As some of you may know, I have Type 2 diabetes. The good news that it's under control with diet & exercise, and I don't need insulin injections.  However, there are a lot of many people out there who need injections, and even those who face vision, nerve and mobility problems due to the condition.  Perhaps you know someone close to you who is diabetic.

Well, on October 25th I'm Stepping Out for Diabetes in Manhattan.  The event will begin at 8:30 AM with registration, with the walk itself starting at 10:00 AM.  It starts at the South Street Seaport, going over the Brooklyn Bridge into downtown Brooklyn, through that neighborhood and back to Manhattan- a total of 4.8 miles.

OK- this is where YOU come in. Did you know that Thayer David and Criag Slocum (who played Noah Gifford and Harry Johnson) were diabetic?  Sadly, Mr. Slocum died of complications of the disease.  For them, and other people in the DS community who have suffered from this condition, you can help fight this condition that is more commplace than ever.  If you'd like to sponsor my efforts in this walk, please contribute at my web page at the American Diabetes Association:

I'm trying to raise $150 for the event- every bit helps!  Spread the word- I'm sure there are people out there who either have diabetes or know someone close to them with the condition (like me!).

Looks like no one over 30 works at that rag, which explains why so many shows from the 50s-80s were left out!

And where the hell does it leave us East Coasters?????  Come on, now!  If they're gonna pull that, they're risking losing a lot of support from fans on the East, especially from the NYC area.  Personally I've always wondered why DSF hasn't tried to split the difference and hold an event in Chicago!  That way the Midwest can get in on the action too.

An ideal solution would be to hold two small events on each coast the year the Burton-Depp flick is released.

Apparently she knows her movie vampires better than her granddaughter- wonder if she watched DS:

Hmmmmm- I suspect that Harvey Levin may be a DS fan!!  TMZ was certainly respectful of him compared to how they usually treat other celebrities.

It goes deeper than hairstyles: both Joan and Hedy were married to screenwriter Gene Markey!  He was also married to Myrna Loy, whose hairstyle was very much her own.

OK, but does the bus stop by the hotel?

Teresalita, I'm hoping for a miracle for you.

Since there's apparently hardly any stores nearby, what kind of food/snacks should I bring with me?

I think we should tell Darren Gross at the Festival!

Well, I've always held that it was Dan Curtis himself who made the initial decision to preserve the tapes, and now I have scholarly proof: in his new book on DC, Jeff Thompson clearly states it was Curtis' idea, owing to Curtis' career background in syndication sales before he became a producer.  He foresaw the viability of DS in possible future syndication- a market he knew all about.  So there.  Besides, he wasn't the only TV visionary who was smart enough to demand that their work be preserved by the network:  Jackie Gleason, Milton Berle, and Sid Caesar each demanded that kinescopes be made of everything they did, and as the Gleason example famously shows with the Honeymooners 'lost episodes' , it proved to be most profitable.  Let's face it: Curtis was determined to get a profit out of DS, and he did!

Personally, I don't understand the return to NJ after the way we were screwed by New Jersey Network years ago!  Why not Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Tarrytown?  Even my neck of the woods, Staten Island, has a Hilton adjacent to highways and shopping centers!  THERE SHOULD'VE BEEN A BETTER CHOICE THAN NEWARK!!!

133
The Festival should be giving out travel details with its mailings soon. Being that I'm coming from SI, maybe we can pool our resources and take the same cab there!

134
Driving?  Me?  I can't drive- no license!  I'm taking a cab, remember?

135
Well, I've decided to take a cab from Staten Island to Newark, and Lord only knows how much it will be to get there!
