However, having stopped watching "The Forsyte Saga" after episode two (though not primarily because of the acting, although I couldn't take any more of the Irene character), I would have to say that DS is a lot more fun (than Forsyte) at this point!

Oh really? I'm enjoying it immensely! Up to last Sunday I hated Irenie AND Soames, but now she is getting better. I do think it is hilarious that putting a soap opera in period style makes it classy! (Ok the acting and the writing is better than most soaps but the story line is just trashy fun!)

I took it that he was commenting that  the mercenary nature of the two enemies would lead them to unite the moment it would be to their benefit to do.

What a handsome picture! That was really lovely, thank you for sharing it. And interesting that he came by an Irish brogue honestly. I always thought it sounded pretty good, but I'm not enough of a judge to  have felt secure in saying in so.

What really pi$$es me off is that a large part of the commercial breaks during DS are devoted to Sci Fi's own self-promotion rather than paid-for advertising; so they are not making cuts for the sake of raking in extra sponsor dollars but rather for their own promos. >:-(

And yet, they NEVER promote DS at all. I think a substantial number of people would be start watching if they only knew that it was on. It is on at an odd time, and most people who work don't scan the tv guide for shows when they aren't home to watch them (though they may tape them if they realize it is something they like). And those who work will never by chance come across it, since it is always preempted on a holiday. WHY NOT a Dark Shadows Marathon, I ask???

After 18 years in Arizona, (8 in Phoenix, 8 in Prescott)

GAK! I must have read this four times before I realized it doesn't add UP! Well, it was either 9 years each or I was gone 16, without checking I'm not even sure!

Now, don't you all think that drapes in the tower room would be such a GOOD THING? Gosh, it is ever so hard to keep a good family secret without them! I suggest black velvet would be in keeping with the mood of the room and serve the purpose in a decorative way.

Why do you think that they couldn't match Naggie, oh, excuse me, RACHEL's hair? Heck, I got a much closer match on a fake ponytail at Target! Love Rachel's reaction to Quentin's friendship. When he said they would start tomorrow and she asked start what, I thought I'd crack up. What were YOU thinking about, girl?!! Not that anyone in that position would be thinking anything different!

Isn't Carl a hoot? What fun. LOVED Barney's face after Carl left the room. Just the right amount of irritated "What the hell was that?" expression. OK, he messes up lines, but you have to admit that Frid does  an admirable job of keeping character. And I bet that was one scene it was hard not to crack up doing.

That's okay.  My sister thinks Shakespeare is boring (there are times I can't really see how we're related [crazd] ).  I guess individual taste will always remain an unsolved mystery.

Have her watch the Roman Polanski/Hugh Hefner version of "Macbeth". It is ANYTHING but boring!

Their father was Geoffrey, he was in the cast credit list as a name that was only referred to. I looked for a similar entry for the mother and didn't find one.

Who do you suppose is the Daniel that grandmama "saw" in her room while Edward was visiting? And Does anyone have a clue as to why she would be afraid "to go" with him in particular?

SPOILERS

I am the wrong person to be answering you, half of the time I get it wrong. But, my understanding is that she was talking of the grown up Daniel who was played by David Henesy in 1797. In 1840 he was an adult,  played by Louis Edmonds and was Edith's father in law.  I don't think she was afraid of him because he was dead, she seemed to think that a deceased ancestor would come to show her the way. She wanted a different one than Daniel, perhaps she feared Daniel would lead her to the WRONG resting place. He was a rather mean old cuss.

That's how I remember it and how I interpreted it today. Hope you get to feeling better soon!

Ah...my old brain has been put to some good use!

It certainly has, Rod! It has been bugging me for some time now, the intro was really haunting and honestly, those images and the music has NEVER left me. In this time of old classics being on dvd or being re-aired, the possibility of seeing it again was enticing but impossible if I couldn't come up with the name! I am happily going to go do a search on it now. Thanks, ever so!

Do I take it that "12 Monkeys" is not one of your favorites either? Love that movie. There is no way that anyone could ever smooth out all the time wrinkles in the DS fabric, but let me get a few.

Barney reacted vehemently to Phyliss Wicke because he recognized her and he was afraid. Seeing someone you knew almost 200 years ago COULD do that to you! Didn't further his purpose because she could have been told he was a descendant of the original Barney. It was just the same reaction that Vicky had when she thought she recognized someone. Only in her case it was over, and over, and....

I personally don't think time travel has to adhere to strict rules. Vicky could have been returned to five minutes after she left or a week. Time being relative, just because she was gone __ # of weeks, doesn't mean that she would have to be returned __# of weeks later. Same with Phyliss, she could have been returned at time she left, or later as she was. If there are definate rules about this, I do so hope someone will set me straight. I would HATE to be poorly mannered in such matters. Given Einstein's theory of time moving differently for the guy on the rocket ship and him coming back a few years older to an ancient wife, I don't think this is all as ludicrous as it sounds. Or as it really is, I don't know.

For the change in story line, I think the writers used a little diversion tactic to get out of a sticky wicket. There was ONE reference to Carolyn no longer wanting to kill Julia and then no reference was ever made to Carolyn knowing Barney's secret again. Live and let non-live, I guess was her motto. OK, for that part of your questioning, the answer is they cheated. Though for Vicky, while she did RETURN to the same moment or shortly thereafter, she herself had been gone long enough to forget Burke and fall in love with someone else.

I would think that Janet Findley IS alive and never was called to Collinwood. My guess is that Ezra wasn't long for this world, either way. Later, when Quentin eventually shows up in Collinwood, noone gasps and runs away in mortal fear. So I think his ghost had ceased to be.

As for Eagle Hill Cemetary, it must be right next to Wyndcliffe! Either hours away or just a short walk, have your pick. I don't think the time travel created THAT inconstancy.

Nice work, indeed. I could see these being produced and sold at conventions! [idea2]   [greed]

Is it just me, or does Roger Davis look like Christopher Walken?

No offense kiddos, I just suspect that you wouldn't be familiar with:

What was the scifi/horror show in the sixties or seventies that began in an empty amusement park at night? I think the camera took you through the park, then on the roller coaster. And a very creepy and effective intro it was!

I am finding myself wondering if it reruns on Scifi, but since I can't remember the name, how would I know? It is amazing the things that bug you when you are too old to remember them and yet not old enough not to care....
