I would be for I-Ching wands - great at parties, amaze your friends!
P is for "cheap, insufferable Pig!"
(You just knew that was coming, right? [santa_azn] I missed it the first time around.)
P is for "cheap, insufferable Pig!"
(You just knew that was coming, right? [santa_azn] I missed it the first time around.)
You mean P isn't for Pen? [santa_shocked]
In fact, the pen avatar is going to be retired in the new year. This is truly tragic news. I love that pen avatar.
This is truly tragic news. I love that pen avatar.
X for the mark on the lottery slip that determined which family member would spend a night in the locked room of Collinwood (1841 PT)
LOL, Magnus. But Hoffman made the 1st go round, so H is for Hand of Count Petofi.
Leviathans, a more fun loving bunch of folks you'll never meet.
Next time around, if we run out of Z DS references, I want to use Zardoz. I just like thinking about that giant floating head. Plus it's fun to say. Try it.
Josette, you might want to come with another R. Racosi came up on p. 4.
D is for Dead....which a lot of people were at one point or another.
XUnbelievable.
The X in 8 X 10 (as in the 8 X 10 photos David developed of the picnic in 1970)
N is for Ned Stuart
(I'm reaching again. ::))
Not really. So long as it's actually in the show, it's not reaching. :)
F is for fake eyelashes.
I was well behaved and made no reference to someone who still wears them, tempting though it was. ;DF is for fake eyelashes.
I've been waiting to see how long it would take before you or Midnite would slip that one in.
Sabrina begins to moan. Who are you? asks Cyrus, are you the spirit who came to us six months ago. Let me go, she begs, twisting her head back and forth. You must help us, insists Cyrus. Let me go, she implores. She suddenly points to Alexis and says, "She's dying--can't you see, she's dying--murder, murder! MURDER!!!" Alexis collapses to the table.
And thanks for periodically adding the list so I don't have to go hunting for it. (wink)
G is for grandfather clock.I just had a Captain Kangaroo flashback. ;D
I just had a Captain Kangaroo flashback. ;D
S is for Stained Glass Windows... YEAH!
Z is for Zarco, member of the Romano tribe
Z is for Zarco, member of the Romano tribe
Um, I believe that was the ghost of Marco in Ep #826 - but we'll let it slide this time. And besides, Magnus was able to get Zardoz in. ;)
"Mateo, Zarco, all you of the Romano tribe who bore the honor and the glory and the power to stand up against our hated enemy, wherever you are, see this moment and make it your triumph, too.
(Thanks MB!)
Q is for the quagmire the writers would have been in, had they even thought about trying to continue present-day DS past BC and JH's return in 1971, after all the DS history they'd just cancelled out and rewritten. That leads very neatly into
Q is for the quagmire. Not wishing to spoil the fun, but . . . I used that word in an earlier round.
Well, shoot! I must have been left off the recap my mistake. Just checked and it wasn't there. Apologies!Q is for the quagmire. Not wishing to spoil the fun, but . . . I used that word in an earlier round.
Let's substitute quandary for quagmire. There were a few of those, as well.Q is for the quagmire. Not wishing to spoil the fun, but . . . I used that word in an earlier round.
I just wanted to point out that we are starting to repeat ourselves. For example, I put Humbert Allen Astredo under "H" (most of the names listed have been under the first letter of the first name) and someone else has put Humbert Allen Astredo under "A". This has happened in a few places.
I think part of the game is to know what has been posted prior to a new post - that is why Midnight keeps updating the list and posting it for us to see.
Anyone else think we should release a book with this in it?
X is for xenogeneticGreat word!
"A" hat's off to ILuvBarnabas, for coming up with another "L" when I stumbled in the last round. ;)
Gore.Al? (sorry, couldn't resist);D
And remember, it's a game-- for everybody to play! :D
Q is for questions asked by Professor Stokes.ÂI've been intending to use that one for weeks, but could never get in when Q was available, so...
