The Robservations Slideshow
« on: January 04, 2011, 09:13:23 PM »
For a change it's my turn to point out some of my favorite moments from a Robservations slideshow - namely the one for January 2nd:

I seriously doubt anyone couldn't feel some sympathy for the predicament Sam found himself in:

1967: Ep #136 - Sam admits he's terrified by the fact
that he feels driven to paint the woman in fire.

And I love it when Angelique realizes Jeremiah's ghost is on to her - not to mention how funny Ben finds her predicament.  [lghy]

1968: Ep #397 - Angelique tells Ben she no longer has
power over Jeremiah's ghost.

And that's soon to be followed by something many fans had no doubt been fearing might actually happen and dreading that it was:

1968: Ep #397 - Barnabas and Angelique are married.

And then what more can one say about this -

1970: Ep #918 - Liz plans to attempt to shoot Julia.

 - except that it's a fantastic scene? But perhaps only slightly overshadowed by the scene depicting (though sadly not on display in this particular capture) the orgasmic thrill that David quite obviously derives from reading the Leviathan book.

1970: Ep #918 - David realizes that the fact Liz was unable
to kill proves she's a 'true Leviathan' (which apparently
means there will be VERY few 'true' Leviathans around
before too long!).

And then for those who are into such things (and you know who you are  [wink2]), there's the sight of the dishevelled 'Grant', which is also a pivotal moment in the plot as well. Don't you love when that happens?  [b003]

1970: Ep #918 - Julia learns 'Grant' was at the High Hat
Lounge in Portland during the previous night's full moon.

A great day in DS history!  [thumb]

my mom lives in portland, maine so i'll have to give the "high hat lounge" a look next time i'm there.

the scene with liz walking around with a gun concealed in a gold shopping bag was almost as good as carolyn walking around her own house with a purse during the mcquire nuptuals. [santa_rolleyes]

Just a line to say--great atmosphere in tonight's scenes from the Laura storyline, MB.

It was lovely to track down this thread and find a snap from that scene where Liz has a little surprise for Julia in her special gold lame Ohrbach's shopping bag!  This scene is truly better than heroin...

I'm sorry I missed the day on the Robservations slide show when Julia had her own very special personal interview with Mrs Sky Rumson.  Another "desert island" scene for me.

Well, here they are, so it's like you didn't miss them.  [snow_wink]

1970: Ep #924 - Angelique tells Julia that she doesn't want
to have anything to do with her, any of the Collinses, or
anyone at Collinwood - however...

1970: Ep #924 - ...Angelique admits she knew the Tate is
actually Quentin's portrait.

MB, sweetheart, you are simply the best!

I do love Mrs. Rumson's day wear.  She clearly is going for an updated, more sleek redaction of the June Cleaver look.  Pale blue always looks well on LP...

In the second scene, Julia looks as if she's thinking, "Are you for real, bitch???"

GREAT stuff!! Thank you so much!

for some reason i've always thought the character seemed more at home in historical costumery(1795,1897,1840). garbed in "present time" clothing ang looks lovely but somehow slightly off. and that's saying nothing about her attire during her stint as a vampire.

lara's just a few years older than nancy and kathryn but seems almost matronly comparatively in terms of clothing and hairstyles.

Lara was born in '37.  (Same year as my Mom... funny to think that!).  I guess 32 was an older age in the late Sixties than it seems now...

Great shots today.  I love Julia in that 1969 episode doing her "If I only had brain routine."  And the Laura series is very haunting and evocative.

From the Leviathan storyline, Julia's wearing one of my favorite scarves today.  Always nice when the rare occasion comes around when they gave Grayson something more elegant to wear for a change.

behind Barnabas' portrait, Willie realizes Barnabas is in the
mausoleum.

Yes, I love the three that Laura appears in:

1967: Ep #145 - Laura becomes unnerved while David
explains how he saw her face emerge from the painting.

1967: Ep #145 - Laura is outraged by Sam's new painting.

1967: Ep #145 - Laura causes Sam to fall asleep with a lit
cigarette.

And here's those captures:

the laura storyline is filled with electrifying confrontations and her visit with sam evans is also a favorite.

no one does a showdown quite like diana millay and by the time the scene is over you just know poor sam is toast.

brilliant!

@mscbryk:  Yes, and that it is marvelous that Millay plays Laura cool as ice in the scene showcased today where Maggie comes to Collinwood to explain about Sam's "accident."

Love the shot of Barnabas telling Julia he's trying to protect her by keeping her out of the loop during the Leviathan debacle, also in today's show.  Great work from Frid today.

Great shots again from today's episode showcasing the 1967 Laura storyline.  I particularly love the shot of Vicki with Frank, and Carolyn with Burke; both shots really encapsulate the mood of this story for me.  And did Alex know how to work a coat, or what?

And another of my alltime favorite moments on DS in the 1971 show, with Grayson Hall in stereo as Julia witnesses the icy condescension with which "Mrs" Julia Collins dismisses the unfortunate Kendrick Young in 1841 Parallel Time.  Truly priceless!

that it is marvelous that Millay plays Laura cool as ice in the scene showcased today where Maggie comes to Collinwood to explain about Sam's "accident."

And (a bit delayed, but) here it is (love Roger's whole reaction to what Maggie has to say):

1967: Ep #146 - After Maggie explains Sam believes Laura
somehow started the fire, Roger vows to stop Sam from
saying such insulting things.

Quote
Love the shot of Barnabas telling Julia he's trying to protect her by keeping her out of the loop during the Leviathan debacle

And here that is:

1970: Ep #930 - For her safety, Barnabas refuses to confide
in Julia about what has been happening to him.

Also, there was some great stuff from Clarice Blackburn/Mrs. Johnson:

1969: Ep #669 - Mrs. Johnson is terrified after Quentin
appears to her...

1969: Ep #669 - Mrs. Johnson becomes hysterical when she
believes Maggie, David and Amy possibly think she imagined
it, and...

969: Ep #669 - ...Mrs. Johnson later insists the children had
something to do with it.

And I also have to say that no one does crazed indignation quite like Marie Wallace:

1970: Ep #930 - Megan becomes incensed by Barnabas'
insistence that Paul cannot be killed.
Love the expression on her face!  [snow_laugh]

I particularly love the shot of Vicki with Frank

1967: Ep #148 - Vicki is taken aback upon learning there's
a suspicion that Laura may have murdered the woman
whose body was discovered in her apartment.

Quote
and Carolyn with Burke

1967: Ep #148 - Carolyn is pissed because she believes
Burke may have only used her and now he's moved on
to using Laura.

Quote
both shots really encapsulate the mood of this story for me.

I always tried my best to do that.

And did Alex know how to work a coat, or what?

Definitely. She could even almost make you forget that a button was missing and the long thread from it was flapping in the breeze.  [b003]  But you didn't think she also rocked the sweater set?!

1971: Ep #1191 - Julia witnesses Parallel Time's Kendrick
and Julia discussing Stella's odd supposed departure from
Collinwood.

I love 1841PT's Julia Collins.  [thumb]  Definitely one of my favorite Grayson Hall roles, period, not just on DS.
