I haven't watched last night's ep yet because I was out almost all day yesterday (yes, shocking as it may be to some, I do leave my computer from time to time ), but ratings-wise the show has remained "a relatively strong performer for the network, particularly among women 18-34." And we all know that networks/advertisers - especially the CW and their advertisers - love their 18-34 women viewers.

Would it change anything if I said that it wasn't like I wasn't online for part of the time I was out because I was online for a few of the hours? I was helping out with the Web site for the school where I do volunteer consulting work.


But getting back on topic, after watching ep #2 I am now officially on board with this show because I thought the second ep was even better than the first. They've definitely ratcheted up the vamp elements. And I love the house they're now using as the Salvatore home. But that won't surprise anyone who remembers my topic from '04 about my dream Collinwood because the house they're using on TVD is very reminiscent of the house I posted as an example of my dream Collinwood. Though it's much smaller. But it still has Gothic atmosphere in spades - both inside and out.

Good heavens, Stan Hywet Hall is the first good reason to visit Akron that I've ever seen.  Those hyacinths are fabulous!

Thanks, MB!  I'm thinking of going there next spring - and oh, the joy of telling people, "I'm going to Akron for my vacation!"

I didn't think Ian looked botoxed up.  His face looked mobile to me.  In fact I wondered how he was gonna play a ageless vampire for the long run.     If he is botoxed up that may work in the end.  Anne's vampires are very much like marble in a way! LOL

Yes MB....I thought the pilot had several nods to DS old and new!   I am so hooked on this show.  It keeps getting better each week.  I wonder if Vicki and Caroline are nods as well??

His face looked mobile to me.

His facial expressions are some of the best things about his performance - particularly when his character is taunting his brother. Those scenes are some of the best in the show.

I agree. And it's good to see that the show continues to do well despite greater competition from shows like Survivor, Bones and FlashForward.

I don't know. I was in a bookstore the other day and picked up a couple of the books that the series is based on, but I only read the back synopses because I didn't want to know too much in case the show decides to follow the books fairly closely. Though even if the Vicki character does appear in the books, who's to say that L. J. Smith didn't intend it as a nod to DS - and as sort of an anti-homage to DS because TVD's Vicki is a spitfire. 

I've been enjoying this series as well. Much more so than I expected. There are definitely some not-so-subtle nods to DS, most notably the Josette (or in this case Katherine) angle, which made me as soon as I saw it. I kind of hope they do some flashbacks showing us what happened with Katherine and the 2 brothers in the past. Either in an extended DS way or in a briefer Forever Knight way. I kind of think of TVD as a sort of "DS: The High School Years" at this point, and as such I'm enjoying it. And as a classic vampire fan, I'm also happy that most of the traditional vampire myths have been kept (the "a vampire cannot enter someone's house unless they've been invited" thing, for example). And I have to say that Nina Dobrev who plays Elena (and hopefully Katherine in flashbacks) is stunningly beautiful. She's almost as lovely and enchanting as Joanna Going.

I'm looking forward to seeing where the series goes from here.
