more on that in a future post associated with Scene 217...

If you want to learn about or refresh your memory concerning the background of yesterday's quote -

Page 100/Scene 216 - Quentin: 'But I don't know how long I'll stay this way. There's only one way to end it. We've got to go back in there and face it down --'

- and/or today's first quote -

Page 100/Scene 216 - Tracy: 'What about Carlotta?'

- and/or today's second quote -

Page 100/Scene 216 - Alex: 'I don't think we'll find her.'

Wrapping up Scene 216, beginning with yesterday's quote, Quentin's response to Tracy's latest lines -

I didn't think that any of Scenes 212 - 215 had been cut by CBS - and surprisingly enough none of Gerard and Quentin's fight was cut. But I finally got around to listening to the tape and comparing it to the film just to make sure nothing was cut, but something was. Quite strangely:

Cut from The CBS Late Movie showing:
  • ...
  • After Claire and Alex join Tracy and Quentin on the railroad bridge and Claire reaches out to Tracy to comfort her as she says Tracy's name, CBS ends the scene. Missing are the last four seconds where Tracy pulls away from Claire and walks off with Claire following her, leaving Alex beginning to move closer to Quentin, who still stands looking down in the direction of Gerard's body.

Cutting that for time is about the only reason I can think of for the edit. And now I'm wondering if there are any other short trims like that that were so short that I didn't even realize they were made. After all, CBS would have had to cut something like 20 minutes from the film for it to fit with commercials in the 90 minute slot they aired it...

Before we can deal with Scene 218, which will be the one to come up in tomorrow's slideshow, we need to deal with several things related to Scene 217. First up, check out -

Moving on to the next scene, which is something of a rarity in this section of the script because it does actually appear in the current version of the film, though not entirely as scripted:

- this post to learn about how Scene 217 was scripted, about an added voiceover, notes Grayson made in her script (and the thing that she wrote that's missing in that post is that the desperate fear that Carlotta has is that they will take Angelique away). And then there's -

I forgot to mention that when Quentin's "There's only one way to end it. We've got to go back in there and face it down --" from Scene 216 came up on the 1999 Movie Calendar for December 8th, rather than use it for that day's installment of the original NoDS slideshow, I...

- this post, with more to come...
