I have to say that I love the way the storyline is developing, with twists that were never used on DS but one in particular that might have to be used if there's ever another DS series--[spoiler]the girlfriend knows.[/spoiler]Next week's ep should be quite interesting - both for what will happen in the present as well as what we'll learn about the past because they're doing a flashback to the 1860s. I can't wait.

It's also good to see that now that the DVR+7 ratings are coming in that the show is doing even better than the same day viewing numbers were showing.

I couldn't agree more MB. :) They've really kicked it up a notch these last 2 episodes. I almost think they're going too fast in some ways, but it's still really great stuff. And much like MOONLIGHT, which I initially wrote off as just a FOREVER KNIGHT rip-off, the show keeps getting better each week. I loved the 1864 flashbacks and the unexpected twist revealing how the brothers became vampires. [hall2_shocked] Just great stuff all around from the DS inspired elements (relunctant vampire, ~reincarnated long lost love, brothers fighting over the same woman, witch, etc...), and a nice blend of classic and modern vampire mythology, and new twists and turns around every dark corner. I'm definitely hooked and I can't wait for next week's show. Long live The Vampire Diaries.  [blackbat]

Something that I find absolutely fascinating is that 54% of TVD's measured audience is watching the show online. About 3.8 million watch on Thursdays nights on the CW. About another 0.8 million viewers DVR and watch within 7 days. But 5.4 million are watching online via the CW's Web site. And that last figure doesn't come from the CW itself - it's being reported by Nielsen VideoCensus. (Though the reason why such a larger percentage is watching online may be due to the fact that the CW still doesn't have stations in every part of the country.) And interestingly, TVD ranks as the 7th most watched show online.

Just in case anyone else is interested in such things, this is how the Top 10 breaks down:

The producer of The Vampire Diaries says in this article that his show is a take on Dark Shadows. Sorry to say that I have not seen the show yet so I can't add anything here.

Well, I can add something.  [hall2_wink]  That's a great article (thanks so much for posting the link, jimbo [hall2_smiley]) and, yes, TVD could be considered in many ways to be modern day DS. Even though there are a lot of differences, there are also a lot of similarities. And as the show evolves, it becomes more DS-like. Anyone who only watched the pilot would probably be quite surprised by how the show has changed in only 5 subsequent eps.

If you've already seen last night's ep: Vampire Diaries Shocker

Although, I can't say I was all that shocked because [spoiler]Vicki was TVD's Daphne from the '91 series - though at least Damon didn't just toss Vicki's dead body aside like Barnabas did with Daphne.  [hall2_rolleyes]  And there was an attempt to teach her - which is something fans have complained that Barnabas never did with Carolyn in hoDS or Daphne in the '91 series.[/spoiler]

And as for the end of tonight's ep, apparently the "secret" group of townspeople in Mystic Falls[spoiler]aren't quite as knowledgeable about vampires as we might have been led to believe if they didn't take precautions to make sure Logan didn't make a reappearance. Though I suppose the passage of all that time when the town was vampless has caused them to have become less schooled in vamp defense doctrine.[/spoiler]But then, that's good from the vamps' POV.  [wink2]  After all, what fun would the show be if[spoiler]the group were all-knowledgeable?[/spoiler]None when we're supposed to be rooting for the vamps.  [lghy]
