David Selby in New Film: The Social Network
« on: August 07, 2010, 08:07:03 PM »
Our beloved Quentin has a role in the new film The Social Network, a drama about the massive lawsuit that followed the founding of Facebook.

Last night I watched Selby, Patty Duke & David Soul in the made for TV chiller Grave Secrets (1990), a Poltergeist type of story with less special effects and more character development. No classic, but creepy & well done.
It's a $5.99 DVD available at places like Wal Mart & Walgreens. For such a cheapie, the picture & sound were quite good!

I remember that movie - and I still have the VHS I made the night it originally aired. I should watch it again one of these days.

It's quite interesting what made-for-TV movies get released on DVD and what ones don't...

I ache for a digital release of Curse of the Black Widow, a 1977 Dan Curtis TV film with Patty Duke,
and 1974's now legendary Killer Bees, with Gloria Swanson, Kate Jackson & Roger Davis.

Bees director Curtis Harrington has a huge following as does Curtis, so what gives?

One of the nicest aspects of Grave Secrets was Selby's star status, he was a Hollywood leading man from the time he played Streisand's hubby in 1973's Up the Sandbox until the 1990 demise of Falcon Crest--Grave was his first post-Crest role. As far as I know, it was his last role as a star.

These days, Selby's screen roles are small--me no like that!

I saw the official trailer yesterday in the theater. Not the teaser but one that actually has clips of the movie and David is in briefly

Looks like he is playing one of the FB creator's lawyers. I will be seeing it and it actually looks good, even though Ive heard the running time might be close to 3 hours.   [ghost_blink]

If the film follows the version of the script that I've seen, then there will be lots of cuts between deposition scenes (and there are multiple lawsuits going on at once) and action scenes, and Selby's character appears to be the attorney of the Winklevoss brothers who have sued Mark Zuckerberg and Facebook multiple times over intellectual property and contractual issues as well as failure to abide by their settlement.

David Selby sighting on TV

In the new TV adds for the new Jessie Eisenberg movie the Social Network witch is about the launch of Facebook. I think David is playing a Lawyer. David's line in the TV add is "Your best friend is suing you for six million dollars".

Yes, I saw him briefly in a commercial for a movie the other day. I think this might have been it.

Mr. Selby looks good, aging quite gracefully.
My name is Victoria Winters, my journey is just beginning.

A journey that I hope will open the doors of life to me and link my  past with my future.  A journey that will bring me to a strange and dark place.  To the edge of the sea, high atop Widow's Hill, to a place called Collingwood.

for a guy who's turning 70 next year yes he is. though i'm not used to his stark white hair. i'm use to him having some color other than white or  grey in his hair. it'd be nice if his movie career did get a boost cause of this new movie he did. i've seen a few of his movies. & most of the ones i've seen of the past few years are his B films.

there was one he did

Wow - I think it's definitely debatable as to who's the one being condescending in that clip.

It's going to be fascinating to see if there's any sort of backlash against Facebook once this movie comes out. Sure, the story has already been covered in the various print/TV newsmedia and the book - but those are dying media where a sizable portion of Facebook's users are concerned. On the other hand, a movie is quite capable of capturing their attention...
