We had one of the 'premium' movie channels free this weekend; saw 2012 DS again!!

The main board (is that what we call the first board we enter?) show's a pic of JD's BC asking young Master David where the female coat attendant is.

Were women's 'outer-wear' called 'coats' back in late 1700s?

(For that matter, were men's?)

I saw the montage. Depp's line sounds as if he's asking for the coat-check girl at a nightclub.

Then again, a housemaid would have answered the door and taken his hat and cane (and an overcoat or cloak if he was wearing one). But he would have called her a housemaid, and opening the door for visitors would have been only one of her duties.

The coat check girl was a one night only employee who took the coats from all the guests attending Barnabas' happening.

Though that really was her equivalent position because for that one night Collinwood was a nightclub.

Uhh...let's get back on track...were 'outerwear' for women called 'coats' in late 1700s?

Outwear back in the 1700s would have most likely been capes. Though by the time the happening takes place at Collinwood, Barnabas would have certainly learned that in 1972 outerwear was called a coat.
