Thanks, Lori, for posting that link.  I did watch the first episode of Moonlight and although it was amusing, I found the casting sketchy, particularly the fellow they cast in the Lacroix role--I have no idea who or what he was supposed to be, but whatever it was, it really wasn't working!

I did think that Sophia Myles (do I have her name right) is fabulous in the thankless role of the ingenue.  And the fellow who had Mick had some potential.  too bad the silly script had him sleeping in a deep freeze.  One wonders what on Earth the vampires did before the invention of refrigeration units?

I can see that you would think that way. It did start out slow, but it is getting better.  But the strike might take it out.

I actually prefer shows to be "slow," particularly "slow" by today's standards.  I've already seen pretty much every plot twist the mind of wo/man could invent, and then some--what makes a drama worth viewing for me is CHARACTER, and a more layered approach that suggests possibilities of interpretation.

I found the character of the lead vampire's mentor jarring in a flat, rather banal way.  The writing was horrendous and the actor obviously did not have a clue what he was supposed to be doing.  He did actually seem as if he was fairly competent craft-wise.  Perhaps if the writing has improved and they have changed directors, they might have been able to make something of the character.

Glad to hear YOU enjoy it!  I'm all about people enjoying themselves.

I must say I am fascinated to learn that there are people out there who regard Angel as the be-all and end-all of vampire stories.  Truly fascinating *raises eyebrow in Spock-like fashion*.

Moonlight has actually improved greatly since the first episodes. There was a huge upheaval with producers and concept between the time the pilot was done and the series was first in production - and it showed. The mentor character, in particular, was adrift in the beginning, and it was obvious they were still deciding what exactly to do with him. However, since then the relationships between all the continuing characters and the ongoing storyline itself have been progressing quite nicely. Things are much more developed and existing on a deeper level. And the changes seem to be working because, while the show has been coming in second in its time period when it comes to households, it is far and away first in the period when it come to the 18-49 demos that advertisers eagerly covet and networks adore.

I hope they do something with Mick's friend, Josef too.  He seems like a wasted character so far.

I also have to laugh at the refrigerator idea.  Vampires are naturally cold [if you can think of vamps as natural] so the idea that they have to sleep in something cold sort of makes sense, sort of, to rejuvenate during sleep.  Before refrigerators, maybe the coffins and crypts were cold enough to rejuvenate them.  I'm just stretching thoughts here, in the moment. 

I have watched Moonlight since it started and it has improved with every episode.  I hope the writers continues to produce new and innovated stories, keeping them fresh and exciting.  Last Friday's episode about a murderous vampire was very scary and well done.

Apparently we're not the only ones who feel this. I just read where TV Guide's critic Matt Roush has said that with each episode "the show has grown exponentially more interesting."

I caught the first episode of MOONLIGHT and figured it would be a goner in two weeks. Then, a couple of weeks ago, a friend of mine convinced me to check it out again, and I'm glad I did. These couple of episodes, at least, were well-done, engaging enough to keep me watching. Hope it has a chance to continue, but I'm afraid it's likely to become a casualty of the strike.

Speaking of Moonlight, has anyone been watching Blood Ties on Lifetime TV? I believe you can watch all the episodes from the start on their website. This vampire is an illegitimate son of Henry VIII, so he's older than the vampire in Moonlight.

Interesting to learn that O'Loughlin is Strine.  And with Sophia Myles being English, Moonlight suddenly seems very cosmopolitan.

I keep thinking I'll try the show again, but then I expect to hear it's off the air permanently because they've run out of episodes.  There seems no end in sight to the writers strike (not that I've really been paying attention).
