Good observation, Prof. When I saw PHANTOM OF THE OPERA a while back, I was struck by the fact that Emmy Rossum might make a mighty passable Josette. ;)

I just watched the 91 series DVDs again a couple of weeks ago, as I had begun to pine; I've always thought Julianna McCarthy was really, really good -- as lovable as Mrs. J. as she was sinister as Abigail. A fine bit of casting.

I seem to recall this place having shown up on this forum before, but I think with a little work it would make a smashing Collinwood for Johnny Depp. I don't like the idea of a CGI Collinwood, which is what I fear they might choose.

It's an abandoned girls' school in Millbrook, New York, I understand.

This site has some additional photos of the house for making e-cards:

If any of you are in traveling distance of Elizabeth City, NC, I'll be at Page After Page bookstore next Saturday (Nov. 10) from 2:00-4:00 p.m., primarily to sign copies of my latest novel (Blue Devil Island). Unfortunately, I don't have any more copies of Dreams of the Dark, and since it's out of print, I doubt the bookstore will have any. Regardless, I'll be happy to see any of you that might be able to drop by. Several of my other books will also be available.

Bob, didn't you hear? I just killed you in my latest tale. Very gruesomely.

Charles -- from my recollection, you were not at all rude about DREAMS. Some folks got downright nasty about the way things went in the book they didn't agree with. All fans have their own unique perspectives, and some of them feel theirs is the -only- correct one. Someone who respectfully presents his or her point of view to a writer is likely to be taken seriously; someone who gets unduly emotional is less likely to (particularly since the subject involved here is fiction, as opposed to some life-altering issue in the world). The writer in question here appears to have had his own points to make and made them the way he chose to. One doesn't have to like it. Nor should one get particularly hot and bothered over it.

Your efforts to help preserve DS are indeed appreciated. I, along with many others here, I'm sure, thank you for doing it with real passion.

No kidding. Calling the writer a "creep" for some perceived snub is immature and undermines any credibility the poster might otherwise have.

(You should have heard some of the crap I got from overly rabid fans because Julia Hoffman didn't appear in DREAMS OF THE DARK. Hoo boy.)

However, any writer whose work is put in front of the public must be prepared to take what comes his way. It's part of the job...

Much agreed about Jourdan's DRACULA. In fact, I just blogged about the thing:

Ah yes, you know what -- you're quite right. I was thinking when we went to them we headed straight toward the Irving property on the longer trail. Last night, as I was looking at the map, it seemed farther than I remembered, yet the aerial view of the "ruins" looked right. It's been eight years, I think, since going down there, so my memory is the foggy one.

The ruins are just south of the main house and stables. From the stables, there's a walking trail that goes into the woods, and the ruins are on the right (the river side of the trail), I'm thinking about four- to five-hundred yards down. They're pretty hard to see with all the foliage growing over everything.

Tell you what, I'll make an aerial composite of the site and label it.

Here tis.

Always nice to see such a piece from someone who gets it.
