Happy Hallowe'en to all!

My Halloween celebration was Thursday evening when I hosted a reading of Edgar Allan Poe's "The Masque of the Red Death" for my book club (see photo - I was told I was unrecognizable, which is the only way I would upload a photo of myself!). It was enjoyable but I only wish I could attend that masquerade party at the Old House as was mentioned here a while back .. the one from the original series, still in B&W, where claret cup was served.

Scary movies or stories planned, anyone?

Last night TCM was airing the Val Lewton produced movies - "The Isle of the Dead" is perhaps my favorite movie of the genre though I couldn't watch it last night ... A couple of weeks ago they had "The Beast with Five Fingers," which was quite good (and far better than its title would suggest!).

I have been reading Kipling lately - a wonderfully diverse writer - a collection of his eerie - supernatural - horror fiction, edited by S.T. Joshi, is available from Dover books, and I may re-read "The Mark of the Beast" tonight.

I've DEFINITELY been binging on all the 'spooky' movies. If there isn't one I want to see, I pop in one of mine.
(Sort of embarrassed to say this, but last night, I watched, "Them".)

Tonight, it will probably be, "The Uninvited", or, possibly "Arsenic and Old Lace".

Plus, there's been beaucoup "Buffy" on all week; I'm watching it now!

Philippe, that's an excellent photo!  I love the MASQUE OF THE RED DEATH.  Basil Rathbone recorded it for an LP series at some point (early 1960s?) and the recordings have been digitized.  I think it's on YT.

I might park on the sofa later tonight with a 1965 British B-movie, DEVILS OF DARKNESS.  I just watched it again a few months ago but I'm in the mood for it tonight.  There's a fun party scene where various "degenerate" types bop around an arty interior to the sounds of jazz while devil masks leer at everyone from the walls.

On Monday evening I attended a 35 mm screening of one of my favorite films BRIDE OF FRANKENSTEIN (1935), at Brookline's Coolidge Corner Theatre.  It was very well attended and a very fun evening.

Best,  G.

Ha ha!!  I was trying to figure out what HHTA could be!!  Happy Halloween to all!!!  I've been watching a lot of the Decades Dark Shadows binge.  It's so much fun to see the old episodes again after so long without it.

It turns out I had "new" (old, not seen yet) horror movies in a box I was sent by a friend who sends video when I least expect it... but I didn't dig into it till November 1.... I'm being educated on Hammer...
