Somebody book me a suite at Wyndcliffe, NOW!

Over the past weekend, I took several breaks from catching up with various domestic routines to revisit set number seven of the DVD series.  In particular, the memorable episode in which an hysterical Julia discovered the *true nature* of Dr. Lang's experiment and was hollering into the phone to the operator to connect her to the police, "qu-HICK-ick-ick-icklyeeee, QUICKLY!" only to be told by Barnabas to "remember someone."

Despite the gaffe, I found Julia's next line to be beautifully understated:  "You always win, Barnabas."

Barn replies something like "We checkmate one another."

And Julia sadly and quietly demurs:  "No, you stop me but I seldom am able to stop you."

I thought it was a brilliant little moment, perfectly encapsulating a lot of the relationship between these too.... and it came in the wake of one of the most notorious blunders in the series' history!

Barnabas had a hand in killing 2 Vampires to save Julia.   Barnabas was headstrong, some of it having to do with his upbringing.

I think Julia cared to much  to stop Barnabas. She wanted to stay  with Barnabas and be his friend.   ::)  I would have liked to see her leave Collinwood. Barnabas would have been lost.   We might have seen that if the show went on.

"You always win, Barnabas."
There's a refrain of that towards the end of 1897: Julia says “Our work is done, let's skedaddle on home to 1969,” Barnabas says, “Not so fast,” and Julia says....

I think Sam Hall wrote both episodes, but I'm not sure.

I recently watched an episode in which Barnabas actually decided that Julia's way was better.  It was a pleasant surprise.

I'm so disappointed. I saw the subject line and thought this was going to be a tribute to the wondrous qualities of Bartles & Jaymes.  [8285]

Thanks for your support.  ;D

Those incidents are sure as hell few and far between!  ::)  [wink2]

Hmm, and now I'M thinking about a new Ben & Jerry's flavor - "Dark Shadows - Barnabas and Julia" - a Dark Chocolate Rocky Road (with nuts and marshmallow "seditives" and streaked with raspberry "blood."  [icecream]

Sounds like the perfect concoction for those two.  [lghy]

Thanks very much that gave me a good laugh.  [clap] [icecream] Thinking about it is not quite as fattening.

Gothick, the episode you speak of is indeed a classic - viva your avatar. I believe Julia's cries for the operator to connect her to the police was a Friday cliffhanger. Wouldn't it have been even richer a scene if - to Julia's horror - instead of hearing the voice of the operator, she heard the voice of Dr. Dave Woodard on the other end of the line!

okay, seriously, folks.

i think that barnaby treated our julia like dirt.   all that she did to help him and also keep him out of trouble and danger was all in vain for julia.

She kept a friend alive, and kept alive the people she lived with.   And she got to time-travel.    Friendship is undervalued.