U is for uvula, usually visible whenever Maggie or Carolyn screamed. It'd behoove ya to care for your uvula. ;)
Y is for yoyo.
Y is for yoyo.
Julia's medallion? ;)
Last round: Darren offered revulsion.
Last round: Darren offered revulsion.
Is it really the last round?
This is a real stretch....
As you can see, grave is a repeat.Man! I've really tried to be careful with that, too! Thanks for the tip, Midnite!
With the page containing the list open: Edit / Find on this page / enter the word you're checking for / Next. A PC can find what eyes might miss. ;)
M is for modern conveniences.....like phones, electricity, television, heat, all of which Barnabas refused to have at the Old HouseOT: I have always wondered if Barnabas ever gave in and had pipes installed, or if to this day one needs to seek the necessary house in the garden.... ;D
Barnabas once told Maggie in an early episode that Josette's music box came from the Orient.Made in China stamped on the bottom! >:D ;D
L is for Jack Long
S is for sphygmomanometer. Julia was so good that she could use one without a stethoscope. [9391]
X is for eXonerate
Heh, heh! I've used a sphygmomanometer by itself in a pinch to detect the systolic pressure by feeling for the return of the brachial pulse, so that could be what Julia was up to. I know, who cares? :)LOL. I don't remember her feeling for a pulse, but what I remember most vividly about the incident is my mother (also a nurse) having a cow about it. ;D
Conrad Fowkes
I am kinda stretching here, but what the hey I'll go for it....Z is for zipless, which is what a character became once they were bitten by a vampire
FireRose, it would be helpful if you could explain a little bit how you're relating some of your more obscure words to DS.
H is for hair, which Roger Davis loved to touch, grab, pull, stroke, muss, and otherwise molest. [silly]
Nauseating (Frid's & Parker's love scenes as Catherine & Bramwell)Ooh! Blasphemy! I love it! >:D
N
Nauseating (Frid's & Parker's love scenes as Catherine & Bramwell)
B is for (Mr.) Best.
Z is for zut alors, which is something Madame Guillotine aka Eve probably said in frustration to herself whenever Adam showed up.
No, she didn't. She said merde.
No, she didn't. She said merde.Actually, I suspect she said something even worse. But even in French I'm not going to type it here.
Y is for yanked from the airwaves, which is what DS was due to low ratings. [bawl]
V is for voice. Whenever Angelique felt the need, she didn't mind taking anyone's away.
O is for Olfactory, as in, olfactory appendages made of putty tend to fall off and not function very well.
O is for orgasmic = the sensation one seemed to have after being bitten and drained by the vampire (be it Barnabas, Angelique, Tom Jennnings, Megan Todd, Dirk Wilkins, etc.) - i.e., "Julia's facial expressions during her secret meetings in the woods with Tom Jennings were positively orgasmic."Â >:D
O is for orgasmic = the sensation one seemed to have after being bitten and drained by the vampire
K is for Kilometers: 160.9344 of them, which is equal to 100 miles.
H
Hawkes, Mr & Mrs (Jeb/Car)
I is for Iluvbarnabas, who started this fabulous game!
Nice try - but we can't really start using each other to keep the game going. ;)Aw, shucks! ;) Well, ya can't em all.
I is for Iluvbarnabas, who started this fabulous game!
Have one for T and U....I hope that's ok....
Mrs. Davenport never did get hers, did she?
Some letters will soon run out. ??
E is for Erica Fitz.
M is for Mel Handlesman, lighting director of DSHandelsman ;)
T is for "Three months of damn poor sleddin" (summer in Maine)Shouldn't that be T for Twelve in Collinsport?
Note: extremely, lovely, glorious, quite, and untimely have already been used.
R is for recasts, none of which went over very well with the viewers, the exception being the character of Willie Loomis from James Hall to John Karlen.I think there were some other recasts that pleased the viewers, but discussion of that would be off-topic, and I never go off-topic. Never!
