Are there any songs that were not in DS that, for some unknown reason, remind you of Dark Shadows? I was just listening to a CD that has "Lara's Theme" from Doctor Zhavigo on it and when it came on I couldn't help be think that the song should be from DS. Do any songs have that effect on you that aren't from DS? The CD I was listening to is called Fireside Piano by Newell Oler.

Many They Might Be Giants songs remind me of Dark Shadows, for the oddest reasons. Also, for some inexplicable reason, The Skins by Scissor Sisters. Go figure.

Did a large procession wave their torches as my head fell in the basket,
And was everybody dancing on the casket?

Two Joni Mitchell tunes  bring up DS for me:

Song to a Seagull makes me think of the waves crashing below Widow's Hill.

Court and Spark brings up images of lonely Barnabas, always looking for the love he cannot find.

The 80's synth-pop band Book of Love had a song called "Witchcraft" that has always reminded me of DS. It's a song about casting a spell on an unrequited love. There's even a direct reference in the lyrics: "Angelique takes Barnabas/From Josette/With spiders ten".

Guess I can't really claim that it reminds me of Dark Shadows for some unknown reason.  [ghost_rolleyes]

Yes, it's from the CD Lullaby. There are alot of songs inspired by Dark Shadows. Here are a few that I know about. Some I found on my own and "Penny Dreadful" as well as other fans turned me on to some of them.

There's

Light In The Shadows by own very own Julie Gates if you contact her she'll let you know where you can get a copy.
Didn't Have The Time...................................................................................Dalloways
Barnabas Collins..........................................................................................Lone Ronger
Dark Shadows.............................................................................................The Moon-Rays
Barnabas Collins, Love Bandit.....................................................................Kenya Collins
The End Of Time..........................................................................................The Damned
Dark Shadows Theme..................................................................................Oneiroid Psychosis
Angelique...Majenta Jets
When Panthers Roamed Arkansas................................................................Kate Campbell
Barnabas Collins Has More Skeletons In His Closet Than Vincent Price.........Oval Protrait
and
Maggie Evan's Acid..........................................................................................The Missing Ringfinger

There's a whole CD of music inspired by Dark Shadows, maybe more.

Hmmm - now that you mention it, I can see that with regard to the verses and the chorus - but especially when it comes to the bridge (which is where my sig comes from - but you obviously already knew that  [ghost_wink]) if one goes with the intended connotation because it's a perfect depiction of Barnabas' motivations when it comes to his long line of SYTs, though particularly 1970PT's Roxanne.  [ghost_rolleyes]

Actually, I was just joking about it because of your signature, but it can be interpreted that way.

Darn, I had another one that reminded me of DS, but it's totally left me.  [ghost_azn] Guess I'll be running back here as soon as I do remember it.  [ghost_wub]

Honestly didn't know a thing about them; still don't know much. I just Googled MB's sig to try to find out what it was from (yeah, I do weird stuff like that). That's the only song by them I've heard. Just not my favorite genre, nothing against them, though.

When I was working on DREAMS OF THE DARK, Celine Dion's "My Heart Will Go On" from TITANIC was playing everywhere, all the time. I heard it about a thousand times on my way to and from Lyndhurst, which I visited while I was writing the book. The lyrics struck me as an apt theme for NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS...even though I'm not a real big Celine Dion fan, and I wouldn't really use the song as a theme for NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS.

I just remembered what the song I wanted to mention was. Bleeding Love. Not one of my favorite songs though, and that was a bad pun, I know.

4 Minutes To Save The World by Madonna and Justin Timberlake because the Leviathan plotline concerned all the world and not just the Collins family. [ghost_wink]
