« on: June 27, 2011, 04:03:03 PM »
Yes, it's hard to believe, but 45 years ago today Victoria Winters took that train to Collinsport and our world has never been the same since!  So do yourself a favor and play Episode #1 tonight and relive those first moments of the Collins saga.  Happy birthday! I just got the e-mail from the Warner Archive: this 1947 noir classic directed by Jean Renoir is coming to DVD at last!  The artwork on the cover is just great!

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but a few weeks ago I was diagnosed with a blocked artery and will undergo an angioplasty tomorrow. Hopefully all will go well and I'll be back at work in a week. Wish me luck.....

After decades (!) of attending DS Festivals on the East Coast, I am finally making my West Coast debut this month, barring any last-minute disasters.  Now, what should I prepare for in Burbank?  How are the accomodations at the Marriot and its surroundings?  I understand there's a Denny's across the street, but what else is there?  Should I be wearing a sweater inside the ballrooms, and insect repellent outside?  Should I bring food with me if the restaurants are expensive, and if possible, what snacks?  BTW, I'll be on JetBlue flying in (my first time on a plane!) from JFK- what to expect from this airline?

One of my favorite new websites is Life Magazine's photo archive.  I have discovered a good deal of stuff on Joan Bennett from her pre-DS days, and was hoping for something on Grayson Hall.  Well, there's nothing under her name, but I just finished reading the new Taylor/Burton bio Furious Love.  I decided to try looking for Richard Burton photos, and there's a whole lot of stuff from The Night of the Iguana, and THERE SHE WAS!!!  There is a photo of Burton with John Huston inside the tour bus used in the film, and there's Grayson resting face up inside the bus with her eyes open!  I wonder if Julia99 has seen it yet?

And here she is up close with Sue Lyon:

Well, we've lost another cast member from DS' first year.  Michael Currie, who played Constable Jonas Carter in the pre-Barnabas era, has died at 81.  Carter was the show's lawman before Sheriff Patterson showed up.  It's a shame Mr. Currie was never interviewed about his DS days or attended a DS Festival- I bet he must have had great stories about those early days of the show.
