In his DVD Late Show column on Movie Poop Shoot, Chris Mills gives his take on Volume 17.  Halfway down the page, it begins, "And, speaking of vampires and Gothic horror..."

Don't let the logo and heading mislead you-- Mills calls DS "a surprisingly addictive diversion".  And how interesting that MPI provides DVDs for reviewers to sample.  In this instance, that garnered an online recommendation and created a new fan in the process.

Great to hear someone has actually sat down and watched it instead of going on memory. I propose a moritorium on the use of the phrase "campy soap opera" on all Dark Shadows reviews and articles for the next, let's say, 175 years.  [read3] [blackbat]

Hey cool.  Looks like a new DS has found another new fan with this reviewer (and his wife).  CyrusL, I agree, I'm tired of reading the phrase "campy soap opera" in every third article about DS.

What a wonderful review - but then it definitely helps that the reviewer had wonderful episodes to view. The climax of 1897 and the introduction of Leviathans are some of the best episodes DS ever produced. Thank heavens he didn't wait to stumble upon the DVDs of, say, the end of Leviathans.  [wink2]

It's standard practice for reviewers to get free copies of books or videos. It's usually one of the perks for what can be a tedious task. Sometimes if it's a larger publisher, it's a regular thing. Sometimes they seem to send them out directly to sites or publications.

Nice to see the show get such a positive recommendation :)

Here's a fun review of VOL. 18 on Movie Poop Shoot in which the reviewer's comments keep returning to talk of a certain blonde witch...

Nocturnal Admissions by D. K. Holm

An excerpt:  We are supposed to like the victim but really we like the victor. That's the thing with Angelique, back those many years ago. She was a winner: a home wrecker, a covetous cast aside woman who got her revenge. Who couldn't like that?

To read the review, scroll down to the DS title shot in the DVD Diatribe section of the page.

I bet Lara Parker would get a kick out of it.
