I gotta post this one. I just received a mock-up of the cover of The Nightmare Frontier from the artist (Chad Savage), and I about crapped a load of bricks. Scared me slap to death.  ;D

For those of you who read my "unofficial" novel, Dark Shadows: The Labyrinth of Souls, the "Xianges arachnid" in that is a close cousin to the critter on this cover.

Happy barfday, peoples. :)

Agreed; I don't find it offensive, and yes, it's somewhat amusing. Dan was a public figure and even in death is open to such quips, though whether it's in good taste is debatable. It didn't sound cruel; more a relatively good-natured jab. If Dan's survivors were to find it offensive, they might be within their rights to request an apology; but if they aren't, I don't think it's anyone's business to be offended on their behalf. Just MHO, but I imagine Dan might have even appreciated the irreverence of the remark. ;)

Heartbreaking news. Time does a terrible march onward.

I was a big fan of Dr. Who in the late 70s, early 80s, but I never watched any of the ones after Peter Davison. I did catch this week's ep on Sci Fi, and I was quite pleasantly taken with it. I expect I'll keep watching.

I may actually be involved in a Dr. Who anthology the BBC is putting out later this year. We shall see...

Updated the Dreams of the Dark section. Needs a bit of cleaning up, but it's late, I'm tired, and I'll get to it tomorrow. For my author stuff, I copied and pasted the Wikipedia entry and axed a bunch of code.

Sarob Press has just announced that it will be publishing my latest novel, and has put up a promo page for it, with general and ordering info: THE NIGHTMARE FRONTIER*

This will be a beautifully designed hardback, issued in both limited and deluxe editions, signed by ye author. Additional details at the Sarob Web site.

"...Mark Rainey's THE NIGHTMARE FRONTIER is the Good, Real Stuff. From its powerful opening in the jungles of Vietnam to its nerve-wracking finale, this novel never releases its grip on the reader's nerves, brains, and heart."

*Yes, it IS scarier than Paul Stoddard grinning at you from a coffin.

For all its shortcomings, I enjoyed the Leviathans, at least in the beginning. There was a creepy edge there, and having Barnabas back as a meanie was much-needed at the time. I've always disliked the fact that he was -forced- to be wicked. He had plenty of ruthlessness inside anyway, and I prefer his natural vampiric evil to his being a pawn any day. I admit to some prejudice in this regard, though; as I've said here plenty of times, when I first got to watch DS on a regular basis back in its original run, the Leviathans episodes were just starting up. I look back on these with great fondness, and it was only later -- in the mid-70s -- that I got to see the earlier episodes. I'll take the Leviathans over Adam any day... Never was there a more tedious subplot, though I give Robert Rodan a lot of credit for playing the part better than it deserved.

Barbara Steele's always been a class act in my book. Like her a lot, and I thought she did quite well playing Dr. Hoffman as she did.

I've always liked Roy Thinnes a lot, too, particularly in The Invaders back in the day. Haven't seen the show in I don't know how many years, but I'd love to check it out again. Just the other day I watched Journey to the Far Side of the Sun, the Gerry & Sylvia Anderson SF production. Still a visually impressive movie, and Thinnes is fine in his role. (I'm a sucker for the Anderson productions; currently working my way through the UFO series on DVD.)

I listened to segment 1 last night, and it sounds like some folks are having maybe a little much fun. Stop it. There is to be -no- fun. Period.

;)