T is for Todd Jennings of House of Dark Shadows
Again, to see if a word is already on the list:Neat! Somehow I hadn't seen that before.
Q = quadrennium the amount of years Jonathan was on DS, well almost missed by a few days.
Just a sidenote: it's been mentioned already that a different person should do the next letter....it would be much appreciated).
Repeating a turn if a lot of time has passed without anyone replying doesn't seem all that problematic, but I think it's important that no one dominates the game.
V is for vaccine, Jullia had many
Hey! You skipped R! [6184] I have one...
When I saw the Dream Curse during the original run as a child, it had elements which absolutely scared the zaboombas out of me. But then, I was a ten-year-old kid, and things were scarier back then.
B= bonjour, greeting in french. Josette must have said this at least one, or even Natalie
On Friday, April 2, 1971, Dark Shadows was kaput.
Well I don't think we can quite say that. Kaput has the connotation that something is utterly finished, defeated, or destroyed - words that don't exactly describe DS. ;)You're right, MB! I stand corrected... Actually, that date was when DS was kaput on ABC - during its original run! [winkg]
X is for Xeres - another word for Sherry
Xeres has already been used, sorry.
X is for Generation X - a lot of these youngsters would run home after school just to watch Dark Shadows.
(Wiktionary - The generation of people born after baby boom that followed World War II, especially those born in the 1960s and 1970s.)
O is for Opera - IIRC, Count Petofi listened to Opera (or was it Classical - instrumental with no singing?).
Q is for Quisling, which is what Barnabas was to the Leviathans.
I think I remember Petofi listening to opera, in Quentin's body, in the drawing room at Collinwood.
I think I remember Petofi listening to opera, in Quentin's body, in the drawing room at Collinwood.I remember Petofi and Quetofi listening to instrumental music, but never singing - though that doesn't rule out that the instrumental music itself might have come from an opera. [idontknow]
X is for XX - The chromosomes that women have. All the women on DS have XX chromosomes. [winkg]
X is for X chromosomes, of which it has been suggested that Erica Fitz didn't have a full pair.
I don't remember any cats on DS,
C is for Cat (the one Joshua was turned into)
Oh, yeah! That's right! I forgot! [6184] Maybe the cat /Joshua yowled, too! [winkg]I don't remember any cats on DS,
There was, and it even made the list:C is for Cat (the one Joshua was turned into)
:D
The word "Uncle" was specifically highlighted in the "Cousin, Uncle Jeremiah" entry, so it has already been used as a U word. We need another U word because we can't really treat Uncle, Uncle Roger, Uncle Quentin, Uncle Carl, etc as separate entries for Uncle. ;)
Z is for zapatos, the shoes Julia (HOO-li-a) wore on "Sombras Tenebrosas".
Or even if they can cite a scene in which ANY character mentions their shoes, we'll accept the word - though with one very important caveat: the scene has to have been a part of the syndicated episodes (Ep #210 - Ep #1007).
Since when has there been a "syndicated episodes only" rule in place?
So, MB - has the Z word been approved?
The witch trial judges were already covered.
Well then I'd have to say that "grand piano" didn't qualify either - because "piano" was already on the list...
As long as the name or word hasn't been repeated for the same letter, I've seen no problem with it.
S is for Sacreligious, which is what DS was accused of being in a religious tract published by the Jack Chick Company. Also, the portrayal of religious figures on the show could be interpreted as sacreligious.
However, this is the first time it's being used as part of the title of a soap opera. [cheesyg]
Y is for Never Too Young, the show DS replaced on ABC.
and other very bad people...
P is for Peter Miller, the executive producer who I believed replaced Robert Cobert.
Still need confirmation of the answer "Peter Miller."
J is for Jurgen's Hand Lotion.
M is for Midnite, our lovely and talented dsboards moderator extraordinaire!
I is for Iluvbarnabas, who started this fabulous game!
