I just started rewatching these today. I didn't originally watch the show until Barnabas brought it to great popularity, but I had caught them on SciFi several years ago and loved them. I agree the pace, the outdoor shots, so many elements bring a grace not found later on. And you don't get the kitchen or dining area later on, for some reason I adore those sets. I guess it makes Collinwood a home instead of just a grand mansion.

What is REALLY striking me is the superb casting and interplay between the characters. The actors flow right into their parts from the first that they appear. Of course, we all know Joan Bennett WAS a grand lady and couldn't have been any more perfect, she is the consummate professional. But the young girls really are too, it seems a high standard given the taping conditions. Carolyn IS a spoiled brat of a rich girl who is lonely, but trapped there by her love for her mother. Her first scenes with Victoria ring so true. Nancy Barrett, Alexandra Moltke, Joan Bennett and Louis Edmonds all act so seemingly natural. If Alexandra was nervous it disappeared into the character's apprehension and worked beautifully. David Henesy just as much so as the others, and that is remarkable given his age and what I've seen of other child actors that make you spit up in your mouth a little.

This is the only soap opera I ever watched for myself. But I do remember my grandmother watching soaps and it would have been the same time period as the first DS episodes. I remember hokey overacting and even as a child it all seemed stupid and over the top. I'm not getting that here, at least not with the main characters.

She told me, she scolded me! I am amazed anyone but Minja even REMEMBERS me....but I guess I assume everyone else has as faulty a memory as I do.

Actually, I've been doing very well. So well that it was hard to keep up with everything. I will try to do better about that. Thanks for the good thoughts!

Wow.  >:D What great news! I've been away for soooo long, I finally saw Minja last weekend and she suggested I come back to the forum. And I get this news!  :D

I ALSO today got word from Amazon about the DS Beginning Collections becoming available and preordered them. I'm REALLY excited about that too, it was so cool when Sci Fi finally showed those episodes and now I can have them for my own.... [blob3] [blob5] [blob6] [blob7] [blob9] [blob10] [9251]

[91a2] (How apropos, a horny little devil!) For those who still remember me, an update! I'm sorry I have been so bad about keeping in touch. Forgive me for having a life after all these years, but I'm rather reveling in it.

I am now a Mrs., we eloped to Eureka Springs, Arkansas on July 28th. In spite of our enjoying talking like hayseed hicks for two weeks prior, the spot is actually lovely as can be. Nestled in the mountains, it is an old Victorian mining/resort town that is now a honeymoon haven. We stayed in a very nice cottage, got married and had wonderful pictures taken for one low package price.

BTW, LOVE what is going on with the site, great work!

The kids are with their dad for the summer, so we've been able to really enjoy our time together uninterrupted. We will have a religious ceremony blessing our nuptials soon with the kids and family included in that.

"There's God the Father, God the Son, and Grayson Hall ... and the first two better watch Their Step!" (my apologies if this offends any individuals in the audience)

Actually...I think that's hilarious!

her.

While the idea of living your entire natural life span young and beautiful is appealing on a certain level, it might also be lonely, couldn't it?  Watching other people around you age, and after a certain point you'd just be alone, what would that be like?  You couldn't really couple with anyone for life, because you'd never be able to explain why you never age without them thinking you're nuts.  No wonder she searched all those years for Quentin, knowing that he's one of the few who could understand.

Be sure and see the lovely movie "Tuck Everlasting" for a poignant study on just that subject!

I just have to chime in with my agreement of Hennesy's acting abilities. Personally, I think he is second only to Nancy Barrett, and that is saying something.

Thanks so much! It is a special time for me, but I will try to check in here, whether I watch my tapes or not! :-* ;D

I have to confess that I have barely had time for DS, I tape it and then neglect to watch. (The Leviathan story line contributes to this, it is my least fav.)

But, I have DO have a good excuse. I am getting married! I have found the person that I was born to be with. We have been friends for several years and growing ever closer all that time. We just have so much in common that it is uncanny. He is a dedicated Christian and my respect for him has grown and grown as I've watched him over time.  A love of horror films and the supernatural was one of the first things we discovered, so we always discussed that. He loves books even more than I do, though horror and theology are probably the only genres we share an interest in reading. When we began seeing each other away from church, we found out we had much more, such as both being artists (I don't do it currently, he has stayed with it much better than I) and enjoying writing.

Anyway, I have heard of a few great loves and read about them, but I never really thought it could happen to me. Or, at 47 years old, I had just given up on the thought years ago. He treats me so well, my kids like him and he is good with them, he even understands better than most my mentally ill son.  I have never been so happy in my entire life. Just wanted to share that with my friends here. I know several of you have great marriages and that has always inspired me that it CAN be done.

I used to work in advertising and my supervisor would build a radio/tv/magazine ad campaign, running commercials with continuity in order to take advantage of studies that showed how advertising best worked. Invariably the big boss would come in and say "I'm bored with it, let's change it."

I think that is exactly the way DC did business. To heck with ratings, continuity and logic, to heck with anything but his own whims.

Personally, I have always thought Josette to be boring and insipid AND that she and Barney had ZERO chemistry.

I agree that Kitty Soames is about the best part KLS has had and they blew it off in record time. But then, think what is just around the corner. Yecchhh.
