Ah, yes, I remember that poster. I never knew what it was for, but it looked pretty creepy. Still does.

Moody Blues... my favorite group out of the 70s. Can't count the number of times I saw them in concert. Raineypark, a rock topic... what a great idea. ;)

That was a different transition that I was trying but decided I didn't like.

I did. ;)

Connie, what has happened to Mark Rainey's story Labrinth of Souls.  You speak as if there will be no more chapters.  I was waiting for some more.  Did it not get finished??????

Hi Afan,

I'm still working on some other writing projects, and it's taking a lot longer than I originally anticipated; it's kinda good, in its way, because the first project opened the door for a couple of others, which hopefully will wind up being quite lucrative. On top of that, I've got a convention to attend next weekend (Trinoc*Con in Raleigh, NC), and several other traveling engagements in October. It's going to be a busy month.

At least the week in the Caribbean will be for pleasure. ;)

WHEW! Thanks for the logo fix, MB! It's like the kind of relief you feel after Connie's been quiet for three days and then she posts some kind of a big honking episode of photos and captions and suddenly all is right with the world again.

The card-style sliding of the page is kinda neat and doesn't eat up time. Bravo. ;)

One thing I've been doing for a long time, even before the need for "drastic" measures, was putting my most commonly used coded items into a text file on my desktop (like the scrolling signature), so that when I want to use it, I just open the text file and copy & paste the appropriate code, modifying it on-screen as desired. Saves time anyway, as far as I'm concerned, since everything's already right there for you.

Dear Midnite is there something wrong with the
board?  When i get onto it it scrolls real slow and
takes a few minutes for the " words  Darkshadows
Forums" to appear . Is it  me perhaps???

Y'all go to Testing 1, 2, 3 and read the topic "New Forum Logo" for an explanation of the problem.

Well, whatever else Connie does in life, we know that there is at least one thing for which she is uniquely suited.

Just when did our continually escalating demand to have everything faster and quicker progress to the point that having to wait an extra 18 seconds became intolerable? Does this foreshadow a time in the not too distant future when having to wait, say, 8 seconds will be similarly intolerable? If so, what will society be like 50, or even 10 years from now? Personally, I shudder to think...

MB -- 18 seconds once isn't bad; but the cumulative effect when you start changing topics does get outright time-consuming. For example, I had a message waiting for me when I logged in earlier; in the time it took for the logo to load, I ordinarily would have already accessed the message, finished reading it, and probably been working on a reply. No joke. I don't care if it's ten seconds or three minutes, I prefer to be productive in that span rather than twiddling my thumbs waiting on a graphic I've already seen over and over again. The end effect is that it adds nothing positive to the experience of being on the board.

It's not simply a matter of wanting something now, it's more the relative benefit of cost versus product. In this case, the cost is increased time, and the product is eye-candy that, after having been experienced once, is superfluous.

Hey MB, Midnite,

The logo shifting from negative to positive image is an interesting effect, but it's not worth the extra 10-15 seconds per topic that it takes to load. It's really killing my ability to go through topics at a reasonable pace. Is it just me?

Anyway, I vote to go back to one that allows faster browsing. This is waaaaay too much of a time sink.

Heh, must've been a short chat. I just went over there at 6:25 central and it indicated it was over -- or perhaps after a certain time, late arrivals are not admitted. Anyway, I had submitted a question to the effect of: "If a new DS production were a possibility, would it feature new ideas or be another retelling of the Barnabas/Josette tale? I think most viewers -- and not just the hardcore DS fans -- would love to see something fresh and progressive rather than yet another retread." Dunno if it was used, or if others posed the same question. If someone who was there can enlighten us....?

We've got several receipts from WTC (which I'd kept to write off the trip), matchbooks from Tall Ships and Windows on the World, ballpoint pens with the Marriott WTC logo on them.... just a bunch of little, ordinary things that have taken on a whole new, grim significance. Needless to say, those things are now keepsakes, not to be tossed.

One of them was Francis Lai's theme to A MAN AND A WOMAN, which is sort of an old favorite of mine. There are quite a few versions of it around, though I think the one used in DS was Lai's original.

I'd most want to talk to my Dad, who died a year and a half ago.

Recently, I was with my brother, and he told me that he was at Mom's place a few weeks back, and he was sitting outside alone. Mom was out for a while, so no one else was at the house. He said that he suddenly heard the sound of Dad's wheelchair in the sunroom just above him, and when he went back inside, he had the most wonderful feeling that he was not alone.

My brother is even more pragmatic-minded than I am, and he said what he heard was plain as day, no mistaking it. Whatever, it was an absolutely moving experience for him. Perhaps he really did have a moment of contact with my dad. If so, then I consider him blessed.