Nice try - but we can't really start using each other to keep the game going. ;)
I thought it might be fun if we did an alphabet from a to z with anything connected to DS (from character names, actor's names, places, objects, or your own perspective on such).
I was trying to post navy and just saw it after I posted
N can also be for Night of Dark Shadows. Or Ned Stuart.
T is for "Thunder and Lightening" which was abundant on Dark Shadows...
U is for Uloid - (adjective) resembling a scar. Adam had many marks on his face which could be considered uloid in nature. [cheesyg]
Hmm, but the marks on Adam's face were scars. Was there anything else on DS that could be considered scarlike? The marks on Robert Rodan's face, maybe?
U is for Uloid - (adjective) resembling a scar. Adam had many marks on his face which could be considered uloid in nature. [cheesyg]
Hmm, but the marks on Adam's face were scars. Was there anything else on DS that could be considered scarlike?
Picky, picky! Gee, I don't know... maybe the bitemarks on people's necks? [idontknow]
"You always win, Barnabas."
I guess it's getting harder and harder to find new words to use that haven't been used before! [winkg]
D is for The Dating Game - a game show which originally aired on ABC daytime TV from December 1965 to July 1973. Joan Bennett (Elizabeth, et al) was a contestant on that show! [cheesyg] She was the one who asked questions and picked one of the three bachelors. [hall2_wink]
2 people guest-starred in 1 episode of Kojak -- Dennis Patrick (Jason McGuire, Paul Stoddard) in 1974; David Selby (Quentin) in 1976. [hall2_wink]I watched it not too long ago! Also Paul Michael, Abe Vigoda, Emory Bass, Norman Parker, Gail Strickland, John Beal... Grayson Hall's appearance is one of my favorites. Blair Brown and Michael Cavanaugh, too. Ken McMillan did 3 eps, btw. Anyhoo...
Yearning is already listed. [8_1_1]
Z is for zingaras (which is a female gypsy, such as Magda and Julianka).
By the way, this topic has now been active for one year! The first post was on December 26, 2006. [8_2_59]Shouldn't you have used a milestone smiley for that, Sally?
J is for Justice League Unlimited - a TV cartoon series which originally aired on the Cartoon Network from 2001-2006.
Shouldn't you have used a milestone smiley for that, Sally?Oh, Yeah! Sorry about that! [milestone]
Zowie, the search went fast on the new host! On the old one, I had given up altogether on doing searches.
Of course, the deadhouse played a prominent role in Dark Shadows! [snow_wink]On DS it should have been called the undeadhouse. [snow_laugh]
Gabriel Collins was the quatrayle of ... and Joe Haskell. [snow_wow]
As no one else has mentioned this, I guess I'll point out that Joe isn't actually a Collins. There are several topics on the forum that deal with how/why Joe has to be related to Chris (especially) through the Jennings side of the family. There's also a family tree in both versions of the DS Almanac that shows this.Oops! My bad! [snow_embarrassed] I neglected to look in my copy of the DS Almanac and relied on an (obviously) inaccurate family tree obtained from an obscure on-line source. I always wondered about that. Thanks for clearing it up with me, MB! [snow_cheesy]
:)
Note: doctor, extremely, ... young, ... have already been used.
Is There a U.S. Window Factory Store in Collinsport?
D is for Dallas - ...[ghost_smiley]
Click to read the explanation given for the DS connection:
I don't *believe* anyone took David/Amy to the zoo.
Ivana tell you that her name is already on the list.Drat, I didn't notice that I had Match Case on when I did my search.
There were many occasions when the color red appeared on Dark Shadows
D is for dog. David once had a dog named Dog. We never saw a dog but often heard them.
By definition, this game is about things connected to DS. We have allowed outside roles/projects connected to DS actors, but if we open the game up to the names of actors/actresses/personnel who've merely worked in some capacity with DS actors/staff but have no other connection to DS, that's opening up the game far beyond its scope. After all, this isn't a Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon, er, DS type of game. ;)
