I'm sure he would do a fine job as Barnabas, but I just think he's too pretty and too young looking.
If Depp played Victoria Winters, that would open up some very interesting possibilities as to her parentage.

You know, so do I!  He already has ample experience being a pirate drag queen...  ;D

I think he's one of the most talented actors working today, and he's one of my favorites, and I'm sure he would do a fine job as Barnabas, but I just think he's too pretty and too young looking.
I kind of had that impression about Alec Newman, but not having seen the WB Pilot I can't say for sure.  Was his younger look a barrier to suspension of disbelief?

I quite liked Alec Newman in the 04 pilot, but the one thing that I didn't like about him was the way he played the familiar scene where Barnabas calls Josette's name longingly like 4 times--the way he played it made it seems a little too cheesy.

And I could swear that a couple of the articles that I read that were posted in the other Depp movie topic said that Depp was going to star as Barnabas.

Johnny Depp is now 44, which I think is about the same age Jonathan Frid was on DS  :)  Plus, the movie will probably come out a few years from now.  While he's certainly young and pretty in real life, he can look older- see The Ninth Gate for an example.  Sweeney Todd, too, from the few pix that have surfaced so far.  I think he'll be great as Barnabas!  Though I agree- he could also play Victoria with no problem  ;)

He doesn't have to look older, though, especially if they're doing the 1795 storyline.

Depp can look his age, but he can also look years younger than what he actually is. A couple of years won't make much difference in his case, I'd wager.

He's pretty, but he's rather striking, too, and it's about his talent. He has more of it in a strand of his hair than most actors have, period, IMO, and that's what matters most. If he doesn't actually play the role, there will be no words on this earth to describe my feelings of disappointment.

Having seen photos of Depp as a Cuban transvestite in 2000's Before Night Falls, I'm not so sure he'd make for all that great of a woman.  :o  ;D

As much as I'd love to see Mr. Depp as Barnabas, I really have mixed feelings about this remake.

BUT! All doubts aside, let's see who I can imagine in these roles...

I think Hugh Jackman would be great for Quentin. For some reason he reminds me of David Selby. Also either Cillian Murphy or Josh Holloway might be a good choice.
I'm a little stumped on Angelique. Someone somewhere suggested Vanessa Williams. She'd probably be a good choice.
The little girl from Signs (What's her name? I'm drawing a blank.) would be good for Sarah, if she isn't too old by now. If she is, then she could be Amy (if there will be room for Amy in this remake...)

"Willie Loomis," I believe, on another post (and maybe this one as well) suggested Tim Curry for Roger. I like that. I like it a lot.  :)
I'm having trouble thinking of any actress "wholesome" enough for Victoria. The only one I'm coming up with is Anne Hathaway. I think Reese Witherspoon would be a great Carolyn.

This is difficult!

The girl from "Signs" is Abigail Breslin. She's since been in "Little Miss Sunshine", "No Reservations", and other movies. She'd make a great Sarah, but she's such a wonderful actress that I wouldn't dare cast her in a small part. So the Sarah part would have to be very pronounced and involved in the plot.
