Something else that needs to be discussed concerning Ep #4 (Hour 5) is how material that was shot was dropped and material that was shot for other eps was included.

Sharp-eyed viewers have probably always noticed that Wayne Tippet's name appears in the guest credits but Dr. Fisher is nowhere to be seen in the ep. That's because whatever he did ended up on the cutting room floor though either his contract or union rules required that he get billing even if that happened. And when it comes to at least one scene he shot, photographic evidence exists in the form of the following stills:

I've always presumed that the scene had something to do with the family learning from Sheriff Patterson about Prof. Woodard's fate. But who knows? And if that is the case, who knows why Dr. Fisher was there? But unless someone comes across the script, I suppose we'll never know what transpired in the scene...

Also, I've already mentioned that the scene this quote comes from -

Ep #4 - Elizabeth: 'I feel as if some dark cloud is
descended over Collinwood.'

- was inserted into Ep #4 after it was shot for Ep #2 but never included in that ep. However, when it comes to Ep #2 we do see a scene of Liz and Roger and several scenes of Roger wearing the same clothes. And perhaps we're supposed to presume that it was so much fun for Liz and Roger to wear the outfits together that they decided several months later to wear them together again during the events of Ep #4. Though somehow I doubt that really would have been the case.  [snow_laugh]  Plus, I really doubt it was all that fun when they wore them in Ep #2 because it was on the night they were trying to trap VampDaphne, which is what Liz' mood actually referred to in the context of Ep #2's script.

And once I get the chance later on, I'll go into how several dropped scenes from the pilot were incorporated into Ep #4...

All of the quotes from the next five posts all come from a sequence that was actually shot for the pilot but didn't appear on the show until Ep #4 (Hour 5):

Discussion about the quotes featured in this post begins in the pilot script topic with the following post:
Setting up the next sequence: ...

Page 94/Scene 211 - Vicki: 'Well, David. You're here early.
I didn't know you liked history so much.'

Page 94/Scene 212 - Vicki: 'What's in there? Another one of
those awful spiders?'

Page 95/Scene 212 - David: 'No, Miss Winters. You told me
never to do that again.'

Page 95/Scene 212 - David: 'You sure you want to see?'

followed by the script explaining: ...

Page 95/Scene 212 - Vicki: 'David, open it up.'

Page 95/Scene 214 - David: Scared you, didn't I?'

Page 95/Scene 214 - Vicki: 'May I see it?'

Page 95/Scene 214 - Vicki (CONT'D): 'Where did you get this?
It's very pretty.'

... followed by yesterday's second quote - ...

Page 95/Scene 214 - David: 'There's a lot of 'em.'

Page 96/Scene 214 - David: 'In a room. I... I'm not
supposed to go there... (then, nervously) You're not gonna
tell my father, are you?'

Page 96/Scene 214 - Vicki: 'No, David, I'm not going to
tell your father. But I think we had better put this painting
back.'

Page 97/Scene 219 - Vicki: 'But who painted them...?
Surely you must...'

this is?'

Page 98/Scene 225 - Vicki: '... It wasn't locked.'

Discussion about the quotes featured in this post begins in the pilot script topic with the following post:
... followed by the script explaining: ...

Page 98/Scene 225 - Roger: 'You have no business doing
that, Miss Winters, and absolutely no reason to come in
here!''

Page 98/Scene 225 - Vicki: 'I'm sorry. We didn't disturb
anything, as a matter of fact I was just admiring...'

Page 99/Scene 225 - Roger: 'You weren't hired to admire
anything! Your job is teaching my son, not breaking into
areas of this house and our lives which don't concern you!'

Page 99/Scene 225 - Roger: 'This room... and everything
in it... does not exist...'

And if some of the quotes in these five posts seem different from the show, that's because they're from the script. Some of them were delivered differently on the show. Check out the linked to posts for details...

Preview of Ep #5:

And here's a January 23rd voiceover over the closing credits of Hunter:

And here's the opening of Ep #5 as it played on the east coast at exactly 30 years ago today:

(Though it didn't play until 10pm on the west coast...)

I'm sure they had their reason(s) but who knows why they dropped the opening clip then changed the next clip in the previews section during Ep #5 from what it was during the previews at the end of Ep #4? Dropping the house is perhaps not too surprising, but it's interesting how the next clip was swapped out...

Enjoy!  [snow_smiley]

Ep #1 (Extended) - Carolyn: 'It'd be, uh, kind of tough to
 leave, you know, right now.'

Discussion about today's restored scene featured in the slideshow begins in the pilot script topic with the following post:
... Though when it comes to the next scene, there was one bit of dialogue short of a complete rewrite - and we'll get into that in the not too distant future...

And remember that if you want to follow along with what was being said and/shared back when this slideshow first appeared for 2011th's 20th anniversay, check out
Today marks the debut of yet another new slideshow: the '91 DS Series 20th Anniversary Year Slideshow. ...
And for the post about today's entry, check out
... Anyway, the current quote is from the only extended scene in the 2nd half of the pilot: ...

Today's excuse in the slideshow -

Ep #1 - Willie: 'I fell.'

- has to be the best, and by that I also mean the worst excuse ever in any version of DS to cover a vampire bite! I LOVE IT!!

Though Willie is partial to using the excuse that he fell to cover other things as well, as we'll discuss later in the slideshow. Apparently it's his catch-all excuse.  [snow_wink]

Preview of Ep #6:

And here's a January 31st promo:

And a promo from February 1st:

I was never quite sure if that one painted the series in a way it should have been painted. But then, NBC didn't consult any of us, now did they...

And here's the opening of Ep #6 as it played on the east coast at exactly 30 years ago today:

Obviously whoever wrote the copy for that recap wasn't associated with the show because anyone associated with the show would have known Barnabas did not turn Carolyn into a vampire.  [snow_rolleyes]

Enjoy!  [snow_smiley]

I've always found it a bit strange that the previews for Ep #6 (Hour 7) includes footage that was still in its shot day-for-night stage and not color corrected:

And Ep #6 introduced a new commercial bumper as its third bumper of the night:

Enjoy as well!  [snow_smiley]

Look - a "MUST" quote from the '91 Series' pilot:

Ep #1 - Mrs. Johnson: 'All I can say is Barnabas Collins
must be a wonderful man.'

I wonder how many others there might be...

Preview of Ep #7:

And here's a February 7th voiceover over the closing credits of LA Law:

And a promo from February 8th:

It's interesting how the promo changes the preview's "Next week, Victoria is trapped in 1790" to "Next, see Dark Shadows from the very beginning," no doubt to try to attract people who thought they may have missed too much...

And here's the opening of Ep #7 as it played on the east coast at exactly 30 years ago today:

Who knows why they implied Barnabas was going to tell Victoria his secret because he had no intention of doing so. But then I think the previous ep's recap copy regarding Carolyn pretty much established that whoever was writing the copy for the recaps couldn't possibly have been associated with the show.  [snow_rolleyes]
The opening also includes the new version of the theme including Lysette Anthony's credit...

Enjoy!  [snow_smiley]
