Apparently this is an infamous day in history...

🚄 ON THIS DAY IN TV HISTORY 🚄
On Feb. 7, 1979, Supertrain (aka Love Boat on a nuclear-
powered bullet train) premiered on NBC. Despite
multiple retoolings, it only lasted nine episodes.

Poor DC. Well, not really...

Even though I remember watching it here or there (even entire episodes), I remember very little about it.

This episode featured Dick van Dyke in a villainous role.  Interesting to see that successful novelist Donald E. Westlake was credited as co-creator.

20 of TV’s biggest flops: Supertrain (1979)

I love this part: "this uninspired soap opera also took place on a futuristic nuclear-powered bullet train—why, you ask? No one knows"

Ha!  If I had to guess why, I'd say Curtis saw it in a dream.  [easter_wink]

Alas, Super Train lacked the charm of the Hooterville Cannonball.  [easter_wink] [easter_wink] [easter_wink]

Who knows why Supertrain has been popping up so often lately? Though they have hardly been flattering references.

Have you seen any of these these 10 terrible old TV shows?
3. Supertrain (NBC): 1979

(I wonder if I should be proud that the only one of the shows that I ever saw an ep of was Me and the Chimp - and that was only because I'd liked Ted Bessel on That Girl so I was curious to see what he'd be like in Me and the Chimp. But as much as I liked him, I didn't watch the show again. Who knows what he was thinking signing on to the show?!)

10 terrible TV shows we all secretly loved: 3. Supertrain (NBC): 1979

Considering the terrible ratings Supertrain got, I suspect there weren't that many people who secretly loved it. Certainly we didn't all love it!

I’ve never heard of this show.  It’s on my YouTube watch list now though.  I’m not sure how far morbid curiosity will take me in watching it though.

Even without watching . . . This could be a fun concept for a comedy movie.

There are some great movies set on trains. Murder On The Orient Express. Silver Streak. Strangers On A Train. Gracie Allen and Lucy Ricardo had some hilarious misadventures on trains. Super Train just never worked very well. There are a couple of episodes available for viewing on YouTube, though I don't know if the episode with John Karlen is one of them.

I just saw Murder On The Orient Express this year.  The others I’ll have to look up.  Especially the Gracie Allen one as I really enjoy the few episodes I’ve seen of The George Burns and Gracie Allen Show.

A comedy soap opera on a train doesn’t seem like it’s been done though.  And a remake of a failed tv show might get free publicity and be less likely to disappoint audiences.
